IslandS62 11-28-2004, 03:09 AM I need to do subframe bushings and bleed brakes. Let me know...my garage is always open.
The Beastmaster 11-28-2004, 03:18 AM Whenever we do a DIY, I have lots of water to bring over!
808Cardinal87 11-28-2004, 04:24 PM I still need to change my O2 sensor. My garage is open also.

There has been one request today after Aloha 500 for an oil change and replacement of a window regulator on an E36.
Any other requests?
ZZZING @ Halawa Hts.
He wants to do an oil fluid change eng, diff, and tranny. Change some belts and possible subframe bushing?
I'm willing to go wherever anyone wants to, I don't have anything to do, unless someone has a spare R32 motor or S2000 motor laying around and wants to get rid of it :D
EDIT by The Beastmaster: I didn't forget Andy! See above. ^ ;)
ZZZING 11-29-2004, 12:42 AM I want to run through the Inspection II checklist, which includes tranny and diff fluid, also fuel filter and I want to go with stainless steel brake lines (and bleed brakes). Sub frame bushings would be nice but might be too time consuming. I'll have someone else do the coolant flush, too much hassle to dispose of the old stuff.

Liar, liar, pants on fire!
Stop using your Mod power! :cool
The Beastmaster 11-29-2004, 02:53 AM Our DIY requests should be able to be done in 1 day as long as the weather holds out and we have multiple car jacks and jackstands.
ZZZing's car will take the longest and will require 4 jackstands. Tim and Pat's cars will require at least 2 jackstands and can be done quite quickly.
If we have a relatively flat driveway, we can work on 2 cars at once.
Don't forget, I have the leftover water and juice from A500 to provide liquid refreshment!
thrlls 12-02-2004, 03:57 AM Well here's my schedule for December.
I work for the next 3 Saturdays, then my family & I leave for Keystone, Colorado on the 25th for a 1 week vacation. There is Autox on Sunday the 5th, which leaves me open on the 12th, 19th, and 24th.
The Beastmaster 12-02-2004, 04:26 AM I can do Sundays and it looks like 95Dinan3 has agreed to host the next DIY as he needs to change his O2 sensor. And nobody likes to work on a hot exhaust!
I'm doing a DIY right now as I'm finishing up on refinishing Barney's old wheels! Those scratched up spokes are now gunmetal and I think it'll be Elmo's new shoes tomorrow!

IslandS62 12-02-2004, 11:21 PM Just say when.
Also if you guys want the dent guy to show up (he actually might!) he says he will if we have at least 3-4 jobs for him.
Gene V 12-02-2004, 11:28 PM Just say when.
Also if you guys want the dent guy to show up (he actually might!) he says he will if we have at least 3-4 jobs for him.
If it's a weekend after the 11th-12th and the dent guy will be there, then count me in...I've got more than my share of dents, including a nasty one from a shopping cart just today... :(
ZZZING 12-02-2004, 11:51 PM Just say when.
I'm still gathering parts, but I should be ready for the 12th or 19th
The Beastmaster 12-03-2004, 12:13 AM John - What time do you think the dent guy will be there? I have a few dents in Barney and there is one on the C pillar, but I don't know if he can get that one out. Do you think he can get the big dent out of Elmo's door? I might bring the 'vert if he only has time for a few dents.
thrlls 12-03-2004, 02:00 AM I got a few pressure dings to be fixed if he needs more people.
BUT!
1. Where will the DIY be, Pat's?
2. What day, 12th?
3. How many fixes & what kind?
4. How much time will we have?
5. What time do we start? The more projects, the earlier we should start.
6. Pat, how many cars can we comfortably work on in your garage/driveway?
We should come to a consensus with the above.
ZZZING 12-03-2004, 02:13 AM My projects are:
Sub Frame bushings
Stainless steel brake lines
Inspection II including trans and diff refills, engine belt replacements and fuel filter replacement
could take a bit of time...
IslandS62 12-03-2004, 03:06 AM The dent guy doesn't seem to me to be a early morning guy. I'll just be happy if he shows. I have seen him take out some dents that have just AMAZED me, but I can't say for sure what he can and can't remove. In fairness to him, he'll probably want to do the easiest jobs first to maximze his # of jobs. Set a date and I'll talk to him about it.
I need to do subframe bushings, and a brake bleed, but I can always do the brakes on my own if there is too much to do. I also have a water pump and thermo housing, but since we've not done this job yet, maybe I'll just take it to BME.
IslandS62 12-05-2004, 05:04 PM The Marathon might prevent me (and anyone else from Leeward side) from making it out to Hawaii Kai on the 12th. Going through H3 and Waimanalo is a long way to come.
Stupid masocist runners! Get outta my way! :mad *HONK* *HONK*

