View Full Version : AFE Intake Group Buy
diffsonline 12-16-2004, 02:42 PM NEW LOWERED GROUP BUY PRICING
We have chosen to carry the AFE Intake Systems based upon their build quality and the fact that their filters outperform a K&N filter. it really is a nice kit, and all they have working for them is airflow engineers, and are dead set on having the best intakes on the market. Their heatshields are excellent quality, and the most of the newer style intakes have covers.
We are going to be offering MORE THAN $100 off and free shipping (at these new prices contact outside the Continental US for shipping)
5 people required to get things going, and the group buy ends Jan 31st.
Feel free to drop me a PM or email dan@diffsonline.com

John@BPG 12-16-2004, 04:44 PM We had a chance to talk to the owner of AFE and get a close look at all AFE's products at SEMA this year in Las Vegas. The amount of research and design that are put into their systems really puts to shame everything else currently out there. The build quialty is the highest I've seen from any intake offered for a BMW.
KnightRider/AMG 12-16-2004, 06:01 PM carb legal for california owners?
diffsonline 12-16-2004, 06:40 PM A very important question, but YES they are CARB legal. Both the filter and the intake.
GriMpY 12-16-2004, 09:50 PM nothing for an E39 528i? :(
diffsonline 12-17-2004, 09:19 AM nothing for an E39 528i? :(
They said it is currently, "in production" so once it is released, I will certainly let you know and provide an excellent deal on one of those.
FredK 12-17-2004, 09:22 AM Is there any dyno information? Their website shows the data is coming soon for my application (E36), I'm just wondering if you've heard anything in the meantime.
Thanks,
Fred

I had asked the same question, and was told they will be doing it shortly.
www.afefilters.com in case others are looking to cruise their website. I can say this, all they hire is airflow engineers, and their e46m3 intake makes a legit 10whp.
The build quality is unsurpassed as is their filter itself. I will try to get some dyno numbers but can not make any promises.

diffsonline 12-29-2004, 11:43 AM Would it be possible to get a cover for the E36 328?
Currently they do not have the shield for the e36, that I am aware of. I had asked that same question a week ago.

CaptainKirk 12-30-2004, 11:35 AM I purchased one back in Sep. for my 99 M3. The only mods I have are Eisennman race exhaust and the AFE intake and I get 228-230 rwhp compared
to 196-199 rwhp stock. And I did both mods together. These figures are from a G-tech pro and where done the same day, before and after mods.
BostonRog 12-30-2004, 04:46 PM How does this compare to the Conforti CAI (on a 95 E36 non-M car)? I'll be adding the JC chip this spring.

Dan,
Are you still willing to do a E39 540i kit shipped to Hawaii (zip code 96813) at the new $325 price? If you're OK, then I'm in. Thanks.

Yes, still the same deal with us.
How does this compare to the Conforti CAI (on a 95 E36 non-M car)? I'll be adding the JC chip this spring.
I would honestly say the filter rechnology is better, by a lot. The build quality is identical, except the tube that connects the filter to the HFM is less likely to come apart.

-ursa- 01-04-2005, 04:24 PM I am in on this guys and I am local. I will be posting pictures as soon as the intake comes in. :) Everyone get your orders in! This intake is probably the best made intake on the market.

cougar 01-06-2005, 09:49 AM Is the heat shield necessary or what would be the reason that they dont offer it for the 323is 98??
diffsonline 01-06-2005, 02:04 PM Is the heat shield necessary or what would be the reason that they dont offer it for the 323is 98??
The heat shield is not necessary and the shield seals against the hood liner.
The e36 and E39 kits do not come with heat shields. The Euro sized (3.5") e36 kit is in the works and will be a month or 2 before it is released.

Heat shields are the whole black piece. Every kit has it. The COVER are not important if it is a tight sealed fit.

99BmwM3 01-17-2005, 07:09 PM This may sound dumb to ask, but I got a bit confused when there was talk about some not coming with heat shields. So for a E36 M3 does it come with a heat shield or does it not? Also did you say it does have a 3.5'' inlet or not sure? Thanks..

