View Full Version : Coolant "Burping"?

Hi.
Had to replace upper hose, running from top of radiator to manifold, meaning the long "L" shaped unit on the top.
Temp needle bounced back and forth up to 1/2" immediately thereafter for a number of hours. Didn't seem to effect running temp. It settled down as day wore on. Fairly confident there was air in System as I had had to add more coolant maybe 12 to 14 hours after job was finished. Nothing out of the normal here; there was air in the System and it worked itself out.
Question is this: Does this Cooling System need to be "burped" to get ALL the trapped air out? I have been running with Heater turned all the way up, and things seem to have settled down... for the most part. Stil getting occasional "Blips" of Needle, but they are very far apart time-wise and few are occurring at all.
At any rate, I was curious about the trapped air issue.
Now if System does require this, how do you do it?

Thanks.

6er has a sealed system, there should be a bleeder screw on the top of the thermostat housing, with the system all sealed start the car and let the screw out until you've got coolant coming out, quickly pop the screw back in and it should be good. I had to do this about 2-3 times in my M6, and in my 325is, so the 635 should be the same.