Yeah I forgot about the marathon. But I still vote for the 12th. I don't mind driving over the hill and around the back way. I have the parts I need.
thrlls 12-05-2004, 11:58 PM I'm okay for the 12th, Pat are we having it at your place?
If so, is the 12th good?
JP, you're too spoiled :D That is not a far drive.....absorb the scenery, open your SUN roof and take in some clean fresh air.
Or, you guys can have it on some other day, and I'll loan you the tool.
Remember, it doesn't have to be on the 12th or 19th. It's just that I'm only available on those days, and Beastmaster & ZZZING knows just as much as I do when it comes to the subframe bushings.
ZZZING 12-06-2004, 12:51 AM Beastmaster & ZZZING knows just as much as I do when it comes to the subframe bushings.
I'm not so sure about that, we would very much like to have your expertise :help
IslandS62 12-06-2004, 03:03 AM ...my sunroof...woohoo..it opens that big inch and a quarter :D
If you guys are doing my subframe I'll come ;)
thrlls 12-06-2004, 11:47 AM ...my sunroof...woohoo..it opens that big inch and a quarter :D
If you guys are doing my subframe I'll come ;)
Sure, we'll guide you all the way :D
DesmoBob 12-06-2004, 06:10 PM i may be in need of the services of the dent guy :embarrasm
any word of confirmation of date & time?
IslandS62 12-06-2004, 06:32 PM Making this guy travel from Salt Lake to a residence in Hawaii Kai on Marathon Day, in the morning...well I wouldn't take odds on him showing, but I'll try to arrange it. If we are a GO for the 12th, I need an address to send him...Pat?

The Beastmaster 12-07-2004, 01:34 AM Sorry guys. I can be there to lend moral support but not much else. I just came home from the hospital and had some emergency surgery so I can't do anything strenuous or lift anything heavy! I spent the whole weekend there from late Friday night until just a few hours ago and I'm tired from all those drugs they gave me. Did you know that I can only get 6 doses of morphine an hour? I swear it was ten before!
However, I can be at Pat's to lend a helping hand.
IslandS62 12-07-2004, 01:38 AM Sorry to hear about the slicing and dicing. Hope your feeling better!
You are coming to tommorrow's BMWCCH meeting though...right? ;)
thrlls 12-07-2004, 01:43 AM WHOA!
I hope what ever surgery you had is a success, and not serious to be chronic!
You should just rest up and heal. I wouldn't want you to aggravate anything, and have to go back for more surgery. Just have your phone close by so we can call you every now and then.....just to bug you...we wouldn't want you to get rusty with your wise cracks! :D
Take care, and let me know if there is anything I can do or get, as I only live in the next valley.
The Beastmaster 12-07-2004, 01:51 AM Slicing and Dicing! OUCH! I still feel the cuts!
As for tools needed at Pats, he pretty much needs everything. Pat, post up and we can bring them over! We got everything from compressors and air tools to jacks and jackstands.

Sounds serious, hope you're okay...
ZZZING 12-07-2004, 02:51 AM I hope you are OK Beastmaster, we will miss your geometric calculations
The Beastmaster 12-07-2004, 03:03 AM I got LOTS of Percocet and Toradol so I'm okay for now. :stickoutt :D It just fricking hurts cause I got a stent in that goes from my kidney to you know where! The doc said I have to keep it in for 10 to 14 days! :mad :help
808Cardinal87 12-07-2004, 03:51 AM I've just got basic hand tools. Haven't bought jacks or stands yet. So bring over whatever you think we'll need.
Astroboy 12-07-2004, 05:09 AM to make things whole. Let me know if you need me to truck things over to Pat's. I now know where the dragon's lair is.... Also let me know if you need me to drive Barney or Elmo around while you are resting and recouperating! :redspot You know, just to keep the oil fresh in the cylinders and all... :devillook
Take care,
Astro

hope you get better beastie
but with all the drugs it looks like you have a head start

Result of a botched "extreme makeover?"... :D
thrlls 12-07-2004, 07:30 PM If we are a GO for the 12th, I need an address to send him...Pat?
I'll need an addy also!
All I know is that you live on the other side of the hill!
808Cardinal87 12-08-2004, 03:53 AM I'll need an addy also!
All I know is that you live on the other side of the hill!I thought I would keep it a secret and if you found it you would win a prize! :stickoutt
J/K....Whoever is coming shoot me a PM and I will give you the address.
thrlls 12-08-2004, 11:51 AM I thought I would keep it a secret and if you found it you would win a prize! :stickoutt
Okay, since I didn't get an addy, I'll just look for your place. If I'm not there start without me.....I should find your place by the 14th or 15th :D

J/K PM sent! :stickoutt
IslandS62 12-08-2004, 03:54 PM ZZZING and I will be caravaning it over H3 on Sunday AM. If anyone from leeward areas wants to join our merry band of two, you are welcome. That way we won't be alone when we get lost. :)
DesmoBob 12-09-2004, 06:42 PM :/
it looks like i have to flake out on this one. i have been sick since monday, and i thought i'd be better by now.
thrlls 12-09-2004, 07:41 PM :bawl Geez don't get all crybaby on us
Bla, bla, bla...just be ready when I come knocking at your door at 5:00 AM. And don't ask your wife to answer the door.
I'm leaving early so I don't get caught in the traffic..... :D
What time do you want everyone to come anyway?
I think the marathon should be over by 10 or so.
we won't be alone when we get lost. :)
JP, it's like coming to my house. After you take the right at the traffic light by Sandy's, you take left at the 3 way stop. Go up the hill, and take a right at the bottom light. Head towards mauka and take the street that Pat mentioned in his PM.
Remember, this is not Race 2000, so don't go running over people!
The Beastmaster 12-09-2004, 10:35 PM Geez, I never got a PM of Pat's address. :( But I can find it by checking tax records. :stickoutt
Uhh, and it's Death Race 2000! I was really good at that game! Lots of crosses popped up for me.

