How well do FM modilators work?

If I get a good one, will I notice an appreciable difference in sound quality from the regular radio sound?

I'm trying to find a way to get sound from my computer to the speaker system without running a line to the head unit. Will an FM modulator make me happy or will I be pissed at the quality?

I had an FM modulated changer in one of my previous cars. It was fine but FM does NOT have the dynamic range of CD. Depends on how picky you are about your audio. I ended up replacing it with a CD head unit and noticed the sound quality difference right away.

I never expected it to sound as good as a CD player, but will it sound similar to FM sound?

It will sound similar but direct connect is the way to go IMO
