Finally got all those nagging little dents taken out. Paint job next. Anyone know a good paint shop at a reasonable price?

Yeah, the house was built in the 50's. That was the style. Some of my neighbors have pink tubs and some powder blue. Putting a big corner jacuzzi tube. Yeah baby!

I seen people get good results from Maaco paint shops. Usually they have some cheapo offers but go for the more expensive you can affrd, it means you will be getting good paint like Glasurit or PPG/BASF.....Since you did most of the body work you saved money, and if you bring the car in without emblems, side markers, anything they have to mask, the paint job will look better

My tub before I remodeled was a cast, powder blue one.
I tried to break it with a sledgehammer, and I live on the 4th floor, i could not break it inside the bathroom.

I got a freind to help me toss it out. Then I broke it up.:)

As for paint jobs you get what you pay for.
I would not use Maco on your car unless you had too.
How much are you looking to spend?
thanks
Joe

I've been getting quotes for $3500, I don't want to spend that much. Wife, three kids, mortgage, remodeling bathroom, landscaping backyard. I'm looking to get a better paint job then Maaco or Earl Schreib but not spend $3500. $1000 - $1500

Are you going to strip it down, ie mouldings, all rubber, lights, bumpers, etc?

I know of a good shop in Whittier that will do it for about that price, but I wouldnt paint a car unless it was stripped, I got this thing about cars being painted with all the rubber being sprayed on or just masked off. If your not taking the rubber off there is a cool trick of sticking some rope under the front and rear glass to make it look tits, you cant even tell the seals were left on during paint

Whittier is about 30 miles from me so I'm looking for some where closer, I live in the San Fernando Valley. I will all take the rubber off.

What do you mean rope under the front and rear window?

:buttrock This works! What you do is it gets the seal up higher/off of the paint, so when you get the car back from paint, you can take the rope out and the rubber comes back down and hides the paint line.

Helps avoid overspray and the looks of a line of paint coming right up to the rubber line.

I'll ask my buddy for you. He works at a body shop supply store, he would know a good shop for you, he recommended one for me, and I was pleased.

Anyone know the size and material of the rope? :D :stickoutt

I got my car painted at Maaco and it turned out great for what I paid. The quality from them varies from location to location and the one near me is known to be pretty good. I did almost all the prep myself, srtipped everthing I could off the car and got the first level in cost of urethane paint. It is not show quality but then again I paid $800 or so (I too have the whole wife, mortgage, kids thing).

Yes, I have quite a few. I tried to attach one but it is too big. I'll resize the pic and try again here. As you can see - Maaco puts more effort into the top flat sufraces and the sides a a touch "fuzzy". I am going to try giving it a buff to bring up some more gloss.

if you really want a good paint job like a show car finish, try PJ Bonifacio. They are located in Valley Blvd, City of Industry. They have a very good reputation. They charge $2,500 and they will remove everything: moldings, engine, etc...

Just remember show quality is a whole different ballgame than a nice paint job. Show paint jobs just begin to start at the $7,000 range and up. My uncles 64 and a half Mustang has a $20,000 paint job, and you can call it show.

teyster320 buffing wont help all that much, Maaco proly didnt color sand your car so buffing might make it more reflective but it wont take away the "fuzz" or orange peel. You will most likely need to polish it drastically with some 3M compound and a buffing wheel

Buffing was probably technically wrong. I am using a mild compound and an orbital buffer under the strict guidance of a friend that does high-end chopper air brush work www.sweetaircustompaint.com. I didn't want to go through the effort and risk of color sanding since it is a driver not a trailer queen.

That 'stang is outstanding. The shot of the hood is really amazing.

Well I guess it's not "full", its an auto but it will still make you fear for your life. Estimated 500hp NA on pump gas

Well, I polished the car over the long weekend with Meguiars fine cut cleaner (#2) and a microfiber bonnet on an orbital buffer, waxed after. Not a dramatic difference but very noticable. Took out a bunch of the fine scratches and brought up the gloss especially in the areas where the paint quality was not great. I could have probably used the next more agressive compound but wanted to be "safe".
It's still no Mustang.
