MattE21 11-09-2004, 01:18 PM looking good! and welcome! :wave
blitzed310 11-09-2004, 04:21 PM Who is this "JPS", what specs came with the car that makes it a JPS?
Hartge82H3 11-09-2004, 07:03 PM JPS aka John Player Special Limited Edition was available in 1981 and 1982 and only in the United Kingdom & Australia. These cars were introduced using the successes of the JPS sponsored racecars.
All their cars were black with gold JPS striping, JPS decals on the C-pillars, dash plaque with production number, and JPS horn button.
The mods were pretty much limited to Bilstein gas pressure shocks, Motorsport lowering springs (-25mm), black cloth Recaro sports seats, Motorsport type front spoiler, suede three spoke sports steering wheel, sunroof, BBS/Mahle original Motorsport alloys in 7x13” with gold centres, with an option for A/C and/or 5spd dogleg gearbox. They came with an un-modified stock 323i engine, which I find odd since they were "named" after a sponsored racecar.
blitzed310 11-09-2004, 07:23 PM Thats very interesting, good to learn something new. Any production numbers?
Dissapointing there is no engine modifacations done, at least the suspension was tweaked and who wouldn't love a dogleg for Christmas
No offence but is that pinstripping right above the kidney grill favoring one side? If JPS was a real playa he would have straightned that shizzle out ;)
umeric 11-09-2004, 08:20 PM Hello all,
Thanks for the kind welcome.
Im glad you llike my car also :)
RE: JPS.
Mine are 15 inch wheels for some reason not 13. but im ok with that. :)
I have removed the Gold strips, they were just a little 'Bling Bling' for me.
It looks alot tigher now I think.
Also my understanding is they made 150 of them.
Ash.
ichiwan2 11-10-2004, 11:11 AM John Player was a cigarette manufacturer that used to sponsor race cars. Don't remember what type races, probably F1. I think they also did a Lotus Elite in JPS livery.

jjgbmw323 11-11-2004, 09:06 AM I like you car.
Back in the day when I was very young I had a JPS special formula 1 car,
It was all black and gold.
I think I still have it somewhere and you car is similar to that F1,
with the black and gold. Your recaros would be very nice if you reulpostered them.
Congrads on a nice ride,
Joe
scase318i 11-11-2004, 06:33 PM I had one of these as my first car but sadly it was only a look alike. They were raced as a 635?Big ugly car, also (i think that was the type) I had a magazine with them on it, and they had a big JPS on the middle of the bonet aswell. They were known as the most immaculate race cars of the day from what i have read.

Your kidding me, you think a 635 is a "Big ugly car" :lol
TheNeek 11-11-2004, 07:20 PM I sure hope the land shark guys don't frequent this board.
umeric 11-12-2004, 01:34 AM V postive feedback on my car + great welcomes, Thanks again.

scase318i 11-15-2004, 06:26 PM Sure personally the front looked great but when i went around to the back i just didnt like what i was seeing. It was to flat between the rear window and trunk.
KevRC4130 11-15-2004, 07:01 PM Looks awesome. I first saw the picture of the gold wheels and thought 'yuck', but then I saw the picture of the whole car and it was just amazing. The gold wheels with the gold details just looks great. The dual exhaust is rad as well.
