I hear all this discussion about people getting the SS headers and cats with whatever exhaust they like and some other people opt for the euro header/cat set-up. I was wondering if there was a significant advantage of one over the other in terms of what you get for the money.

Though I haven't seen any dynos to compare the two (dynos compare euro to stock or SS to stock, but not euro to SS), I think the SS gives slightly more power with a tiny bit of a difference in the way the curve runs.

I went with euro because it was cheaper, and it was factory. I wanted to give the dealer as little reason as possible to cause problems for me under warrranty (not that they could get away with that, but still...) and I also wanted to keep a straight face if I said yes to the question, "Is it all factory or did you mod it?" :D

The biggest difference is in the cats as oppossed to SS versus Euro headers. The SS or Larini cats are much more free flowing then the Euro cats. 200 cel vs. 400 cel. I went with the Euro headers as most of my research seemed to indicate there wasn't much difference. My thought process was that the M engineers would not have any design comprise limitations for the header design so my choice was to go with the M engineers.

www.bavhypersports.com :redspot I like BHS headers/race cats combo myself. BHS headers have it a lil more punch and the sound is very nice. Talk to Joel Swanson....he knows everything there is to know about M3s. :cool

What or where are the BHS headers & cats. Been in their web site a few times and can only manage to find euro oem and SS. Can't ever seem to find BHS. Is this a custom item that they don't have in the web site?

I think BHS is a remarkter, and they don't manufacture anything. I could be wrong.
The only headers I see there are Euro.

BHS Headers are a copy of the SS. They use 100 cell cats as does the SS.

Retail SS Headers w/ Cats = 42xx marker
Retail BHS Setup = 3000

So you get the same exact design and flow for 1200 less.

I got ya. By the way the SS cats are 200 cell as are the Larinis. OEM is 400. Looks like the BHS have a little flow advantage.

From talking to SS, I was told they are 100. Hmmm :confused

I've found SS headers for just over $1800 and you can do custom cats for ~350 and ~200 (high estimate) in labor.

<$2500

Take a look here from the importers web site http://www.bmpdesign.com/product-exec/product_id/1620/category_id/100

200 in labor? I got install quotes ranging from 6 to 8 hours for header and cat install. If you can get this done for 200 more power to ya.

I bought my euro headers and cats for $2k plus shipping, and it took me about 14 hours to do the install. I had no idea what was going on except for Ferris' writeup on his MCoupe euro install, without which I would never have completed or even attempted it. I started at 7:30am and worked until the early afternoon when it started to rain. Took a nap and came back out a couple hours later. Finished about 12:30 am or so.

The car ran fine the next morning, for about 2 minutes. Then it turned to crap and died out a couple times on the way to work. Turns out I reversed the two post-cat O2 sensors and ruined them. $865 in service later... :mad

Now I bet I could do the swap myself, in about 8 hours. Half that if I had a proper lift and every tool I could imagine.

Sorry, I was going to do the headers myself and tow the car to the shop w/ my jeep and have them weld the cats in. That's how I came up with a ~$200 estimate. Shoulda clarified.

Does anyone know of a good shop to install headers/exhaust in the LA/Pasadena area?
