back in the mid 80's my brother in law asked me if i had an interest in getting an old car of his going and we'd split the money when sold.it had sat in his garage for years and him living on the bay, that took quite a toll on the car.i knew nothing about bmw's at the time.the 1'st line of business was to locate the rear back glass.it had been broken while the was being painted.the shop gave him a very large discount due to fact they could not find one.
the car if i recall, was a 65 Glas 3000,it had a V-8 with 3 carbs on it.i believe it had the lines of the CS models.he had a stack of paper work on the car and said less than 60 were produced.in all my seaching i've never seen another one since i myself became familair with bmw's.
unable to find anyone at the time that even knew what i was talking about,i gave up trying to find the back glass and found myself a 69 nova SS and forgot about the bmw.he has long gotten rid of the car and at the time estimated it's worth in 85 at 40k if returned to running and complete condition.like i said, iknew nothing about bimmers then and quite frankly i was scared to take on the project and let the opportunity slip.
i'll try a seach online for this model,i've just never seen mention of the Glas models thru my normal searching for info on models i had/have.the post funk just put up about the 3.0 just brought back a memory.

well,i just did a search and there is some info on it.looks like i really missed out on something.i'd never owned an import at that time and trying to find parts for a car back then that no-one even knew what it was,i lost interest.i didn't have a P.C. back then to even do a search.

In the 1965 market it would have been OK, against SM, Mustangs, or Austin Healey.

thanks KC,that's it.one thing i remember about it was the top of the engine was chrome and the rear disc brakes were located inboard at the differential instead of at the wheel.brother in law parked it after the glass was broken at the paint shop.very unique car.he's a doctor down in Tx. and has always had some type of import performance car,a couple of 928's,540,turbo volvo.
the Glas was the car he drove in college.right now he and my nephew are just starting to completely restore a 69 camaro and dropping in an all new aluminum vette engine.the engine was built by both of them to go into a boat, but i guess plans have changed.wish i had the money to burn.

JC,it's funny you say that.one of the contacts my brother in law gave me to call,i said i understand you know about bmw's,he said in an arrogant and very thick accent"I AM MR. BMW".he even proceeded to tell he knew where the car was located in germany before it ended up here.he wasn't much help on the many requests i had for parts though.
