I just got offered today a 2004 Porsche Carrera with 150 miles (one hundred

and fifty). The car is yellow and black, yellow inserts, trim and behind the

seats. The car has everything. Msrp was $79000. He's asking $62000

because I'm a good friend. BTW my I'm selling my M3 for $44,200.

What would you do? :help

I just got my 04 M3 (it only has 200 miles on it and it already has been sprayed by a skunk that I tried NOT to run over and kill!). If I could have gotten a new 911 for about 11m more than mine and I had the extra funds kicking around, I would have jumped on it! Not too many cars look good in yellow, but a Porsche Carrerra does (IMO)! I toyed with used Porsche certified 996s instead of a new M3, in the end, I decided new was better for my perfectionist personal issues (haha)! Plus it was tough to find a non C4 with PSM (their stability control) for when the weather wasn't so nice!

While the M3 is in a different class against most cars (performance, style, etc.), I believe a 911 is at least one step up! It may not be dramatically faster, but it does everything so well! I did two Porsche 996 launches (the 911 Twin Turbo in Reno and the 911C4 in Atlanta) at my last job and I was trying to justify to myself how reasonable they were to own! HAHA! Also.... I was at Homestead Raceway for 3 weeks in 2000. We had 9 red 996s from the Porsche Driving School there. We ran them on the track all day, everyday (at 8/10ths their limit). All we did was change tires, oil and add gas! They didn't break! Unlike the Ferrari 360 Challenge Car, Renntech Mercedes and Corvette, which all had minor to major issues!

Is it a Carrera S w/ the Chrono package? If it isn't, I think I'll pass...

Kevlar,

The Carrera S w/ Chrono package is on the new body style Porsche (997). The 997s didn't come out until the '05 model year. The car that TC is talking about is a 996. '04 was the last year of the 996 body style.

You're right... I misread the post.

Go with the ///M. That's what i would do without hesitation.

Stick with the M unless it's the 997 Porsche.

He's taking a pretty big hit and the price seems fair, but I agree with previous posts . . . go with the 997 if you've got the funds. The 997 is such an upgrade from the 996. I think the resale on the 996 is going to continue spiraling down at a rapid rate

who are you selling your 02 M3 to with 15k+ miles for $44,200 in the winter time?

i'd keep your M3, forget about the ZCP package and do other upgrades for the money (rg4s or HREs, brembos, seats, delage intake or the new K&N Type 57 intake, pullies, etc) rather then spending that money on a brand new, stock car.