Yeah, thanks for the correction!
You better leave early for Pat's place, as the race will be coming down H/kai drive and circling up towards Costco. H/kai dr will have contra flow. Kawaihae will also be used to direct traffic to H/kai dr from Kalanianaole. Check out www.kgmb9.com for the course and road closures.
The Beastmaster 12-09-2004, 11:37 PM I'll probably drop off the jack, jack stands and some hand tools on Saturday.
Pat - Get some PB Blaster and soak your old 02 sensor the night before so it'll come off easily.
IslandS62 12-09-2004, 11:58 PM Dent Removal guy is confirmed for Sunday. If you are in the HK area and need your car worked on, Sunday is the day!
Astroboy 12-10-2004, 01:43 AM actually one more question - does he take cash only or check & charge too? Thanks!
Astro
thrlls 12-10-2004, 02:41 AM Dent Removal guy is confirmed
I've heard that before.....I hope he makes it this time!
808Cardinal87 12-10-2004, 02:50 AM Bla, bla, bla...just be ready when I come knocking at your door at 5:00 AM. And don't ask your wife to answer the door.
I'm leaving early so I don't get caught in the traffic..... :D You can stand there and knock all you want, the wife will not get out of bed.

I think the marathon should be over by 10 or so. what, 8:30 r so?
808Cardinal87 12-10-2004, 02:51 AM Geez, I never got a PM of Pat's address. :( But I can find it by checking tax records. :stickoutt
Go ahead, but just remember what I have access to now :evil2
The Beastmaster 12-10-2004, 02:57 AM I know you got access to all the legal docs. :mad Actually, I thought about asking my bro to see if we can use the Portlock property for a DIY. We have a Porte Cochere that can park 6 cars under and about 18 cars in the driveway. Of course, utilities are minimal since it was a Kawamoto property.
IslandS62 12-10-2004, 03:17 AM actually one more question - does he take cash only or check & charge too? Thanks!
Astro
Cash or Check. You will need to negotiate with him on rates, but for the most part I have seen him charge members about $125 and he'll take every ding off the car (within reason) or $50 if you have a few here or there.
He charges dealers $50 per panel and market rate seems to be about $75 a panel if you go to Dent Doctors (who I've been to and did a terrible job and charged me $75 for a single dent.) Mike is a challenge sometimes but I have seen him do metal miracles, and frankly no one touches my car but him.
808Cardinal87 12-10-2004, 01:38 PM Of course, utilities are minimal since it was a Kawamoto property. :lol I thought it was just dumb mainland haole's that bought Kawamoto places. :D
The Beastmaster 12-11-2004, 02:19 AM :lol I thought it was just dumb mainland haole's that bought Kawamoto places. :D
Nah, dumb mainland asians with LPs do that too! :biglaughb
As for the DIY, Owen said he'll be over @ 1pm and suggested an impact wrench since he heard we were planning on subframe bushings.
If you guys want one, let me know and I'll load up the compressor and air tools as well, but only if you guys are gonna use it.
Pat - I'll call you tomorrow to set up a time to drop off tools.
808Cardinal87 12-11-2004, 03:23 AM Pat - I'll call you tomorrow to set up a time to drop off tools.I'll be in and out, so we will try to set up a time.
topspin 12-11-2004, 07:42 PM What do you suggest as far as heading out to your place with the marathon going and all?
I've been in Seattle, watching the Seahawks lose, but now that I'm back I could use some dent removal on the M5. What time is everything going down?
IslandS62 12-11-2004, 09:10 PM ZZZING and I are heading up at 8am, and I am sure thrlls will beat us there.
The dent guy has promised to be there (talked to him last nite), and I just left the address on his machine, but you might want to call one of us before you come, just to confirm he arrived.
IslandS62 12-12-2004, 11:44 PM Sorry I was late this AM ZZZING, but at least we got everything done on your car! :D
I know we're all tired, but if you guys are willing to go again next Sunday to do my car, I buy the lunch. If not, well it can wait til' after Christmas. My laundry list is belts, water pump and thermo. housing, and of course subframe bushings...
BTW the dent guy flaked again, but it wasn't a big deal, because so did allt he customers! (Except Beastmaster). I think I am going to stop trying to arrange this for the club...honestly its getting embarassing when no one shows :mad
It was nice to meet you Topspin. Next time we are going to make you get dirty though. :stickoutt Damn how do you manage to get an M3 in high school! What's with all the high school kids with bimmers lately? When I was in high school I had to drive a LeBaron Station Wagon (yes it had wood on side!)
http://www.chez.com/yvincent/photo/chrysler_imperial/78lebaron.jpg
when you drive this, you know your GF loves you for YOU. Definitely not for the car!
topspin 12-13-2004, 12:07 AM Yeah, next time ill be more useful, and I'll have something to do with my car. Ive had it for a year and a half or so, all that I have done is gotten the oil and the belts changed.
What do you think I need to do?
The Beastmaster 12-13-2004, 12:12 AM Yeah, next time ill be more useful, and I'll have something to do with my car. Ive had it for a year and a half or so, all that I have done is gotten the oil and the belts changed.
What do you think I need to do?
Can't really really tell without a test drive. I'm sure Owen will have time to do a proper test drive next time. ;)
ZZZING 12-13-2004, 12:15 AM Thanks to 95Dinan3 for hosting and expert help, to IslandS52 for expert help, and letting me get everything done, to Beastmaster for the tools and moral support and Thrlls for unbelievable help on the subframes and everything else :redspot Also to Owen and Dean for their expertise and help.
We got the trans and diff fluid changed out to redline, changed both the engine belts (at 50,000 miles my main belt was very cracked and nasty looking), put in the stainless steel brake lines and flushed and bled the brake system, changed the fuel and air filters, and put in the Ireland subframe bushings :redspot
Could not have been done without everyone's help, thanks again
IslandS62 12-13-2004, 12:16 AM well, it's a 95, so if you dont' have any records of service you will end up with quite a list...
tranny and diff fluids, sparkplugs, coolant, maybe water pump, brake fluid, power steering fluid, brake pads/rotors maybe, then check wear items like wheel bearings and suspension bushings etc..next time we have a track event, try and come to the tech session for a free inspection, however if you have the $$$ I would advise not to wait too long. Nothing is harder on an M car than delayed maintenance, and I speak from experience. I was a poor college kid once, trying to keep up with E30 M3 bills.
topspin 12-13-2004, 12:25 AM well, it's a 95, so if you dont' have any records of service you will end up with quite a list...

