When I turned on my heater tonight. It smelled like exhaust was flowing through it. It was making me dizzy. I dunno what is making it do it. But it just started.... Is it safe to drive?

Do search on heater smell (odor?). I know this has been covered, but haven't really figured it out myself (haven't cared to, never use my heater). It ~SHOULD~ be on here somewhere.

If you're lucky though someone will post the answer for ya.....

Just a guess, but maybe you have an exhaust leak under the hood. Has your car gotten louder lately?

are you sure it smells like exhaust? when i first stated mine up a while back it smelled horrible, it hadnt been used in a long time and it blew dirt and crap everywhere. it went away after a few mins of using it. has it been a long time since it was last used?

no it must have been a 1 time thing. I used it a bunch recently, but when I first started using it, it smelled like something died... Anyway, its not doing it anymore. I dunno why it did it then.

Something might HAVE died in there. But using it burned it all away. There are tons of small places in there that critters like to crawl into to try and stay warm during winter. Some just get a bit warmer!

Well you see when I bought the car. the battery date, last check up, licence plate exp. date was all 2002.... that was 2 years ago... lol...

The car just sat out for 2 years..

Thats why the roof is all oxidized to hell.

i was looking at an E30 318i and the owner had told me the car hadnt been run in a long time. i went to open the hood and as soon as i got the hood open a rabbit jumped out at me. it was really cold then so it must have gotten up there to get warm and couldnt figure out how to get out. needless to say i didnt get that car. it was a pile to begin with and god knows what that thing could have been chewing on. it just shows what can get into a car that sits for a while, i have a friend that found a dead bird in his rangers engine.
