OK, so I had a decently productive weekend. I went to TOWN on the interior of the car, or at least what was left of it. The carpet is now totally removed. No padding, no even the little pieces over the kick panels. There is still the thermal patches there, that I'm leaving in case I do drive the car long distances again (canyon runs, Bimmerfest '05, '06, etc, etc....). But otherwise it is ALL gone. I then decided that this would be the PERFECT time to reinstall the stereo I had removed after Bimmerfest this year, mainly so that I could have SOME sort of music, esp if I were to happen to be on a canyon run and be forced to drive in the back as rear radar protection, basically being bored off my @ss (I was supposed to be doing that this past weekend on an exotic car canyon run). And while I was doing that, I HAD to hard wire the V1 into the car, since I do not have a cig lighter to supply power to the V1 anymore. The stereo is some old Sony Xplode tape deck that was in the '81 when I got it ages ago, and everything that went with it. This is JBL speakers up front, Cerwin Vega's in the back, and a 8in Bazooka in the trunk. I'll get some pics of all of this in a bit and try to post them soon (home computer still SNAFU). The tube sits neatly under the cross bar of the TEP Rear Shock Tower Brace. It is almost like they KNEW someone was going to do this.
The only hitch I've run into with all of this was that the carpet seems to have been soaking some stuff up. There is a water leak on the pass side that I think may be from the AC hardline holes in the firewall. I am running the battery cable through there now, but it doesn't totally seal the grommet. There may be another place water is coming in on that side, though, not sure. Doesn't matter though since I am going to be parking this car in the garage and to help encourage me NOT to drive it in the rain, I've removed the wiper arms (tried for the motor too, but couldn't get it out, got frustrated and gave up for the weekend). I have also discovered that the previous owner was NOT being fed a line when he was told that the clutch master cylinder is getting ready to go. It seems the carpet was also soaking up the fluid leaking from it. I hadn't known, since it isn't too large of a leak (IMO). The car is still driveable (obviously), but I don't know for how long. I've been thinking that I ~may~ try and see if the M3's cylinder will work, but don't REALLY need to do that if I can get something cheap (new, rebuilt, used, whatever). It just sorta sucks that I've got a tiny puddle of Super Blue under the pedal right now though. But I WILL be ready to go by the next autoX, which I think will be in Feb.
