Have you tried a different key? It could be something wrong with the ews (security system) that is embedded in that particular key. There are coils, 6 of them, and they can go bad. THe engine is just cranking, right?

You could pull a plug an leave the coil connected and check for spark

There could be a spark problem, maybe other than a coil. I wouldn't think more than one coil would die at once. Shouldn't the car try to start with one or two bad coils?

CAS (Crank angle sensor)?

If the BMW m50 employs sequential injection and the injectors are firing (are you sure) = NOID light, a bad crank sensor cannot be the problem. If it is nonsequential injection, ten the injectors will fire off of the crank, and the cam sensor could be bad. However, most engine controllers employ a failure mode wherein if the cam sensor goes bad, they will try a different "#1" cylinder every time until the engine can start.

I would check power to the coils, it doesnt matter which wire, both sides will appear hot if the computer is not currently grounding a coil.

If there is power tot he coils and iinjectors, use a noid light to ensure injectors are firing. I finjectors are firing for sure, then you have isolated the issue.

PS. Theft deterretn will not allow injectors to fire either. It shuts down PCM operation. INjectors firing w/o running the vehcicle can cause engine damage