They all come with heat shield, just not covers as there is no need. The intake seals tight against the sound deadening material.
The intake that is currently available will fit e36's with the stock air meter. The 540/euro HFM size is not yet available.
bigbilly 02-28-2005, 01:13 AM I got mine for full price at another vendor when I was first getting started, and before I heard about Bf.c. It took the vendor like two months to get it to me.
The install was pretty simple, the quality of the materials is great, the sound is AWESOME, and the butt-dyno was happy. The heat shield has a rubber strip that seals to the hood liner and so there's no need for a cover (at least on the e36).
Mine fits with the ZKW ellipsoids. Changing bulbs is a bit of a pain, but it works with needle nose pliers...
This is a great price for a great mod.

Flash 3 03-02-2005, 08:29 PM For you CALI E36 owners who are thinking about purchasing this and CARE about CARB cert. this is what the a service rep at AFE replied to when i asked about CARB:
"Thanks for writing in. At this time our E36 kits are not CARB approved. We are working on this.
Thank You
Michael D. Cain
Customer Service Representative
For
Advanced Flow Engineering"
hope this prevents any confusion about this kit being CARB exempt
diffsonline 03-03-2005, 09:34 AM A very important question, but YES they are CARB legal. Both the filter and the intake.
That bothers me that way back when I wrote this, Joseph at AFE had told me they were 100% carb legal.
I apologize for the misinformation.
joshdds 03-03-2005, 03:32 PM Thanks for the head's up Flash

Just a question, eventually I'll probably do the HFM mod but right now I'm just stock. If I install the AFE will I have any problems installing the HFM later... e.g., will there be a part I can buy to fix this? Or will I need almost an entirely new CAI? Thanks!
m3avrck 03-07-2005, 04:25 PM One more question, what's the recommend cleaning procedure for this intake? I know BavAuto has the K&N recharge spray for $14. Would that work? Yearly cleaning?

Currently AFE does not have a kit for the larger HFM.
Cleaning is the same as a K&N I was told. Clean when it's drity. Everyspring isn't a bad idea.
m3avrck 03-07-2005, 04:42 PM Currently AFE does not have a kit for the larger HFM.

diffsonline 03-12-2005, 01:28 PM Any news on the 4.6is fitment?
No word at all yet from super responsive aFe.
I should know this week, and I will not rest until I get an answer.
As far a supersprint group buy, that could easily be arranged...maybe with an extra discount given to those who jumped in on the afe group buy.
who wants what for Supersprint Exhausts?
loosejuice 03-14-2005, 07:51 PM I got a quick question. I'm hesitant on pulling the trigger for this purchase only because of the increase in volume. I'm running a 2004 330i ZHP and i love the sound that's already emitting from the car with the stock kit. I'm extremely wary of adding on the intake because of my experience with my brother's Integra. We put in a CAI and my god the increase of volume at freeway speeds was unbearable on longer distance drives. How much louder is the AFE intake in comparison to the stock box?
diffsonline 03-14-2005, 08:04 PM I got a quick question. I'm hesitant on pulling the trigger for this purchase only because of the increase in volume. The CAI in the e46, would add some volume to the intake noise. It would be similar to the sound of an e36. I can not speak for the sound increase from an Integra. All I know is BMWs
-Dan
I've heard that an intake on a Honda engine is LOUD! compared to a BMW, where it seems to give a nice deep sucking sound.
loosejuice 03-14-2005, 11:20 PM Alright, that sounds pretty good then. I just didn't want the sound to increase so much that during normal cruising speeds on the freeway, you'd go nuts because of the whining from the engine. I noticed that the AFE kit comes with a metal top. Compared to other kits like the ECIS or Conforti, will that help with noise reduction? My ride is also my daily driver so it would be nice to keep the noise down when I go on family trips!

