okay so dasmafia tried to steal my idea but i am rightfully claiming it back as mine.
this summer, jersey shore, lots of fun.
since no one ever has the same free time during the summer we're going to try planning this now.
if you have any interest of showing up at all, and how could you not?, let us know when's good for you and when isn't. we'll try to plan this so the most people are there.
any ideas for where we're going to find the best (or any) empty parking lot near a boardwalk (There's going to be out of towner's they have to get the real feel of it all) might be helpful, too. if all else fails, i know a street we can all park on in point pleasant.
thankie!

Blondechick,
Please be a good sales person, and post pics of yourself. You may find that to be an effective means of luring more Bimmerheads than you can handle in one gathering!

Sounds like fun...

maybe we should ressurect the "softball-halves" thread to spice things up? (or did that thread die in the crash?)

I know from AC south its pretty choked up in the summer. Any specific part of NJ shore? Is central part less crowded?? How much will my beach pass cost???(forget that I don't want the 3 hour drive home with sand in my butt).

blondechick
04-17-2002, 03:25 PM
haha. okay greg, maybe. i'll think about it. hmm does this mean i should try to figure out how to fit a baseball bat in my beach bag?

hmm i think the softball halves thread is happy dead.

on a more relevant note:

bad weekends for me:

July 4th (don't really want to fly that weekend anyway)
July 11-12-ish (going racing!)

i was thinking point pleaseant area, just because it still has a boardwalk and is slightly quieter than places like ac and seaside. if we go on a weekday (is that possible for anyone??) we should definatly have places to park, and the passes will be $5 (i think). weekends, there'll be more people, and it's $6, i think. that lets you use the bathrooms, too, where i'm sure you can get the sand out of your butt.

okay das, thanks.

Point pleasant is still pretty busy in the summer.. but then again every broadwalk is. Which means u will not find an open parking lot not filled in the summer.

the only place in the shore where u can find open parking lots are the shores where theres no broadwalk.

And greg.. I can help out with that picture.. :D

blondechick
04-17-2002, 03:40 PM
took you long enough to respond willy.
i know the parking lot thing is damn near impossible. but i do know this street (that i always park on in pp) that's normally decently empyt. besdies one of the people on the street has a yellow ferrari.
willy! no! shit not the ones from the meet! ::sigh::

04-17-2002, 03:44 PM
Belmar's another choice, though the boardwalk doesn't really compare to the one in PP in terms of having stuff to do. Same thing with Bradley Beach. Both Belmar and Bradley have very nice beaches, with Bradly having fewer people.

There's a nice beach and brick-paved promenade in Long Branch as well.

blondechick
04-17-2002, 03:48 PM
don't do it willy! you've seen the face i make when i'm pissed off and it ain't pretty!

yea i know. belmar and bradley are options, too. i just wanted to do it where there was an acutal boardwalk. anyone can go to a normal beach, i wanted one that was slightly more unique. hmmm. i might go down sometime soon and see if it's possible to rent out a lot.

Stylin
04-17-2002, 03:48 PM
Oh yeah.. the pics from the meet.. :D But I wont post it if ur unhappy.

The shore idea is cool.. but going to be hard to pull off since its so packed and hard to get to off the highways.

Im also not a big fan of parking my car in the streets either. I know im difficult but there are rules which keep my car the shape its in today. :)

Stylin
04-17-2002, 03:49 PM
Belmar is a much better idea of this sort of meet than Point pleasant. its less packed and even then a parking lot is not going to be easy to find. The NJ shore gets crazy packed in the summer as u can imagine.

blondechick
04-17-2002, 03:51 PM
oh come on willy, don't be such a baby. if we do pp nothing will happen and you know it. becky's safer on that street than she is in my driveway.

I goofed. Actually, it's the first and third weekends of July that I'm out. Sorry for the mixup. But, I don't think July will be the month anyway. How much does it cost to rent a lot? I'll chip in for that. Like Willy, I am damn difficult when it comes to parking. No curbs checks, no fender benders, and no dings allowed! :)

Sorry.. not trying to destroy ur deams.. but just speaking the truth. Ive had times where I had problems parking my bike when we rode down to PP in the summer. Wouldnt u hate it if everyone got there and it was a mess..??

Weekday is easier but most people here work during the week I believe. But Im off Thur-Sat.

