So as i was driving around bored on this fantastic saturday night, my friend and i spot a black 3 series coupe goin the other way on the road...maybe we can have some fun...

I have only had my S4 for around two months but i have exhaust on it to let those around me wanting to race that maybe theres somehtin under the hood. A lot of poeple dont realize its an S4 as there are tons of A4s around...

So we follow this guy onto a main road, Golden Gate, and i ride next to him to see if he wants to go. he has his windows up and doesnt appear to want any... :(

We take a right onto 41 and he follows. as we pull up to a light right after our turn, we are both stoppped at the begining of the light in front of other cars. myself in the far left lane, him in the far right. (3 lane road) When it turns green he launched off the light, and i jus creeped off not expecting anything.. :mad

I am forced to get on it in my car and he has about a 4 car head start before i realized, im lookin ahead jus chillen... then i get on it and jus blow him away while hes still floorin his. i think he shut down after he say me closin the gap real quick... :redspot

Round 2...this time im ready and i come up to him and i rev jus to make Sure hes gonna race again and ill show him whats up... :evil2 I guess he got the sign...as it turns green i launch around 2k and i hear him launchin his car and he squeaks off the line...i basically didnt stay around long enough to find out how well he launched...four wheel drive is quite nice... and well he lost by lets says around ~6 car lengths to 70 or so, and i laughed my ass off...

made my night as i know numerous kids that think theyre bmw's are the fastets things out there, and i dont thik he had a clue..... :alright

Not meaning to hijack or anything but I actually beat a rusty 1.5 civic (no mods other than weight reduction due to rusting and an freeflow exhaust also due to rust) Civic had 3 fat ppl in it.. The new S4 is in fact quite faster than the B5 S4 but that is stock for stock.
However, with a simple ECU upgrade and diverter valves, the B5 can walk away from a stock B6 S4. 0-60 is 5.0 or less depending on driver skill on a chipped B5 and 1/4 mile is in the mid to low 13s (once again dependent on driver skill).

Lastly, the V8 is a beautiful motor and one of the best v8s ever created but compared to the S54 it cant compare in terms of hp/L.

Uh...diverter valves don't make the car faster, bud. The advantages of keeping boost while shifting are negligible in a car with such little turbo lag. Also, a B5 S4 would need more than just a chip to really walk a B6. It'd need at least a catback exhaust, though a turbo-back exhaust would be more than enough.

Billet aluminum diverter valves due reduce lag b/c as you know the plastic stock ones dont recover responsively when throttle is engaged and the upgrade creates smoother throttle modulation all resulting in faster acceleration. BTW there is lag in this car no matter what people say .. chipped or no chip.

Not true about needing more than just a chip to walk a b6 cuz i raced one from a roll head to vs a guy that i know ... and i walked him ever so slightly and we both know how to drive. all i had at that point was a chip and he was stock ;)

First of all, I didn't say there was no lag. Second, the only way a diverter valve affects acceleration is by cutting down the already short amount of lag after a shift. That you would include DVs in the list of things a B5 would need to walk a B6 implies that you think they produce significant gains. They don't. If expensive aluminum DVs were so important, then the masses of stage 3 500hp B5's would be using them. They aren't. Most people, like myself, are using 710N's from the TT. The only reason people use 710Ns over the stockers is because the N's die less often.

All I'm disputing is that diverter valves make a big difference. I'd be amazed if an aftermarket Dv-equipped S4 did anything other than slooooowly pull away from a stock S4.

i guess i didnt clarify in my story.... it was a 325Ci and no i never expected to have an actual race...

i mean jeez i guess its a rcrime to race a BMW and win even if it is just for a fun nite on the town... i didnt have anything else to do and he was the one to go first, and it was all in good fun... i never meant for this to be an open bashings on something non BMW-related, me having an S4....

an to the guy who said i should find an M3, read my story.... my brother just got rid of his M3 and all the times we raced, he maybe got about 1/2 car length on me, its SMG... and yes he knows how to drive... so i guess i could find an M3 but i dunno about gettin my ass handed to me now do i?

blew my friends v6 a4 by several buslenghts from 40-100mph although he never got up there. He also thought that audis were teh siht but as it turned out **the more expensive sports car won** go figure. I did not turn that into a kill story tho since there was nothing to kill.. more like stomping on a bug.
