Goodmorning everyone. I have a question. My car is a 2003 745Li, and I would like to know what performance upgrades there are for this car that show a decent improvement in performance, noticeable also, and one that does not require anything comples, i.e. no dismantling this into 20 parts and all that. Something simple. Also, nothing that cnopflicts with warranty. I am just interested, just adding this and that is enough.

Any suggestions on what I can do? Thanx

I was thinking a K&N filter, any comments on that?

air filter will do nothing.

there really isnt anything out there that will do what you want.

check the dinan catalog at your local dealer.

darn, so nothing cheap that will add at least the least noticeable difference? I was hoping there would be something. Are there ECu or chip ugrades for this car or something?

Here's the deal. Intake (including filter) and exhaust practically never do anything, so leave those out. Your other problem is that your car is HEAVY, and has fairly high horsepower. A 17 horsepower gain on an E30 with an M20B25 motor is a 10% increase. Also, it happens to be about a 10% diffrence in the power to weight ratio. That's a lot. With bigger numbers, like in your car, it becomes heavier to shift the power to weight ratio in one direction or another. Adding 5 horsepower to a 500 horsepower motor (just an example) won't make as much diffrence as adding it to a 50 horsepower motor. This is especially true when considering such a heavy car as yours. More drastic changes in horsepower or weight (or both) would have to occur in order for a serious increase to be seen.

Try a supercharger.

check out the roadfly.com forum, some very serious 7'ers there; look for Simeon, he's got the "fastest E38 on the planet".

And spent 10s of thousands of dollars to get there. Later model BMWs are fairly highly tuned right from the factory.

Performance gains beyond a few HP aren't cheap...

I would suggest leaving the K&N alone as it is an oiled filter. I have been informed the oild in the filters can penetrate the MAF and destroy it. With regards to Power goodies I suggest you keep an eye on the ESSTuning.com page. The E60 5 series is already a category there and the 545i & 745i share the same engines. You can usually depend on a good 50-70hp jump with their systems.

Oh well, thankyou for your words. Looks like theres not much I can do for it. BTW, I noticed that this thread was "towed" in the main section, what does that mean?

Towed = moved.

If you started in the Main section, the admins moved/towed your query to the 7-series section, figuring you had a better chance of getting a worthwhile response here...

Just enjoy being a pimp in your car, and leave the fast part to other BMWs. Best advice.

There's lots of modded 745s in LA.

Offhand, I'd go with a heavier front sway bar and a higher ratio rear differential.

Does the 760 use the same rear diff and front sway bar as the 745?

How about the 760 Protection model?

Really, and which "other" BMWs would those be?

I think your perception of 7-series owners is a bit off...Realize that many of us started with other BMWs, probably modded the h*ll out of some/most of them, and then needed more room, hence the 7.

The mod bug never really goes away, FWIW.

And unless you're talking M cars, the E38 and the E65/66 aren't exactly slow to begin with...

And the pimp part...never mind.

True enough - just past the point of pimpin' (this IS a public forum, after all, so I have to say that...)

Naw, not too old - but to the point where yardwork makes me sore the next day! (done for the year, though)

Well said Reed.

When I first investigated a large sedan the 740 was appealing, then I looked at mods available(Dinan, ESS, UUC). There are a lot of mods available compared to other large sedans. SOLD..

The mods are not cheap but nether is the car..

I looked a M3 4drs but where would I put my family or how would I get them out?

:buttrock

Will we get the performance of a smaller, lighter car?? NO

but that does not mean that the 7 is slow either..
:nono
