Short track, but interesting. I would love to see that event with that much talent. Not surprising to see the NASCAR boy sucking! :stickoutt

View Full Version : Did anyone see the Race of Champions?? Glenn 328is 12-13-2004, 08:27 PM Short track, but interesting. I would love to see that event with that much talent. Not surprising to see the NASCAR boy sucking! :stickoutt B.Watts 12-13-2004, 08:51 PM Not surprising to see the NASCAR boy sucking! :stickoutt Actually it is. Gordon and Johnson won the event for the U.S. in 2002. Oak 12-13-2004, 09:32 PM Don't be hatin' on drivers from NASCAR. :) NASCAR drivers have done as well or better in other series than other series drivers have done in NASCAR. I got the race on ReplayTV. Hope to watch it later this week. Glenn 328is 12-13-2004, 10:30 PM I was really just 1/2 kidding - I expected Gronholm and Loeb to kick ass. I have no opinion either way towards JJ but their cars are no where like the WRC cars. I would like to see this RoC in an event like a rally course or even like 10 laps of Spa, just to compare their skills..... I did like the event... Preppy 12-13-2004, 11:15 PM Well to be fair, Gordon wasnt driving with Johnson, Gordon pulled out for some personal reason IIRC, and Jamie McMurray (or was it Casey Mears? I get them mixed up) subbed for Gordon. Who won? Any links of the results? santi 12-13-2004, 11:34 PM THE BRAZILIANS GOT JIPPED!!! And so did Heikki Kovalainen!!! :mad hmmm, suddenly the boy who hasn't lost a race all night has his car's battery die. Oh, and that causes the home team to win... :confused j/k, I was sort of upset that speedvision cut out so much of it though. I would have enjoyed a more thorough coverage. kaiservon 12-14-2004, 07:17 PM Tony Kanaan got ripped. He legitimately beat out Loeb in his own Citroen! Red Ribbon Army 12-15-2004, 02:14 AM It was Casey Mears, it was pretty entertaining but i'm sure most people know you can't use that to compare the drivers. EuroBeast 12-15-2004, 07:32 AM THE BRAZILIANS GOT JIPPED!!! I saw it live and I have to say all my respect for Jean Alesi went when he acted like he won fair. The should have had rematch of the last race :mad I'm really proud of my countryman Kovalainen though, he beat M Schumacher and S Loeb and that is a pretty tough feat to pull off in one evening :buttrock Beating Alesi was so clear in the first run that the french KNEW that in a rematch Kovalainen would have kicked his a.. behind. So they decided no rerun. :rolleyes As a sidenote, Heikki will be the next great F1 champion and Schumacher will have something handed to him if he makes the mistake of staying in the series when Heikki comes in.. Maybe 2006.. :buttrock chuckbilodeau 12-15-2004, 03:43 PM It was Casey Mears, it was pretty entertaining but i'm sure most people know you can't use that to compare the drivers. I agree... :) santi 12-15-2004, 03:59 PM it was pretty entertaining but i'm sure most people know you can't use that to compare the drivers. well yeah... Still a lot of fun though. I bet it was one of the most fun races for the drivers. Hell, I have a blast when I go karting with my friends to see who's fastest. Last time I beat my friend who made it to the semi-finals for the Russel Graduate Run-offs. I know he's still a better driver than me, but it's still fun to compete in a different environment. I can only imagine how much fun it would be to be a driver at the ROC (except for Schumi, he didn't really look like he was having fun). :D EuroBeast 12-16-2004, 09:20 AM I agree... :) I disagree. Kovalainen (Champion of champions) had never driven a rally car before and on his first race he beats the champion Loeb who has driven them professionally for years.. Must mean that Kovalainen adapts pretty well to new cars and tracks eh? I'm quite sure Loeb was trying 100% to win before his home crowd and it was his speciality event they competed in (WRC car and asphalt) Cheese302 12-17-2004, 09:53 PM Well its funny, casey mears actually got farther in the race than Jimmy Johnson did. I think johnson gets too much credit, he's fast because he drives for hendrick... GO BUSCH offbeatt17 12-18-2004, 04:32 AM it was still a good race though Speedlimits? 12-24-2004, 04:18 AM i thought it was kind of just a press event. i mean come on, ferraris and WRC cars on that track, what a joke no one could push the cars and really show skills. Biggins 12-29-2004, 03:02 AM I was in Paris at the time and watched on French television (same day as my Universite de Paris final exam), but it reminded me of a Monster truck type spectacle in the US. I don't remember much from the race, but I do know that there was an awesome parade the next day down the Champs-Elysees. Loeb and Schumacher drove their race cars on street!!! They probably reached a top speed of 5 mph. SpecRaceM5 12-29-2004, 09:58 PM I saw this at work and personaly have never seen anything like it. The ferraris and rally cars mainly. Any links to pics of this event. Where was that track. Im assuming your talking about that one in the stadium. Biggins 12-31-2004, 12:32 AM Here is a link to some pics from the event's website: http://www.imp.mc/rocwebsite/index.htm BETO 01-02-2005, 06:54 PM I watched it for three years already, since Gordon and Johnson won, and I've read about it from before, but this year sucked. C'mon, what kind of shity "track" was that? If you touched the rails you got penalized? Inside a soccer stadium? European monster truck jam!! Put them back in a real track, dirt or asphalt, like before. I really enjoyed this ROC series, should have it more often and more coverage. I am sick and tired of watching Autorotica and Cascar on Speed. OT. The brazilians got robbed, and Kovaleinen is an awesome driver, can't wait to see him in F1. Mblaster 01-03-2005, 07:57 PM It would be fun to see something like that here in the US. Can you believe the crowd at the ROC, that place was packed  Stuntman 01-03-2005, 09:04 PM Great drivers, Great cars, awesome track, Thousands of spectators; what more can you ask for? nickmpower 01-03-2005, 10:08 PM those buggies were so tight cgregory 01-03-2005, 10:54 PM Actually it is. Gordon and Johnson won the event for the U.S. in 2002. Actually, Colin Edwards won the event for the U.S. in 2002. :) BimmerBoyZ3 01-04-2005, 12:16 AM Actually, Colin Edwards won the event for the U.S. in 2002. :) Actually, you are both right.....Edwards won the RoC, and Team US won the nations cup. santi 01-04-2005, 02:41 PM what a joke no one could push the cars and really show skills. Well, granted they weren't driving them as hard as possible. But I think it was pretty cool that during practice they were launching the ferrari's off the bridge, which caused them to crack the windshields... the drivers may not have been racing racing... but I think they were having fun with the cars. nickmpower 01-04-2005, 07:23 PM considering they were spinning and hitting the walls, id say they were going all out Glenn 328is 01-04-2005, 10:39 PM It's back on replay on Thursday. Whomever missed it, has a second chance!! cgregory 01-15-2005, 09:16 PM for anyone who missed it, its being replayed again right now chuckbilodeau 01-16-2005, 04:08 PM I disagree. Kovalainen (Champion of champions) had never driven a rally car before and on his first race he beats the champion Loeb who has driven them professionally for years.. Must mean that Kovalainen adapts pretty well to new cars and tracks eh? I'm quite sure Loeb was trying 100% to win before his home crowd and it was his speciality event they competed in (WRC car and asphalt) Driver Abilities are not only about a 1-2 minute lap around a very tight indoor circuit! There is much more involved in declaring somebody a better driver than another overall... The show was still very entertaining though! :buttrock |
