View Full Version : Edge Motorworks Gauge kit group buy? SupaBimma 11-02-2004, 04:05 AM hey guys, i was wondering if there would be enough guys interested in a Edge motorworks gauge kit group buy? i am very interested in the kit but would like to buy it at a lower price than $409. thanks Balthazarr 11-02-2004, 06:12 AM what about the Umnitza kit for $299? With a GB, can probably be had for less. SupaBimma 11-03-2004, 03:56 AM where is the umnitza kit? black_box 11-03-2004, 12:54 PM I think I PM'd umnitza or asked in a thread, but they aren't selling the gauge kit. If you notice, they've had the pre-order page up for over a year. SupaBimma 11-04-2004, 06:01 AM just my luck Erik@EDGE 11-04-2004, 09:31 PM Guys, get 10 people signed up and we'll sell them at $389 for the full kit (Oil Temp/Pressure/Water Temp) with Tstat housing, odb, etc. OR $369 for Oil Temp/Pressure/VoltMeter Customer may choose from AutoMeter or VDO Gauges. We can take care of the payment and everything directly. Let's say 10 people signed up by Friday the 12th of November? orlandoD 11-04-2004, 10:19 PM bump for a good kit. snk328is 11-04-2004, 10:38 PM I may be interested in this... 97 MPWR 11-05-2004, 09:36 AM me too...been meaning to add this kit for quite some time. m3 cabrio 11-05-2004, 03:13 PM I'm in! StealthBimmer 11-05-2004, 05:25 PM can we get cf autometer gauges? 95RogueM3 11-05-2004, 05:40 PM How hard is it to have an A/f Gauge hooked up? I might be interested in the oil temp, oil press, and A/F gauge kit in Carbon Fiber. Depending upon the cost of installing whatever sender is needed for the A/F sensor. -Richard M34sale 11-06-2004, 01:01 AM I'm interested in the Oil Temp/Pressure/VoltMeter kit Guys, get 10 people signed up and we'll sell them at $389 for the full kit (Oil Temp/Pressure/Water Temp) with Tstat housing, odb, etc. OR $369 for Oil Temp/Pressure/VoltMeter Customer may choose from AutoMeter or VDO Gauges. Erik@EDGE 11-06-2004, 12:05 PM I think we could do them at $300 if we had about 2500 orders....These kits aren't cheap parts-wise, and they take time to put together. Hornswoggler 11-06-2004, 12:52 PM Can I see a picture of the AutoMeter vs VDO Gauges? I can't tell which is which from the EDGE website. I would want whatever ones blend best into the dash. I don't want the white gauges. And let me get this straight: The group buy would only save $10 per set, right? I'm not complaining, just trying to get an idea of what this opportunity means. Thanks! SupaBimma 11-06-2004, 04:45 PM actually its roughly $20 savings, its not much but still its savings, if it was $379 shipped we'd probably get more buyers. I am definately in for the autometer white/alu ring kits for Oil temp, pressure, water temp. count me in. Balthazarr 11-06-2004, 05:24 PM I'll make up my own instead...bound to be a lot cheaper. jmargo 11-06-2004, 05:55 PM I'll make up my own instead...bound to be a lot cheaper. If you dont want to get in on the group buy thats cool. Just don't crap on its price. :nono By the time you gather all the parts, modify your sunglass holder(without the angle) and wire it you might save a couple bucks. But waste time. This kit if for the person who wants a complete package with a pre built wire harness. Ready to instal with the correct senders and a oil block. Heck I've seen the kit and the instal book that comes with it. Its so easy my kid could instal it. Hornswoggler 11-06-2004, 07:11 PM Count me in for the GB if it happens. Thanks! Soup Nazi 11-06-2004, 07:26 PM INNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNN.. Has to be Air Fuel, Boost, Oil Temp... Let me know when it goes down! 1995red318i 11-06-2004, 11:11 PM is the price shipped? mcclaskz 11-07-2004, 04:16 PM I am very interested in temp/press/temp. Erik@EDGE 11-09-2004, 11:50 AM Thanks guys, you are almost there. Price is not shipped, unfortunately, shipping isn't cheap either as we go to great lengths to make sure they arrive in one piece. You can see the gauges at www.summitracing.com or egauges, just pick a style. The one that is closest to the factory look is the VDO Vision series. FWIW we make no money on the gauges, there simply isn't any margin in them. Keep in mind that NOBODY on the market has an angled face bezel to point the gauges at the driver. Without this feature, you can't see the Autometer Gauges. VDOs are OK because they have such a shallow bezel, but the deep bezel on the autometers means you have to have the angle or they are useless. I am travelling this week and will pull together all the confirmed folks next weekend. If we have hit the number, I will email you each individually to confirm which gauges you want, which order you want them in, shipping and payment info. Thanks snk328is 11-09-2004, 12:38 PM Will you guys be able to make a bezel that will fit in the slot where the factory radio goes in? Also, which brand gauge is the best? slcook54 11-09-2004, 01:16 PM I'm tentative. Mistermotorist 11-09-2004, 03:18 PM I have the Edge gauge set up with VDO oil temp, oil pressure and volts. I am very happy with the look, performance and peace of mind that I get by knowing what's up as far as my engoine is concerned. I paid retail and would have quite willingly participated in a GB! Erik@EDGE 11-10-2004, 02:10 AM The AutoMeters are less damped, i.e. they react more quickly. I also like their variety. VDOs are the closest match to factory, although the AutoMeter Z series are sweet also. I have a radio plate in my car, but its press fit, so they are not quite ready for prime time. SupaBimma 11-10-2004, 02:25 AM i like the autometer white/alu ring setup, looks very nice. any word up GB update? snk328is 11-10-2004, 