I just got the UUC short shift kit and had it professionally installed and now I have trouble shifting into 1st, is that normal or no?

It will tend to be notchy at first. If it keeps up you might want to see if they installed it correctly. Did you get the DSSR also? Call Rob at UUC and he will try to help.

Make sure your clutch stop is screwed in all the way. If everything feels normal when the car is cold and it get's harder to put it in first once everything warms up I'd point you toward the clutch stop.

If you have one gear that is specifically harder than the rest, no, it's not normal.

You may simply be "discovering" a stiff gear in your transmission that you were not aware of before with the original mushy shifter covering up the symptoms. The shifter itself does not cause this, but it will reveal a pre-existing issue.

With these transmissions, having one particular gear that is rough is not unusual. To fix it (or at least improve the situation), try changing your transmission fluid to Redline D4 Synthetic ATF. In our experience, this is the best fluid for smoothing out BMW gearboxes. Once put in, it will take about 300 miles to fully flush through and displace the original fluid.
