First let me say my car is not a stock e30 325i its turbocharged. I recently just blew the head gasket, and put it back together a few weeks ago, but i haven't been getting on it because i thought i had other problems. Anyway the car seemed to be checking out, and i needed a boost fix. So i hooked up the water injection, put the larger injectors in, and put some colder plugs in. I was ready to go for a ride, hoping things were set, and i wouldn't blow another head gasket.
Anyway i was cruising down the highway at about 75-80, when a few nice cars roll by me, i get some head turns, but i continue on at the same speed. I was still a little timid about laying into my car agian. At the end of the pact though about ten seconds back there is a black e46 m3. I still didn't really think right away ok i want to race this guy, i was just admiring the car this was the first e46 m3 i've seen in my area, (i live in a small town in CT). Im looking over at it though because hes kind of staying on the side of me. Then i hear what sounded like a downshift. I admit my heart starting beating faster. So i downshift into fourth (i have pretty short gears so thats the lowest i could go) I was on sure what gear he was in. Still side by side i look over, and he gives me a head nod. I lay into the gas pedal, he jumped about 1/2 to 3/4 of a car on me, but fourth gear with my turbo is a strong gear, and i was edging up. by about 130 he was about 1/4 car length on me, and we shut down at about the same exact time. I know he could have kept on going, but i glad he decided to shut it down, because i didn't want to push my car anymore on its first run back out. I forgot to mention i was running 14psi with a T-60, and was probably in the area of 300whp. Plus my car weights around 2,600 pounds with it lightened. I don't think i'll run into an opportunity like that again so i had to take it.

Thanks guys, i just need to get a real tune on it, with some real engine management to make it the way i want it. Run about 16psi with some 100 octane, and see what kind of numbers i can get.

And then again, I think it's just the rating system (hp vs. bhp) that makes a difference. No?

Some people say the difference is there because of the rating system, others say it's because of the small differences in some parts (exhaust...).

And I think they have like what 270 torque, atleast I know its in the 270's. And they weigh in the middle 3K range, maybe alittle less. So you definitely should have handed him his a**. With 300 whp and only weighing 2600 pounds. He was proabaly in third gear when he down shifted though, because if you both were in fourth I dont see how you would have only kept up with him like that.

Nice run :buttrock The T-60 can make all the diff. in the world. I've driven BassMasters E36M3 (bimmerforum member). He's got a T-60 aswell; a revuilt engine, etc. At low boost the car was making 500-600whp and it's capeable of 1000whp on high boost. It's the fastest thing (from a roll) that I've driven to date. It would ruin anybody's day that went up against it :devillook

Have you done cams, timing gears, pulleys, and flywheel? You may also want to lower your rear gears so you can maximize the boost you're running.
Maybe out of a 325???

Yes, he did all the work himself... He's running a stand alone ecu aswell... New compression ratio is 8.5:1. 1995 e36 M3 (OBD1 3.2 L) :devillook

6 puck clutch takes a little getting use to but - it grabs like crazy. Stock tranny can handle the power too :eyecrazy

I suggested a widebody kit or rear fender rolling to the owner so more of that power can make it to the ground. Insane...

4-BNGR

P.S. 140mph in 4th gear with rpm's to go and then a whole 'nother gear - was no problem to achieve...

I have a video of my E30 turbo running against an e46 from over a year ago. I'll try to find it. These days my car is going to proove to be too much for the E46. It will be no contest.

great kill...though i'm surprised you didn't pull more than 1/2 car length from 80 to 130. a stock M3 only produces 270-280whp and weighs 3400lbs (about 800lbs more than your car). did you not put the pedal to the metal or what? of course i'm assuming the M3 was stock.

Im basing my whp off some guys with similar set-ups. My car is un-tuned so it could be lower. it will break loose in third from a roll at about 60-65 when i lay into the gas. Like someone else said he could have been in third so he got that initial jump. Plus i had to shift into 5th because of my gearing 3.73's which will give me a little loss in excelleration because thats definately the slowest shift for me. At about 130 im in the area of 5600 5700 rpms. I would like to have another run at it because i agree i think i could beat him buy more there might have been some hesitation on my part, because i didn't want anything ot break again. Either way it fun to know i was reeling in a e46 m3 with my e30.
Yeah i agree i could use some different gearing, maybe something as long a 2.93's to put more load on the turbo to get it to spool faster. I did rebuild the engine with lower compression JE's besides that everything else was done with stock parts except the clutch.