09:23 PM The AutoMeters are less damped, i.e. they react more quickly. I also like their variety. VDOs are the closest match to factory, although the AutoMeter Z series are sweet also. I have a radio plate in my car, but its press fit, so they are not quite ready for prime time. I would prefer to have the gauges in the radio slot, because I will be using it for my race car (SCCA ITS/JP). So if I can be a beta tester for that bezel/plate when this group buy goes green, that would be great! As for the gauge choices, can we choose any VDO/Autometer gauges that we can see at http://www.egauges.com/vdo_main.asp or do we only have a choice between a specific VDO model and a specific Autometer model? mcclaskz 11-10-2004, 10:52 PM I second this kit for the radio slot. I would prefer VDO guages. Erik@EDGE 11-10-2004, 10:57 PM Any gauges are fine. Please keep in mind that we are optimized for either oil temp/oil press/water temp or oil temp/oil press/volt from a wiring harness, ODB perspective. We'll put any kit together for you (try that somewhere else). We will contact each of you individually to make sure we are meeting your needs. Any price variance we can discuss at that time. As for the Radio slot, That's what I have in my car, so it looks/works pretty well. I am not satisfied with the current quality for general availability, but I think we can rectify that pretty quickly. I will get on that next week. PacketPuppy 11-11-2004, 07:05 AM Erik, Count me in for the VDO Vision w/ oil temp/oil pressure/water temp. Thanks. nordique14 11-12-2004, 02:28 AM Here are some pics of my new gauges installed by Edge on Wed night. They are VDO water temp/oil temp/oil pressure. Very nice. Gordon at Edge is a great guy. This was my first experience with Edge and I can't say enough good things about them. Highly recommend them and the work they do. You won't be disappointed. PacketPuppy 11-12-2004, 02:31 AM Looks great... So can we call and get the GB rate now or do we have to wait? nordique14 11-12-2004, 02:42 AM I had an appointment setup before the group buy, so I'm not part of the GB. Wouldn't want to wait anyway. :) SupaBimma 11-12-2004, 03:56 AM im still up for it, any news? Hornswoggler 11-12-2004, 09:38 AM $10 ain't worth waiting around and the trouble of organizing. Just buy the stupid gauge kit at your own convenience. Seriously, what's $10? Erik@EDGE 11-12-2004, 11:57 AM Its $30. And I will be contacting each of you next week (prob monday) as I am travelling right now. We'll square on what you want and get it shipped or built if its more custom. The Radio Slot units will take 1-2 weeks to get right (this is a swag) and we'll work something special out for you guys as the cost is a little different (no sunglass holder, less assembly, etc) m3nomad 11-12-2004, 03:28 PM nordique14 mentioned getting the gauges installed at your shop. I'm in the Bay area and would be interested in this deal if I can get it installed. How much would that be? 97 MPWR 11-13-2004, 01:18 AM I think it's time for me to finally take the plunge...I've only wanted this setup for the last 3 years. Erik@EDGE 11-13-2004, 12:08 PM Well, it takes us 2-2.5 hours for install at $85 an hour (imagine what it will take you :) ). Not too enticing, so how about 1.5 hours or a rounded $125? 97MPWR, its about time! Look for PMs from me over the weekend and into next week. Thanks everyone for you interest! They have a white faced series called "Phantom" but they have a black ring. Erik@EDGE 11-15-2004, 01:34 PM OK gents, I sent PMs to all those who expressed specific interest. SNK and Mclask, you guys are cool, the radio slot thing is in the works, may be a week or two, but we are working on a slick solution. Your pricing will hold. Erik@EDGE 12-06-2004, 09:14 PM Radio slot is still in the works, tried out one design this weekend in Gordon's car, seems to be working, though its a bit ugly at the moment. Thrasherlife 12-12-2004, 04:31 AM Ahh...after 9 hours of work its finally done (note I am extremely novice). Had a few trials and tribulations. After that I realized I didn't have the 24mm nor the 32mm combi wrench (doh! should have checked that before i started...like i said...novice). That 32mm combi wernch was a pain to find, went to three stores and finally found it at sears. After that everything went fine. I also changed the thermostat per Gordon's reccomendation and also did a coolant flush. Last problem I ran into was I had pulled off one of the radiator hoses to get the fan on/off and forgot to hook it back up ...Now for those that don't know...this is very very bad. I ended up sparying 2 gallons of coolant an water all over my engine bay, luckily i noticed before i had driven too far and was able to get a family member to bring me more coolant and water (Definitely could have been worse). Ahh...what a long day. Now that the guages are in and working, I realized that i don't know what the "normal" operating ranges should be. Anyone have any ideas? I'll try to post pics later. Thrasherlife 12-12-2004, 06:09 AM you can find them from craftsman...i'm sure there are plenty of places you could get it from online...the 32mm just isn't a common size for stores to carry i guess. Erik@EDGE 02-11-2006, 10:45 AM Sorry folks, the last "group" buy concluded with exactly ONE order. That was after a dozen or so people said they were in. Due to the expansion of our shop and because we are so busy (thankfully!!) we can no longer offering our gauge kits. If you absolutely, positively have to have one, call us...we can work something out. Erik@EDGE 02-11-2006, 10:45 AM Sorry folks, the last "group" buy concluded with exactly ONE order.