Are there any track events comming up soon? I know I just missed one. Ill see about the service records.
The Beastmaster 12-13-2004, 01:15 AM It looks the brakes were worked on at one time or another as the master and booster look relatively new. The car also has slotted rotors, but not sure what kind of pads are on the car.
I do know on startup the car sounded like it had some noisy lifters. What's the mileage on the car?
It looks like the car has all the right stuff on it as there are Breytons and S0-3s on it along with the slotted rotors. It just needs some cleaning up!
Also, even if the waterpump was replaced, it may have been replaced by another plastic impeller one if serviced by the dealer. :mad
topspin 12-13-2004, 02:51 AM The car has only 40k on the clock. The rotors and pads are all new, they were replaced before I got the car, about 2 years ago. They are brembo rotors, and not sure about the pads.
Not sure about the brake booster either.
IslandS62 12-13-2004, 04:36 AM No problem ZZZING. I hope everything stayed screwed together and no parts dropped off on the way home :)
topspin: Awesome low mileage. Definitely have everything checked out though. Sometimes age is harder on components and fluids, than is mileage. Sorry no track events are on the schedule yet. I think the earliest you can probably expect one is at least 6 mos. away. However if we do end up doing a "street survival" school I would definitely encourage you to sign up for it.
Astroboy 12-13-2004, 03:22 PM Child-sitting requirements prevented me from attending, although the thought did cross my mind to pack her up and bring her down with me... Looks like you guys had a wealth of expertise and experience! You even had Dean show up! Now that is awesome!
JP,
Sorry about the confusion over my inquiry about the cost of the dent removal guy. After determining the cost and severity of the dent, I decided that I can live with the scratch/dent for the time being. Unfortunately, I am on the other end of the socio-economic spectrum until my wife decides to go back to work. Maybe at that time I can reward myself with a ///M??? :alright (yeah right :( ) .
Well, I'll try to make it next time and take some pics! Keep me posted!
Astroboy
BTW the dent guy flaked again, but it wasn't a big deal, because so did allt he customers! (Except Beastmaster). I think I am going to stop trying to arrange this for the club...honestly its getting embarassing when no one shows :mad
IslandS62 12-13-2004, 04:52 PM hey Astro, I didn't mean to point fingers at anyone per say...but the dent removal thing just has not worked out.
It doesn't look like my folks are going to get that M3/4 you found. :( I think they are leaning towards an RX300. (bleah) Maybe that M would be a good replacement for your 5!
Astroboy 12-13-2004, 05:12 PM J/K. I had a bad experience with an auto e34 that I best not duplicate. The auto trans went on me and boy it sure was costly. :eyecrazy
A few months back, my M.D. neighbor said that he was thinking about selling his Acura CL. He was interested in their newer models. It is RED, two door, black interior, auto, probably relatively low mileage, maybe about 4-5 yrs old? I can see if he is serious aboout selling it. Let me know if that may be the category that your parents are interested in. He's the type that would probably just trade it in rather than sell it in the paper to try and get a better price...
Astro
It doesn't look like my folks are going to get that M3/4 you found. :( I think they are leaning towards an RX300. (bleah) Maybe that M would be a good replacement for your 5!
808Cardinal87 12-13-2004, 05:51 PM Thanks to everyone for coming to the DIY and compensating for my lack of preparedness :stickoutt
thrlls 12-13-2004, 06:13 PM All I can say, is it was fun and let's do it again!
I'm good for the 19th, but we should be sure that we have all the right tools, as Dean does not live down the road from JP.
Mahalo for hosting Pat, you got a nice place and good neighbors too!
Oh oh! I can see it coming!
ZZZING 12-13-2004, 11:22 PM I know we're all tired, but if you guys are willing to go again next Sunday to do my car, I buy the lunch. If not, well it can wait til' after Christmas. My laundry list is belts, water pump and thermo. housing, and of course subframe bushings...
Let me know if you are going to do it again, I can help out some :help
808Cardinal87 12-14-2004, 12:08 AM Mahalo for hosting Pat, you got a nice place and good neighbors too!
:nono You dirty old man.
I should get some chairs out front. :cool
The Beastmaster 12-14-2004, 12:13 AM If we're back at Pat's and I'm up and about, I'm going to be neighborly and try and fix whatever is hanging from the bumper of that Toyota Corolla.
thrlls 12-14-2004, 01:25 AM Like I said, I could see it coming!
Just for your info, I was talking about Pat's neighbor that offered to come over and work on his father-inlaw's boat engine. You see, his neighbor is only 1 of 2 certified Mercury Engine Technicians in the State.
Now, for his other neighbor that you guys were going ga ga for.....go see a good movie where they'er older!
You guys are too easy to set up :stickoutt
The Beastmaster 12-14-2004, 02:26 AM Like I said, I could see it coming!

