Are there any local shops that anyone can recommend??

Cycle City. There are a few bike shops on Nimitz, and of course the big new one on Lagoon Drive. I bought my helmet there and the guy seemed used to auto guys going in for helmets. Also there is a shop in Pearlridge that carries HJC helmets...which is a cheaper brand, but it meets the standards it needs to.

I got mine from Andy's on Middle street. They repair motorcycles, and sell helmets. I got an Arai, but of course that was big bucks. But I felt my head was worth it! He also has open face ones, which is probably better for breathing, but bad for a crash. Andy is a great guy, and does not push. Worth checking his stuff out.

I have an open face for visbility and comfort, but, yeah, I read a full face is better. However knowing me I wouldn't put the face shield down so... :rolleyes
