View Full Version : Amp to power EVERYTHING?
Roffle Waffle 11-23-2004, 01:36 AM I bought a Phoenix Gold Octane R 9.0:5, because the Ebay auction stated the maximum, and not RMS ratings. So I got stuck with 150w/2 for my Focal Utopias (good) and about 250wrms for my 2ohm Kicker S10L7 (weak).
I am looking to change my sub to a 12" PHASE LINEAR ALIANTE, which I heard was BETTER then the Focal Utopia 13wx, and also I want a closed enclosure.
Anyway, I'm looking for an amp that does 150 watts x 2 at 4 ohms RMS, and 400-800 watts at 4 (FOUR)ohms for the sub.
Something that would sell for under $600 on Ebay, and good quality. I've owned JL, PG, and Orion, so something in that range

souroull 11-23-2004, 04:57 AM there's a 5 chan viper
600rms@1ohm, the highest i've seen in a 5 chan so far, and especially for the price
it can also be strapped to another d600.1 to get 1200@2ohm
jamesr316 11-23-2004, 05:05 AM why not just get another amp for the sub? I don't believe I've seen a 5 chan that can put 600 watts @ 4 ohms
Powerslide 11-23-2004, 05:10 AM how about the 'memphis belle?'
that things is a BEAST
something like 1000wx1 for the sub with a sick 4ch amp as well .

1000w at 1 ohm right? Thats 500w at 2 ohms, and 250w at 4 ohms. I would only see 250 watts :(

jamesr316 11-23-2004, 03:17 PM I don't think you will find what you are looking for. Why not just use 2 amps?
Bremsen 11-23-2004, 03:31 PM I'm confused. :confused
I see (http://www.infinitecaraudio.com/cgi-bin/icastore.cgi?user_action=detail&catalogno=R905) rated power on the 9.0:5 at 125x4@4ohms and 400x1 @2ohm. Am I missing something? 400w should be good for the L7.

scott_freedman 11-24-2004, 10:09 AM if you could find a single amp that would do that it would be Huge
wher youd you put it.
you are essentaily looking for a 125 x4 so it would do 125 x2 + 500 x1 (125 x2 bridged.
gor less money you should pick up 2 orion extreme 500
that would do a real 500 ( proabably 600+) inyo 4 ohms.

Tahiti E36 325i 11-26-2004, 02:26 AM If you could get your hands on a McIntosh MC4000 rated at 4x100 + 2x300 RMS in 4ohms, that should do, but they hardly come up on ebay.
Otherwise they had this http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=4950&item=5732910460&rd=1 , too bad it's sold already, would have been perfect for your application.
There is also a couple of McIntosh MC440 4x100+2x100

Roffle Waffle 11-26-2004, 03:10 AM thx for your help guys. I bought this http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=5734160284&ssPageName=ADME:B:EOAB:US:6 because the price was very nice, considering I can sell my old Phoenix Gold and make a small profit
souroull 11-26-2004, 09:34 PM oh man, thats a great price
Roffle Waffle 12-09-2004, 07:12 PM I just installed the amp, and didn't tune it except setting the cutoff frequencies to what my old amp had.
- a lot more background static then the Phoenix Gold amp (probably needs to be grounded directly to the battery). the PG amp had practically NO audible hiss
+ the highs sound a lot more natural for some reason. Rammstein finally sounds as it should
+ the mids seem to be much deeper
+ smaller size, but more power
+ 500rmw watts to the Kicker S10L7. Moves the hair on my hands and head
+ better designed speaker wire input holes
+ better position of wires and adjustments
