I'd appreciate some input on how to price my car. I'm not selling it yet, just want a sense of what it will go for.

1998 M3 sedan
black on black
6 disc changer, Harmon Karden
Clifford alarm
Only mods are a K&N drop-in filter and non-OEM clears all round
60,xxx miles
I've replaced the rear shocks and strut mounts, but that's the only repair I've done. It has brand new OEM floor mats.
I don't know the car's history, I bought it from a guy who bought it from Carmax.
Exterior is very good; couple of minor dings, one scratch on a side skirt (noted below). Interior is excellent, leather is in great shape.
Headliner needs replacing, I've been quoted $325. Its not ripped or sagging, but I can tell its loose. Rock chip in windshield that I had filled.

Kelley Blue Book private party value is $18,685

I've been looking for this exact car for a while - problem is I need it to be at a dealer since I need to trade my 97 540iA in on it... The pricing I've seen is about $16.5k to $18.5k depending on options and a cars history -- which I've found out is very important to know. You should really pull the Carfax before you decide to sell. If it's clean you could probably get around $18k...

I purchased a 98 M sedan in September for $18,600. I have seen some for less but this was a one owner car with 47,000 miles, 5 speed, Dinan chip & intake- and my favorite color combo white w/black leather- Excellent Shape (except one small ding in front fender, 1/4" paint chip on rear bumper, and 1/4" scratch on pass rear door). I researched all the main online classified adds (Auto Trader, Yahoo, NADA, Kelly, etc.) to get an idea what they actually sell for. I could have found one for less but this one was exactly what I wanted. Your car looks nice, put it up for sale and see what happens. Good luck with the sale!

I should've taken the time to dry and wax the car but I was feeling lazy after I washed it. Sounds like $18,000 +/- $500 is about right. The guy I bought it from in June was asking $20K, I got it for $19.5K.

Glad I haven't pumped a bunch of $ into mods, you never see that money back again.

your front seats are in remarkable condition!

good luck, when you decide to sell it.
18.- 18.5 sounds absolutely reasonable to me.

18k sounds about right I bought my 97' with 42,0000 miles, all the mods listed, extra set of track wheels, same options as yours in estoril/modena for 19,500 in April 04'.

$18K is good unless you are in need for the money, then you would need to drop it to $17,xxxx ....

What is Montana leather?
For a more detailed explanation, do a search on Montana vs Nappa.

Short version: BMW "ran out" of Nappa leather on late '97/early '98s and substituted the Montana in it's place. If you could find your original window sticker, there was supposed to be a $500 credit or something for the buyers of cars w/o Nappa. The Montana is most easily identifiable by the motorsport stripes being on the head rest in sedans, as opposed to the seat backs.

HTH.