Cheers to blondechick for taking the lead on this matter.

the problem is Phill.. they dont let u rent out a lot.. the parking lots down the shore..especially near the beach is a pay per spot lot. Noway in hell they'll let u rent out the lot for the day. And everything else is public or private street parking. parking is a HUGE problems down the shore.. we used to drive around for 45mins-1hr trying to 1 spot to park day and night. Belmar and PP. Seaside.. forget it, Im not going to Sleeside.

im sure if u offer them enough money.. but where are we going to get "enough" money..?? Besides, it may even be illegal for them to hold spaces like that right next to the shore. Its public pay parking.

If its a park u want.. NJ is FULL of parks. Just where u want it?? last year or 2 years ago UUC had a meet in Johnson Park near Rutgers university. Audi and BMWs.. over 100 cars showed.. they had a permit and a BBQ. A park will be fun too.. Johnson park has a river through it. Central NJ location. Some very nice roads in the park but I dont think we should fly around there.. :D

4th of July Im actually off this year Greg.. whats the story?

Oh and we may not even need a permit if this doesnt get too big to just have a meet at a park. But if u want to BBQ u need to reserve a spot i think.

The park up by Rutgers is pretty nice, though I never had much time to spend there when I went to Rutgers. :(

The E30M3 SIG has an annual gathering, which is organized by a friend of mine, at Thompson Park in Holmdel (right near exit 114 on the GSP.) We could probably rent out one of the fields - they even let them park on the grass (after much convincing that we would be *extremely* careful not to damage the field.) I think for something of this size that we'd probably want to make a reservation. The park has a lake, hiking/biking trails, and large fields. If we wanted to head to the beach or go on a drive later, it's not terribly far from Point Pleasant.

Hmm... Thinking about it again, it would be about 25 miles from PP - hope this isn't too far for everyone. If we do this on a weekend, especially after Memorial Day, we could still hang out on the boardwalk since it would be open pretty late.

Do we have an idea of how big our little meeting might be?

rukman
04-18-2002, 07:49 PM
thanks for telling me!!!

but blondechick let me in on the nj fun...

i'm up for anyplace...anytime.... :)

if we are still considering the shore area...pt pleasant will probably be too busy and too packed with people and the same goes for belmar...i spent most of my summers down in those two towns and i know that trying to park around there is hell!...

i used to go over to manasquan or spring lake when i wanted to just chill on the beach or put the sea kayak in the water...spring lake has a boardwalk but none of the fun and games kind of stuff..just a boardwalk for walking....but with enough people we'll be making our own kind of fun...volleyball anyone???

another idea i just had.....not a down the shore kind of thing...but...we could all meet up at liberty state park....nice view...plenty of parking...and those of us that wanna keep partying can hop over to the city....

blondechick
04-18-2002, 08:03 PM
you think i would let you get away with not being there? no. any coupe or roadster in jersey must come. no excuses.
liberty state park is actually a really good idea, too. hmm desicions decisions.

rukman
04-18-2002, 08:42 PM
my liberty state park idea is growing on me more and more...

1) easy to get too
2) plenty of space (i'll hop over there this saturday to see what it gets like during the day in terms of parking and such)..i'll take some pics of the area to and post them...
3) great views of the city
4) great pic taking spot of our cars and us with the nyc skyline in the background
5) for those who want to really party...we can go to the city or hoboken

rukman
04-18-2002, 08:45 PM
Weehawken....

the parking lot at lincoln harbor in weehawken...plenty of space for us to park....great view of the city just like liberty state park...and we can all get food afterwards at Houlihan's or if i have my way... a big juicy steak at Ruth's Chris steak house!!!

blondechick
04-18-2002, 09:01 PM
you're awesome. i'm thinking we're going to need to have a poll to see what everyone wants, though. you're ideas are great, though. thank you!!!!!!
hmm i'm going for houlihan's if we do weehawken, ruth's chris's salad isn't so great.

rukman
04-18-2002, 09:04 PM
houlihan's would be easier....they'd be better able to handle a larger group...

even if we did liberty state park...which has my #1 vote so far....we still could do houlihan's afterwards...they have an outside bar area too....

this is the parking lot in front of the visitors center that has a playground behind it...pretty decent amount of parking..i would guess it could hold 100 cars..maybe a little more...this is seperate from another parking lot down by the water (aka liberty marina)...but i wasn't able to drive down there since there was some boat show going on and police were directing people into the parking lot adjacent to the Central Railroad of New Jersey Terminal (this building is not a railway terminal anymore but has been turned into a historic center). i think the parking lot there charges a fee..not 100% sure...

if i could i'd rather be down closer to the water...cooler view of the city too...but this parking lot might serve our purposes well..plus theres plenty of land around it to picnic out...

we need to get an estimate of how many people might attend this little get together of ours to make sure the place we pick has enough capacity...
