Does anyone have one , or know how the various pieces are attached?

Most likely just clips on the back...

If they are like the E32 and E39, the wood is plasticized and have bolts sticking out the back of it. The bolts friction fit into these nylon slots. Just pry them loose very slowly.

This is on my 95 525i.

Driver Side of steering col.
Pull out on steering col side

Passager Side of steering col
Just pulls striaght out...

Passager Side of Radio
there is a screw that holds it in behind the pieces that make the radio cover all nice, the piece on the passanger side should pop right out.

What do you guys who remove it replace it with? I would assume it's not the prettiest underneath.

What about the doors?

I seem to think that they are glued to the door panel... let me look today and I will get back to you....

As for what to put back in there.... I don't know.... I always just put mine back because I was just doing work on the car.
