A modded xbox running XBMC or another media-friendly dashboard is definitely the best way to go. Xboxes are about 99% PC, they're very compatible with running media files as well as retaining the ability to be a DVD player or video game machine.

They're capable of VGA, svideo, component, and composite video output. Also optical or coax digital audio output (surround sound).

I can put you in touch with "my friend" that is VERY experienced with modding xboxes. "He" can set up your system so that its 100% ready to go into your car and do what you want. "He" could even make a custom skin using pictures of your car to serve as your system's background image.

Email me for details.

You can load games in to the hard drive by upgradeing your hdd with much bigger one ( I got 200 gb one in mine) and get to store games, or dvds and alot more

Xbox it up!!!! Or you could install both, and put them behind plexiglass and make it all custom and shit.... like have a blue[/COLOR] backlight behind the PS2 and a green backlight behind your Xbox.... That would be CLEAN!! :redspot :alright :buttrock

Kingrye - Where in Iowa are you from? I'm in Story City, 10 miles north of Ames. :)

Miguel - Have you decided which one you want to go with yet? Please say Xbox!

Yeah, you can save music videos, mp3s, DivX movies, pictures, whatever. It can play any media file your computer will play, except quicktime or real media.

You can even play music videos and mp3s one after the other in a playlist.

Two options on how to do it:

1. The easiest for you would be to have "my friend" do it ("He's" done about 40 of them already). "He" does it by reprogramming the xbox onboard bios chip and then puts in a new bigger hard drive, finally filling it with software and games.

2. You order a modchip off the net and try to figure it out yourself. Problem with that is that its approximately the same cost as "my friend", doesn't install itself (definitely easy to ruin your system if you don't know what you're doing), and doesn't include any of the setup files, programs, or games. It took "my friend" about two weeks working every day to figure everything out and get it all installed and working properly (just graduated college, didn't have anything better to do).

If you're interested in more information/prices, send me an email and I'll put you in touch with "my friend".

I have a 250GB hard drive in my xbox, and can boot it up with either hacked or microsoft running environments (to retain xbox live compatibility, requires original game disc). There are free services on the net to play online as well, you can use them with a regular or hacked box (playing backups).

I actually use my xbox mostly for movies. Download a new movie off eMule, then either burn it to a CD-R or stream it directly through my home's LAN. The movies play out in full digital video and audio, its great!

I also have over 70 xbox games saved on my hard drive, I can switch between any of them without even getting out of my seat! Just pull the triggers and hit the black button for an In-Game-Reset and I can scroll through a new game to play. I also have THOUSANDS of NES, SNES, N64, Sega, Genesis, Gameboy, Arcade... games on it. I have every game ever made for most of those systems.

"My friend" really set me up nice, send me an email and I'll put you in touch with him.

put a PS2 in there - I love my Xbox, but the game selection sucks balls compared to PS2.

A modded Xbox would be the best choice in my opinion. You can check out Team Xecuter (http://teamxecuter.com/). The new mod chips and adapter they have mad modding your box easier than ever. If you install any of the newer releases of XBMC (Xbox Media Center) you can do just about anything.

Hook up a wireless network adapter to it and transfer music, games & movies to your Xbox while it's parked in the garage. All versions of XBMX have a web server built in but at first they were pretty lame. Just lets you start music and videos. I hear the latest versions have some more functionality. I downloaded it the other day and will be installing this weekend to check it out.

Most mods get boring after a while but they are always doing something new to keep modders interested with Xbox. As soon as I can get enough coin and the nerve to mod my dash to put in a video display, I'll seriouly consider putting mine in there.

You should search either this forum or E46fanatics. I remember reading someone's post about their Xbox installation. Looked great. Even had controller ports installed in the console and dash. Looked sweet.

Make sure to post pics of your install. I would also be willing to help with the modding if you need any info or assistance with installing the Mod chip (if you live in Atlanta). Just let me know and good luck

keep in mind a ps2 with a hard drive addition is a great choice. I havea 160gb hd in mine and i dont ever have to buy any games anymore. u will need an external hardrive, a network adapter, and either HDloader or HDadvance. U upload games to the HD and loading times are soo much quicker. Xbox selection of games suck compared to ps2. so it all depends on what u want. Xbox on the other hand ownz for modding. u can put emulators on there and play all different formats of media like others have mentioned.