Ga ga? I'm just saying kids should take better care of their cars. That Toyota had some kind of electrical harness hanging from its bumper and the owner didn't seem to care. I was gonna see what was hanging and maybe fix the thing up with some zip ties. I guess surfing was more important to kids than proper vehicle maintenance. :mad
I didn't have that nice a car when I was driving. I had a lime green 1970 Plymouth Satellite with a 318. That was a tank and sucked gas like one, too. Fortunately, my brother took that from me to use as his daily driver and I got a Mustang. :redspot That led to my first Driver's School with SCCA and I was hooked! I graduated from a Driver's School of a different kind the same day I graduated from high school.
thrlls 12-14-2004, 02:34 AM Well, 21 years later, and I also have a 318 of a different kind as well, and it doesn't suck gas like a tank, just moves like one!
IslandS62 12-14-2004, 03:50 AM my Lebaron was a 318 too. Funny how a 5L V8 can produce no horsepower whatsoever! My grandfather had a 65' Plymouth Sattelite as well...what a monster, everyone loved that car. I remember the sheet metal on that car was such a heavy gauge my uncle wasn't able to hammer out a dent, and it was a BIG hammer.
Damn it sounds like I missed seeing the neighbor. :(
So Pat...
TTIWWOP!!
808Cardinal87 12-14-2004, 01:14 PM Damn it sounds like I missed seeing the neighbor. :(
So Pat...
TTIWWOP!!She's for topspin, the rest of us would go to jail :(
IslandS62 12-14-2004, 02:58 PM nah, Hawaii law is ridiculous in this regard. I think age of consent is 14. :confused
Thrlls: I guess I left my driveshaft nuts at Pat's house. If we do the DIY think you can swing by there sometime before the weekend and pick them up? Unless we decided we don't really need to undo the driveshaft(preferred)?
808Cardinal87 12-15-2004, 03:28 AM I'm not going to be able to make it out on Sunday. It's a boat day!:buttrock
Thrlls let me know when you can stop by and I'll give you the stuff.
808Cardinal87 12-15-2004, 03:29 AM nah, Hawaii law is ridiculous in this regard. I think age of consent is 14. :confusedWell that changes everything :evil2
thrlls 12-15-2004, 01:35 PM That's it, I'm keeping my 15yr old daughter far, far, away from you guys!
Pat - I'll try to stop by after work today, but it will be after 6:00 PM, but before 8:00 PM.....I hope.
What time does your neighbor come home... :shifty
email or pm me your ph# so I can call before I come. I'll be in a class all day today, but I will check my emails on break.

