This WRX pulls up I hear that WRX type of rumble...Brooom Rummm rummm VRooom..You all have heard that distinct sound of the boxer 4 some what ricey some what nice. Well im going about 75 MPH. Then I slow down till about 50 when he pulls up. I took him all the way up to 110 MPH and took him by 2 cars. Those cars really lack in the high end.

A4 3.0 aren't fast, but they aren't as slow as many think they are. They pull a lot harder than 1.8T, especially with a 6 speed. I shocked a kid in a WRX on a twisty road yesterday in my slushbox E30 325i. He looked pretty pissed that he couldn't pull away from me.

Summary: All WRXs are not THAT fast, Audi 3.0s are not that slow.

WRXs really aren't that fast at highway speeds. They hit a wall at around 100mph.

Up top, the WRX has nothing on an A4 with a 6...

My mom has a 98 30v V6 with variable valve timing. 5 speed. A friend of mine has an 04 WRx 5 speed. After 70, the WRX couldn't pull on me at all. We were on the taconic parkway one night driving at very unreasonable speeds (2am, but still no excuse), and I was slooooooooowly inching away from him till the speed governor hit.

WRX are not fast on the top end. Audi are made for top end power. :lol WRX are nice on the end but turbo doesnt spool as well at high speeds.

welll seeing as how they are both AWD I really dont see the disadvantage for the WRX. Also why wouldnt the Turbo spool at high speeds ? Thats a lame comment :rolleyes

WRX's arn't that fast period, they're all launch.

My step bro had an 04 WRX, he went for a ride in the M3, 2 months later he got an STI :)

Has anyone noticed that the professional who test cars and report their findings (Car&Driver, Road&Track, Automobile, etc.) don't waste their breath having these ridiculous arguments?

A car, assuming that it is representative of it's model and trim, will take a certain amount of time to attain any given speed.

This is affected by air density and temperature, elevation, humidity, tire diameter (easily measured) and by less empirically obvious measures like driver skill, alertness and a hot of other factors.

In other words, it's plain STUPID to think that you can claim one car to be faster than another car based on your personal experiences. This is why aforementioned publications prints meticulous tables of empirically gathered information.

So give it the fuck up. It's easy enough to look up the specs for each car, and a simple comparison will tell you which is faster in a given category.

This thread is stupid.

So magazine racing is better than actual observation. Is that what you are saying? I find the opposite to be true.

What is magazine racing?

Different magazine measure these cars, and over replications you can get a pretty good idea what a car is capable of. For instance, if over 20 tests, a stock WRX pulls a 0-60 of 5.9sec and an A4 3.0, over 20 tests, does it in 7.1 secs, then the WRX is a faster car to 60, period, the end, over.

Then you can compare, say, the 50-70MPH times. Again, either one car is faster or they have identical times. Regardless, there can be no argument as to which car is faster, assuming both have been tested repeatedly and properly.

Street racing has FAR too many variables for someone to make some blanket, meaningless statement like "A4 3.0's aren't THAT fast" or "My A4 is faster than a WRX because I beat one on a highway one day."

I trust numbers, assuming they come from reliable people who know how to measure them. I don't trust word of mouth from car guys who like to spend their time bullshitting about anything, as long as they can argue about it.

I'm sorry, why are you here then? This might not be your idea of "fun" but to some people it is. Everyone has the right to their own opinion, you expressed yours, now let people express theirs, just relax man, you don't have to agree with everyone, but just b/c you don't agree you should not make fun of people and call them stupid. :nono

Oh yeah, they are 1.2 liter bigger than the 1.8T too :D

I realize this was sent here from OT (where it actually belongs), but given the language, I'm just shutting it down now.
