I'm asking because I never driven one on the highway and this a-hole was driving like an arse and seemed to be pretty fast. I'm estimating he accelerated from 70mph-100mph in a short period of time. At first I thought it was just the normal 3.0 X5 but then I saw the dual tips. This guy also had dealer plates. I feel sorry for someone that buys that as a demo vehicle.

Ya their nice on the highway. My mom has one and we have sold quite a few. 70-100 in a short amount of time is quite an educated estimate :rolleyes . I doubt that just cause he was driving fast that it's beating up the car. When dealers drive cars they usually don't beat the shit out of em. When I drive our cars I drive them hard but not enough to do damage.

As was said "seems fast" depends on what you've driven in the past but as far as the X5 comparing to say FX45, Cayenne S and SRX V8....it's not bad.

PS: this has to be the lowest quarter time I have seen posted for the X5 4.4, 14.9 seconds.

The X5 is a BMW!! 70-100 will not do anything but warm up the X5. I have a 4.4 X5 and was doing all of 140 with no issues kicking a clk320 a$$ trying to catch me. For an SUV it is amazing! I can not imagine the 4.6 or the 4.8's! I say if you have a bimmer DRIVE IT!!! Remember they are made for the autobaugn (sp?) that does not have a speed limit!!!

Actually, the X5 would never had been made at all were it not for Americans' insatiable appetite for SUVs, and the opening of the BMW manufacturing facility in Spartanburg, SC, U.S.A., where they are all built. That said, they ARE built to hold their own on the autobahn so that they can sell a few in Germany, too. :)

You better not be pulling over when the the VA po-po clocks you at 140. They're likely to lynch a nug. I just settled a wreckless in court there...80 in a 45 on my gixxer. I paid out the :booty but another guy there had a 120...he caught 5 weekends in jail! On a lighter note, I'm glad to hear the 4.4i can hit 140! :D

I see that you are a fellow rider. I just began to ride this year! I bought my bike at the end of September so I did not ride much this year! I am from the VI (St. Thomas Virgin Islands). The laws up here are so different! I heard about the jail time for going over 100 here in VA! I also heard a few riders doing the weekend thing too! I am so careful on the bike because you know that it hits 100 without trying like the X5. :D by the way I have a 02' cbr 600 f4i.

I guess I shouldn've been more clear on my descriptions but I wanted to keep it vague for a reason. The responses make me feel better in knowing that I walked away from a X5 4.4 in my commuter car(non BMW) and 2.8L less of displacement. And believe me, the driver of the X5 4.4 was trying... ;)

Thanks, that means a lot coming from an X5 4.4 owner with little ego(a rarity these days). :D

Jail time in VA is for anything over 90, not 100. St. Thomas, eh? I've been there many times, beautiful place. The riding is much better in VA though. I have some friends with F4Is. That's one comfortable sport bike! :buttrock