The Beastmaster 12-16-2004, 04:23 AM Thrlls has your nuts now! ;) You better be nice to him, there's not telling what he'll do with your nuts.
:lol :lol :lol
What the heck are you guys doing playing with each other's nuts???
Oh yeah, does Ann have yours neatly packed away? Along with all the stuff you bring in from the car after she goes shopping. At least she leaves the trunk open for you. :buttrock :alright
thrlls 12-16-2004, 11:50 AM Thrlls has your nuts now! ;) You better be nice to him, there's not telling what he'll do with your nuts.
Heh, heh!
Yeah, I got um' by the nuts all right!
And he's got four!

thrlls 12-16-2004, 03:27 PM So JP, are we on for this Sunday?
If so, what time....8:30? I'll be there at 7:00 :D
IslandS62 12-16-2004, 03:48 PM So JP, are we on for this Sunday?
If so, what time....8:30? I'll be there at 7:00 :D
We're ON if we have enough help. I think only yourself and ZZZING have offered to attend...but I guess that should be enough.
I have four jack stands and the one jack. I think when we did ZZZING's car we had 7 jack stands and 4 jacks under his car!
So to clarify, did we need to undo the driveshaft? ZZZING how does your car feel? Any problems or strange noises related tot he install?
The Beastmaster 12-16-2004, 07:32 PM IIRC, when working on thrlls car, the driveshaft was undone for the diff changeout. However, with the driveshaft undone, there is more room for the subframe to move up and down.

The Beastmaster 12-17-2004, 12:53 AM Check all of that guy's threads as I saw one where the seller of Fikse's was willing to split shipping. I'm pretty sure it's the same guy.
thrlls 12-17-2004, 12:53 AM I just spent half that amount on a pendant for Nancy....so now I'll have to wait. As tempting as it is, I don't want to get burned again like I almost did on my diff. My trust for overseas sales via the internet has gone South. Even locally, just ask Scott over on Maui.
Must do business with a legit company.
ZZZING 12-17-2004, 02:26 AM ZZZING how does your car feel? Any problems or strange noises related tot he install?
The car feels great, no problems or strange noises. I want to double check all the heat shields, I might change my nuts too, it they have them in stock. Do you have the part #?
Let me know the address and time
IslandS62 12-17-2004, 04:00 PM I don't know the part #s off-hand, but I have the invoice at home. BMW of HOn had to order them. Common sense would say that since they were out of stock, and I ordered some, that the parts guy would order more than 4...but that just makes too much sense.
I'll PM my address to you. It looks, by Thrlls posts, that we are starting at 8am, which is fine. I should have the car in the air, the wheels off and half the exhaust off by then!
thrlls 12-17-2004, 06:06 PM I'm surprised you had to special order the part. I had to order 4 when I did mine, and you would think if the part had 4 hits in 3 months; it's time to carry some on hand. It's not like it will take up a lot of space. Do you have any exhaust nuts? If not, I have some.....I took all that the stealer had so I wouldn't have to b/o more nuts....that's nuts! :eyecrazy
I'll bring my 2 jacks and 4 stands, along with whatever tools I think we will need. I'm going to Sears to see if I can get a Gear Wrench 24mm for the subframe bushing tool.......What, the club will buy it! Okay, I'll give you the receipt on Sunday....j/k :stickoutt
Let me know if you want me to pick up any tools from Dean. I also have the left over water from last week.....damn I need a truck now! :devillook (XRunner)
IslandS62 12-17-2004, 06:37 PM I don't have spare exhaust nuts, but I'm sure they'll come off woithout any problem. My old ones from 1999 came right off, and the ones on now are pretty new...plus the car is never driven in the rain.
I will call Dean and see if I can borrow the fan removal wrench again.
...and thrlls, if you can't get the 24mm rachet let me know and I can run and get it. Sears is having a 10% off mornig again on Saturday.
thrlls 12-17-2004, 09:36 PM What time does the sale start/end on Saturday morning? Maybe I can get away for an hour or so.
Damn....we're sounding like a bunch of women! :confused
Astroboy 12-17-2004, 09:44 PM Let me know if you need me to truck things over to JP's. I can do it tonight if you provide me with directions. Tomorrow I'm pretty much booked. PM me if I can help.
Astroboy
IslandS62 12-17-2004, 09:44 PM 7am-10am for the Sears sale. It's going to be very crowded though!
john,
Do you need a 24mm socket? I think I might have one and can drop it off at your house since you live on the way to my folk's house. email me: chungt006@hawaii.rr.com
thrlls 12-18-2004, 03:50 AM I just came from Sears and they don't have what we need. :(
Well, at least not the Ala mo store.
What is needed is a Gear Wrench type 24mm wrench. I don't think a deep socket will work either. It may work at the beginning, but once the shaft starts to get longer than the depth of the socket, it won't work. I'm going to check out NAPA or Checkers, they may have something. I asked the guy at Sears, he said they don't have that large of a Gear Wrench, but referred NAPA.
Don't worry, either way it will get done!
The Beastmaster 12-18-2004, 04:02 AM thrlls - U da man! Everything is finished on your cars so you don't need to use the tool anymore. Yet, you still buy the tools needed to get the job done properly for others! :thanks: :smiliecap

Seriously, no need to chase tools thrlls. Dean might have what we are looking for...I am emailing with him already. If you can, maybe stop by his place tommorrow and pick up those fan clutch wrenches though? If no can, I can run out and get them...no big deal. :D
I'll definitely give you a "fee" in return for use of the bushing tool. You shouldn't have to pay for an exensive tool you used only ONCE!
2XM: Thanks for the offer T, but I think we are good.

