hey guys...
are the e46 323 and the 325 both 2.5L engines?:dunno
i figured the 323 is a 2.3L engine and the 325 is a 2.5L engine.
on kbb it said that the engine size of the 323 was 2.5 though.
the 325 was 2.5 also...but the 328 was 2.8L
so is this correct or should i disregard the info?:95

same engine.... the 323 is indeed a 2.5L engine.... bmw decided to call it a 323 cause they wanted a bigger gap, or at least make it seem like there was a bigger gap, between the 323 and 328....

well not actually the same engine, cause the 325 has more hp.... but the 323 is a 2.5L engine also...

actually, they are the same engine.

Let's just say they did some "Paper Engineering".

it goes for the same arguement on how the E36 323is and 328is are only 0.1 seconds apart 0-60. Just some more of that Paper Engineering.

The M54 is a ULEV engine (don't think the M52TU is), and the power ratings are different. M54 = 184bhp, and M52TU = 170bhp.

thanks for that info. i figured there was some engine difference.:)
anyways....2.5L engine and 170 hp sure beats a 1.8L engine and 138 hp from the 318:D
actually i might be pushing 140 hp now:buttrock :laugh

a friend with an E36 323is with dinan intake, chip, and fan removed dynoed 170 at the wheels. a 95 325i with chip, intake, and fan removed dynoed 181. My 92 325 with exhaust and chip (stock intake and with fan) dynoed 170.

Correct. In addition the change in nomenclature was used to directly differentiate the two 2.5 liter engines, not to make a larger gap in the model lines.

Many people still think the 323 is a 2.3 liter.

i'll admit it, that's what i thought. i thought it was a 2.3L, that's why i asked the question.

My baby is still too slow.

Thank you very much 400lb drop top motor!:laugh

I still love it. I was in the same predicament. I wanted a 330ci cabrio and couldn't afford it, so I looked for a 325ci cabrio and couldn't find one in ti silver, black leather, sports, power top and 5 SPEED (I kept finding friggin' tip). THe closest I got was a 2001 325ci cabrio with a blue top.:(

Then I found a 2000 323ci cabrio that had everything I want (except I didn't want MY wheels to have curb rash.) OH well, I bought it. It's still much quicker than my beater Civic.

If you can get a good deal on a 323, go for it if you can't afford the 330. It's still a wonderful car.
