View Full Version : Will tint fail inspection?
dmurray14 11-08-2004, 11:01 PM Ok guys I live in NJ where tint is apparently illegal on the front windows. My car has a moderate tint all around, that's how I bought it. Are they going to fail me on inspection? Should I just leave the windows down? ;)
Thanks,
Dan
dcardenas 11-08-2004, 11:26 PM It'll fail.
BimmerDude18 11-09-2004, 12:20 AM FAIL!!!!
Sorry had to be an ass.
This one seems simple. Law says no tint you have tint.....am I missing something? :rolleyes
Daved 11-09-2004, 01:56 AM Just hand a couple hundred to the guy... :devillook ;)

Heh, I don't know if that will work..they are real jerks around here...
I wonder if I can just leave the windows down and take out the fuse or something... :)
1996 328ti 11-09-2004, 09:35 AM Someone in NJ won't take a bribe?
Things sure have changed since I lived there.
I wonder if you would do better to get the car inspected in Northern Joisey.
I remember in NY an inspection station handing me the sticker without ever seeing the car. And that was a Chevy Corvair! That thing should not have passed inspection from the factory.
themadhatter 11-09-2004, 09:40 AM it'll fail if you go to a state facility. go to a private place and you'll be fine unless you have limo tint or the guy is a tool.

bebedivine 11-09-2004, 03:27 PM where in south jersey do you live? i had the same problem as u did, but i found a place that sold me the sticker for 70 dollars...
hot28i 11-09-2004, 08:54 PM listen i am not going to say nothing about the location but hit me up or email me i will take car of it for you ... :evil2
ghatz69 11-10-2004, 12:43 AM its guaranteed to fail with tint. my friend bought a used car from the dealrership, went and had it inspected at a state inspection facility and failed. just go to a private place. your gonna have to pay a few bucks but at least you have the tint
Cereal Killa 11-12-2004, 03:50 PM Just had my 5er fail today for front tint :mad
hot28i 11-13-2004, 04:10 PM :D :rolleyes :D
Grey Phox 11-14-2004, 02:31 PM Im getting tints all around soon. Inspection isn't what has me on edge. The cops up here are major pricks. Be careful! Hopefully the cops around you aren't like the ones up here.
stylzs 11-14-2004, 03:13 PM u will fail unless u go to those private garages and pay like $80.........also good luck wit tints in the front down the jersey shore, those cops are deal a holes down there and just pull u over for tints.....and if u have the windows down, there gonna pull u over and ask u to roll them up...and if there tinted, u get a ticket

Where are you in Norther NJ....I am trying to decide on tint but dont want to be hassled for it.
I am thinking 35% all around... :dunno What do you think??
Hey Ron,
What tint are you running again??? Thanks.
-Richard
themadhatter 11-14-2004, 05:23 PM Richard,
I have 35% all around and with the new black interior, it looks a bit darker but still acceptable to my standards.

Black interior?? when did that happen? Vaders or what kind of seats did you get?
I think i might get 35% all around when I am home next week...you should stop by Rogue...I should be hanging around there while I am home.
Where is a good tinting place nearby..do you know?
-Richard
themadhatter 11-14-2004, 07:38 PM personally, I find vadars to be uncomfortable though they are very attractive. I purchased a complete black interior from another 323is. now my seat heaters work again. :stickoutt
can't stop by Rogue, I'm in Africa till about new years. believe me, I wish I was in the USA right now, I'm going to miss all the snow! :(
hit up Tropic Window Tinting in Union. they did mine a few years ago and it came out pretty good. They are a window tinting shop only, not a car wash etc but then again, I've seen car washes do a pretty good job. :dunno
one thing though; the very edges on the top of the glass were the window meets the gasket - the tint has chipped away over the 5 years that I've had the tint. Lifetime warranty though so I'll probably get it replaced in January when I'm not busy.

Rav3Cultre 11-29-2004, 12:09 AM I live in Northern NJ.. I went to about 6 places to see if they would pass my 35% all around, none of them would. I offered more money, the works. I even had one of my cop buddies say it was ok, to no avail. Apparently they get their licenses suspended for a year, plus a $6,000.00 fine if they illegally pass a car. I ripped mine off myself (the fronts), and used some paint thinner and a razor blade to get the glue off.
Get them re-tinted for $100.00 or so, and you save $100.00 for removing them yourself. Just make sure you get them retinted by the people who did the back ones too.
it'll fail if you go to a state facility. go to a private place and you'll be fine unless you have limo tint or the guy is a tool.

That was my experience.