Don't even think of paying me a fee, or this may be my LAST DIY!The tool us being used, and that's all that matters. I just look at it like a mod for my car. I returned those projectorZ and bought the tool....so no biggie. Just enjoy your ride!
Let Dean know I'll come by his place this afternoon on my way home from work.....around 1:30 - 2:00.
thrlls 12-18-2004, 01:07 PM thrlls - U da man! Everything is finished on your cars so you don't need to use the tool anymore. Yet, you still buy the tools needed to get the job done properly for others! :thanks: :smiliecap
Yeah, I'm just following YOUR lead there Beastmasta!
Through all the DIY's we've had, you were always there to help, to the point that we now need you at EVERY DIY. Yet we only did one fix to your car, and we didn't even fix it.....instead we broke your brake nipple!
However, you still continue to loan us your tools and extend your expertise!
So, YOU DA MAN.....i'm just a grasshopper!
This is the core of being a BMWCCA member! Helping out your fellow enthusiast in what ever way you can for the shear joy of it!
IslandS62 12-18-2004, 06:13 PM Yeah, you guys are da best. That's why I don't mind (too much) for all the hours I have to donate to the club! Sometimes it's worth it! **Group hug**
Let's all sing Kum bah ya now :D
Thrlls, Dean said anytime you can stop by this afternoon and he will lend us those tools.
The Beastmaster 12-18-2004, 07:41 PM Let me know if you guys need the 2 ton jack.
ZZZING 12-18-2004, 08:31 PM I want to replace those driveshaft nuts, should not take very long. They had them in stock
topspin 12-18-2004, 08:32 PM Low coolant level shows up on my obc, and indeed it is low. Do I just top off the fluid, like when the oil level is low, or am I supposed to flush the whole system?
Secondly, I dont know what kind of coolant to get, I was hoping you guys knew :D
The Beastmaster 12-18-2004, 10:02 PM Top it off. Use only BMW coolant. For that you have to go to the dealer.
topspin 12-18-2004, 11:28 PM crap. The dealer isnt open tommrow huh?
The Beastmaster 12-18-2004, 11:33 PM crap. The dealer isnt open tommrow huh?
Unfortunately, not. How low are you? I just dump in some water to top off the radiator when I don't have the BMW coolant.
thrlls 12-19-2004, 01:05 AM Unfortunately, not. How low are you? I just dump in some water to top off the radiator when I don't have the BMW coolant.
Be sure to use distilled water, or it will haunt you later....ask me how I know!
BTW I just so happen to have 1/2 gal of the BMW coolant. Topspin if you can make it to my place you can have what you need. Mixed with distilled water it makes 1 gal. I just so happen to have distilled water also :D
thrlls 12-19-2004, 01:09 AM Yeah, you guys are da best. That's why I don't mind (too much) for all the hours I have to donate to the club! Sometimes it's worth it! **Group hug**
Let's all sing Kum bah ya now :D
Group hug??
Hell no, let's smoke a joint and sing Give Peace A Chance! :alright
thrlls 12-19-2004, 01:31 AM Okay, I got the 24mm Grear Wrench today, and will be bringing 3 jacks, 2 pairs of jack stands and a bunch of misc. tools. I also have the tools from Dean, and more nuts! Hopefully we won't need anything else.
Beastmaster, I think we got the jacks covered, but we could use your expertise if you're up to it.
Now i'm going to play with my new air compressor :D
IslandS62 12-19-2004, 04:06 AM If you guys are bringing air tools, I have a BIG compressor. No need for your little ones :D
IslandS62 12-19-2004, 11:43 PM Mahalo to ZZZING, Thrlls and topspin for all the invaluable help today. Especially to Woody for letting me use his fancy, schmancy tool, and to ZZZING for taking one for the TEAM!!
Hope your healing quickly ZZZING. :embarrasm
thrlls 12-20-2004, 01:10 AM Yep, another successful DIY!
This time the subframe bushing was done rather quickly.
We were able to work on 4 cars today, and leave JP's place by 5:00.
Mahalo IslandS52 for the host, and tell Anna Mahalo for getting all the food and drinks! The lunch was just right... thanks again.
Topspin, I hope you keep coming to these DIY's, we can use all the help we can get. Now you can bleed your own brakes. Go to Hawaii Import Parts on Ilaniwai St. and pick up some Blue Ate brake fluid. Then on the next DIY we can flush your brake system....well, you can! We'll show you how.
Hey ZZZING, hows the forehead?
Things could have been worse, the wrench could have bent if it hit the ground instead of your head :stickoutt
Just playing with you dude!
Keep some ice on it to prevent any bruising.
Mahalo for your support & help.
For those that may be wondering what happen to ZZZING, he got hit in the head with a breaker bar as he was laying under the front of the car. JP was trying to loosen a tensioner, when the bar slipped.....and landed on ZZZING's forehead.
He had to be rushed to the emergency room for 15 stitches, and some surgery on his right eye. The socket fell in his eye, and the breaker bar on his forehead. But being a trooper as he is, he came back to help finish up.
Mahalo ZZZING :buttrock
NOT......he had a small, but deep cut on his forehead which bled alot, but no stitches were needed. He's okay, and he continued to help with the rest of the DIY projects.
:D :D :D
ZZZING 12-20-2004, 01:32 AM I'm fine, just a cut on the forehead, no bruising or anything. I'm glad we got everything done, good job by all. Gotta keep butterfingers away from that breaker bar though :D
The Beastmaster 12-20-2004, 01:34 AM Ouch! I've been in pain today, too. I can't wait for tomorrow when I get this stent removed! :redspot Well, maybe not as one of the sites I researched said this.
Stent removal is often accomplished through a flexible cystoscope in the office using local analgesia. It is moderately uncomfortable but usually not intolerable.

