Hello -

Just purchased my first BMW, and this is my first posting in this forum. It's a 2001 4.4 X5 CPO. Runs great and so far I am loving it.

I bought the car on Saturday, and on Sunday "Engine Maintainance Soon" (or similar message, can't remember exactly what it says) yellow light came on.

I was just wondering aren't CPO vehicles supposed to just have been fully checked? I wonder what I should do here.

Thank you in advance for replying.

I'm not sure about this but check your gas tank cap... If the cap is not securely on, I read on this forum it can trigger a warning light. It has something to do with the Oxygen sensor.

Fully checking CPO cars can vary from dealer to dealer.. some are thorough and some not. When i picked up my CPO I noticed it had 3 nails in the rear tire.

Yes I agree. I noticed on my navigation there were old addresses, and Universal Garage opener had not been reset either.

I'll check the gas tank cap - thanks for replying.

A loose gas cap should only trigger the "check engine" light. If your lights read something like "service engine soon", then it's due for routine service. Depending on the mileage and how it has been driven, it could be as simple as an oil, filters (air and oil), and some alignments/checks. If it is higher miles, it may also need new plugs and other service items. In either case, the dealer SHOULD have taken care of these on a CPO vehicle that was almost due for the services and reset the service indicator lights...you should ask them, though...they may have done the service and just forgot to reset the lights...
