Anyone here used their service shop?
I'm thinking of giving these guys a try.
They're not cheap but if they're good, it's worth it to me.
Plus I can get a couple of dyno runs done too at the same time. :D

I've orderd a sparco strut bar from them, that's about it. Didn't have any problems.

There known to do everything right... but service costs a grip. Also you may have to wait a while depending on what you wan't done. They get pretty busy with project cars and what not.

they charge you the same as the stealer...for parts and labor...

OK, thanks. I know they charge around $80 an hour.
That's more or less what any good shop will charge you anyway--
dealers, Bimmer's Clinic, GT International, M Shop, etc...

I'll give them a try.

What kind of work did you want to get done on your car?

80 an hour at evosport? that's not too bad, but then again, they can probably just inflate their time so that it costs more. There are plenty of shops out there that do good work for cheaper

I prefer GT International, Unless you want some serious mods done. Also, the last time i was at Evosport they charged book rate time for most stuff. So whatever the book says it will take to do it is the amount of time they charge times whatever their labor rate is.

Yeah, GT International is a good shop.
I had my last I2 done there and John's a nice guy.
They aren't exactly cheap, though. And from what I've heard,
they don't allow you to supply the parts. Is this true?
BTW, KnightRider, $80 is pretty much standard for a top shop in LA.
If you can find me a shop in LA (the city itself) with lower rates
and equal reputation to GT International, for example,
I'd love to hear about it.

There's a bunch of work the car needs that I've been putting off,
some of it maintenance, and some upgrades.
I'll probably end up droping 2 or 3K when everything is said and done, but what needs to be done, needs to be done.

All in all, there's really not that much of a difference in price
to choose one over the other-- evosport did quote me 2 hours for
a leakdown and compression test, plus $75 for three dyno runs.
Seems OK to me... :dunno Only problem is they're all the way down
in Huntington Beach. Guess I can bring my surfboard along...

They hosted a dyno day that I went too, I was impressed with their service and shop.

i would personally recommend bullet performance in costa mesa. all of the techs there are UTI grads, and they only specialize in BMW, and they also do aftermarket installation on their automobiles as well, very very reputable place.

Damn 80/hour is a very good rate. Our dealer is currently at 98.22/hour. Most dealers up north are just over 100/hour.

I'm not sure, but I don't think it takes 2 hours to do a compression and leakdown test. :dunno

The guys at car emporium in garden grove do good work.

That's nice to hear. I don't mind paying top $ for top service.
To me it's worth it.

Yes, I've heard a lot of good things about them.
It's probably the only reputable shop near LA I haven't been to.
I know there's another one, but I forget the name.
The only thing is Costa Mesa is like an hour south of LA, right? :(

LOL. Yeah, I read your thread. I've driven the Elise in Europe, but not the US version with the Toyota engine.
The Esprit I gave up on since it's too much of a headache.

It turns out that my brother in law will be receiving his Elise sometime in February. Since he also has a 911 TT, I'm debating at this point
whether to buy the Elise from him used (he only keeps his cars for a year or so), buy the E46 M3 with the ZCS CS package
or put my money where my mouth is and step up to the plate and buy his 996 TT :devillook

I gotta tell you, though. After driving a 996 911 TT, everything else is pretty much depressing.
We'll see... Either way I need to decide by March.

Lets just put it this way, if I were ever to do cams, that is the only place in SoCal I would take my car or make the long drive up so SIAS and have it tuned, but EVOSPORT knows their stuff, if it is something simple, you probably don't need to shell out the big bucks, but if you want it done right, I would go there.

Great service but extremely overpriced IMO.
Bullet has one top notch service aswell and probably cheaper than evosport.
I spoke with the new manager at evosport about a swap and he just threw the price in the sky(12k without motor or any parts, just labor) and meantioned that he had a ferrari in there doing a tune-up and it was more expensive than the swap I wanted to do, WTF??? I don't own a fucking ferrari, bullet quoted me 4-5k depending on complications and so did autowerkes.
IMO the new evosport manager is a snob/prick.

Good Morning,

Well, I have good news for the San Diego BMW community, I have had a great experience with an independent shop called Apex Engineering just off Clariemont Mesa BLVD and the 163.

I have always wondered why BMW does not have an oil cooler for the US spec M3 and why kits are so hard to find, so I put together one of my own and finally found a shop that could do the custom work justice.

Ben and his team at Apex Engineering may have taken their time but they certainly exceeded my expectations. I will have a full tech write up next week with pictures, but if you have ever wanted a great oil cooler for your M3 or E36, I highly recommend them.

PM me if you want more details or can not wait for the official tech write up with pictures!

Evosport is a ***** rip off :rolleyes They are an H&R distributor so I asked them to give me their best prices on 2 coilover kits, and install. I asked them for the standard H&R c/o and RSS club sport for my M roadster. I already have a good idea on what im willing to pay, because I have about 5-6 different quotes. I asked evosport, because they are a much bigger/larger store and they are a H&R distributor, so I figured they might be more flexible on pricing. I was very wrong :nono They are a complete rip off, I will never give my business to Evosport in the future. I had told them I already got several quotes from much smaller tuner shops, I told them I will be paying everything full in cash and they said they'll take care of me. Those tools at Evosport quoted me $1500 for the regular set up and $1700 for the RSS, I will not disclose the pricing I got from other places, but lets just say I am furious at the pricing he gave me. They are literally trying to bend me over and stick it up my a$$. :rolleyes :mad They also quoted me install because I told them that if I purchased these from them, I would get them installed there as well. They quoted me $570 for the install, :eyecrazy at $80 an hour, thats almost 6 hours of labor they are trying to charge. I am not sure if this included alignment (probably didnt include it, those fukin crooks) , but even still, alignment will cost $100-150 max, its not like they are corner balancing my car. Lets say they included it, it still doesnt take 4-5 hours to install c/o's. EvoSport is complete BS, if you like getting ur a$$hole raped, go there by all means. Their pricing for everything is just ridiculous, unless your a star, millionaire, or just like and dont care about getting raped, I would stay away from there. There are lots of reputable shops in So. cal, to pay for what they are asking is just crazy. Lets just say, I can get the c/o's brand new, installed and alignment done at another place, for about the price of what they quoted on the c/o's alone. Unless I have a friend or hookup at evosport, I will never go there. They lost me as a customer.