Extra discount for AFE buyers too, that would be incredible and definetly twice as likely to make me splurge and spend the rest of my tax refund on the SS! I'm definetly in (well most likely, let's here a price to doubly confirm and hope there is enough people to bring it down). Cheers! :buttrock :redspot :alright
loosejuice 03-15-2005, 06:26 PM Is this kit the same one that you're selling for the E46 325/330? If so, just a headsup that their kit is priced a bit lower even though not by much. Now just waiting for the next paycheck before pulling the trigger!

PDX M Coupe 03-15-2005, 07:31 PM Why is the kit for the E46 M3 twice as expensive as all of the rest? Do the E46 M3 kits have anything different than any of the other applications?
sdwhitney 03-17-2005, 05:28 PM Any chance you have a fitment for an E34 540i?
If so, I would jump into the SuperSprint exhaust GB as well.

Supersprint doesn't really have enough inventory to make this easy. What I will do is price each exhaust for each customer/model as you guys want it. I know there is one E36M3 system in stock and a couple e46 ones in stock.
Who needs what?

Hey Dan, I've been doing a lot of research on exhausts and right now I'm torn between the SS and Stromung... but leaning more towards the Stromung. Any chance you can get those in stock? :devillook
I'm an E36M3 though... maybe price/and or better SS videos would sway me, hmmm...
Also did those AFE intakes come in and go out already? I've been waiting patiently all week but it's killing me now (c'mon UPS guy!) :alright
Uber330Ci 03-20-2005, 07:29 PM Why is the kit for the E46 M3 twice as expensive as all of the rest? Do the E46 M3 kits have anything different than any of the other applications?
I would like to know this as well... Honestly makes absolutely no sense. :confused

Honestly, I am unsure exactly why it is more money. I do know that this is the only intake that has proven gains on the e46m3. At least that is what I am told. I don't make the pricing :help
Uber330Ci 03-21-2005, 11:10 AM ok if I were to get in on this, which i most likely will, what kind of pricing will there be on the SS?
Matt
m3avrck 03-26-2005, 07:03 PM Just got the intake in the mail last night and installed it today. Car is sounding SICK at WOT!!!! :redspot :buttrock
A tip for E36 installs with ellipsoids, found it easier to put the cruise control unit in AFTER putting the filter in... directions say other way around but the filter didn't quite for for me doing it that way.
Question though, my car didn't have the air temperature sensor... any ideas why this was NOT on my car? What exactly does this do and why have I had no CE lights or anything??? :help
Oh yeah, one more question, Dan, do we need to oil the AFE filter? It seems to me it came preoiled but I know some filters you should oil as well. Thanks!
m3 owns s4 03-27-2005, 03:25 AM wow, highly interestd... m3avrck i have the same car as yours was the installation hard? I sold my cosmos bc it got dirty to quick. the installation on that was kind of painful with horn remount and all. what bout with the afe?

Installation was very easy and straightforward. It was a tight fit with ellipsoids in there but nonetheless still fit... only way to get it to fit was to put the filter in FIRST then put in the cruise control module after and adjust/tighten. Took about 30 min to install.
No idea where my horn is but it wasn't mounted anywhere on that side. Hmm maybe I should check where it is located one day, hmm. :confused
m3 owns s4 03-28-2005, 04:35 PM hey is this the best intake? compare to cosmos, dinan, aa, ???
diffsonline 05-19-2005, 01:29 PM If I was to run this group buy again from now until the end of June, would there be any more interest? Same pricing, but i can add z4, and X5

ExLondoner 05-24-2005, 11:32 AM I might be interested for a 99 M3, how does the sound compared anyone have any clips?
m3avrck 05-24-2005, 11:37 AM I put this intake on my 1997 M3... normal driving barely noticeable, but at WOT, car sounds awesome, definetly worth it, nice deep and throaty.

Oh totally agree, this is nothing like that!
Sean@ECIS 05-24-2005, 05:14 PM I do not believe the BMW intakes are CARB certified. In checking the CARB website, it only shows truck intakes being CARB certified. You may want to check this before you have CA. residents buying them under that belief.