4 cars! That is definitely a record! Were you guys using JP's sch40 breaker bar, or another one? Well. I look forward to the next one. So when is it? January?
IslandS62 12-20-2004, 02:54 AM Damn, I am so sorry A. :( Greasy hands, small spaces, and someone laying under your work area don't mix! Hope all is well.
Maybe we need to do a coolant flush day (a possibility since it looks like a few of us need it). Just no leaving old coolant around for Cesar. :nono That's all that is left on my list, though I am sure the Audi could use a few services.
ZZZING 12-20-2004, 03:20 AM I will need to do the Whalen seat bushings one day soon, my driver's seat is starting to annoy me. Coolant sounds messy, but not all that difficult. I'm still thinking about paying someone to do the coolant and check the radiator neck and water pump.
thrlls 12-20-2004, 12:11 PM I'm up to help with a coolant flush, just not at my place. I'm having someone else (professional) to it. I don't want to deal with the disposal of the fluid, and for the cost is not that bad.
Gene V 12-20-2004, 01:38 PM Hell no, let's smoke a joint and sing Give Peace A Chance! :alright
thrlls, you been hangin with Ricky Williams?... :D
The Beastmaster 12-20-2004, 07:56 PM thrlls, you been hangin with Ricky Williams?... :D
:lol :lol :lol
Nah, thrlls is old so make it Cheech and Chong!
thrlls 12-20-2004, 08:30 PM After running with Ricky, I need to hang with Cheech & Chong and have one of those reefers rolled up in Bambo Paper.....but I think it was the constant use of ZigZag paper that makes me want to autox now!
Gene - You've been using ZigZag paper too huh? That must be why you're so damn fast through those cones.....nothing counts for experience...not even paper! :D
IslandS62 12-20-2004, 08:47 PM hmm. I've never tried any of this stuff. Maybe this is why I can only go fast in a straight line. :(
thrlls 12-25-2004, 01:38 AM A forced DYI!
My high pressure power steering hose sprung a leak yesterday at work. :(
Of course the steeler didn't have a hose, so I had to b/o the part. It should be here next week, I paid extra to fly that sucker in, so I can install it before the next autox on Sunday.
I changed the oil in the Golf, 318is, and roady today. The stealer tightened my oil filter cap on the roady tooooooo damn tight :mad like how they did my wheels after they stole my Axxis pads :mad :mad
It's sad, but I've concluded that I should never take my car to the stealer, or will need to check everything they do when I get my car back.
I also noticed that the front wheels of the Golf were worn on the inside very badly, so much so, that I needed to get new tires today. Took it to Lex B to get it aligned, and found out the car needs a new control arm on the passenger side :mad
Another fix waiting for me when I get back from my vacation....yeah :(
The Beastmaster 12-25-2004, 03:07 AM Your daughter did all that damage after being home for a few days! She's hell on wheels, literally!
ZZZING 12-25-2004, 03:15 AM It's sad, but I've concluded that I should never take my car to the stealer, or will need to check everything they do when I get my car back.
Sorry to hear about your problems, but have a great time in Colorado.
I have an appointment at BME for Monday to flush the coolant, the dealer is off limits except for buying parts.
topspin 12-25-2004, 04:16 AM I guess that means the coolant flush is not a DIY.
My car hit 40k, and I just realized that means inspection 2 time. Its a good time anyway, haven done maintence for a while. Inspection 2 seemed like a hassle even for you guys who knew what you were doing. Im pretty much clueless :nono . Its going in to BME on tuesday, and everything should be fixed in time for the autoX :cool . I guess Ill tell em to do a coolant flush while they are at it.
About the autox, ive never been, so what do I need to know, but I made a new thread for that.
thrlls 12-25-2004, 05:22 AM Your daughter did all that damage after being home for a few days! She's hell on wheels, literally!
No, it's left-overs from the previous curb a-peal!
808323I 12-31-2004, 11:55 PM Im down for DIY!
I need to learn more about these sophisticated cars!
