$18,300

Byzanz is copper/orange/brown color that was only available on 97 M3 sedans for a limited number of production months. Hence the car is a rare find. What makes it even more rare is that over 50% of sedan M3s produced had auto transmissions. This car is a 5 speed manual. To find one thats Byzanz with a manual can be tough to do. The car has 59k on it, and is from Seattle WA. The car is currently located in Salt Lake City Utah. The car is basically stock, with a few minor exceptions:

-uuc tuned spring set
-motorsport x brace
-uuc tranny mounts with enforcers (red)
-ground control rear shock mounts
-ground control rear swaybar links
-oem lit shift knob, acs ebrake handle, cf glovebox trim
-smoked light set (oem amber included as well)

Factory Options:

-sunroof
-contour II
-Keyless entry
-HK sound
-6 disc changer
-lux package (power seats & windows, wood trim, chrome doorpulls, cruise)
-heated seats
-full obc

The car is in great shape, and there are many here who would testify to that fact. I am selling this car because we are having a new baby, and I just cant afford both. (though I would rather sell the baby, no question) I have a few interested parties at this time, but post this here for the first one to hand me the money, takes the car. In the interest of honesty, I will know list what the car needs. (though I will not be discounting for these items, as the car is discounted 2500 off book as is)

Look, if you look at autotrader.com, a 1997 M3 manual sedan with similar mileage will be listed from $17K - $23K, with most falling above the asking price for this car.

If you like the car but pass on it because of the color, that's one thing, but the car is priced in line with similar cars.

seriously. To the assbag that wrote the scathing post about the color of the car, you need to get a life. Why the hell are you trolling around on here telling someone with a nice sedan that the color sux. I personally think it is one of the nicest colors ever painted on an e36.

If it was sitting right next to your estoril (which is extremely common and IMO, overrated) I'd take the Byzanz in a heartbeat, no question.

Byzanz is one sexy color. I'm sort of in the market for an //M but a coupe and in techno :cool . If I didn't already have a sedan I'd jump all over this. Bump for a sweet car and color though. and Congrats on the new baby.

For those interested, people like me would buy that car off you in a heartbeat for even a higher price, but at a later time. timing is everything, isn't. i love ur car, ben...and i wish my timing could be better.

You didn't mention so in your ads, but you should call out the tasteful mod of the steering-wheel roundel insert...or your smoked roundel emblems all around.

I'm not a fake buyer... I sold my '96 M3 with 40k miles about 6 months ago.. I bought a WRX and I've hated this car since. I'm looking to get out of the WRX and back into a BMW. I may just buy an old e30 for a daily driver until I can find a nice 3.2 to swap into it... or I'll just buy another m3 :) I've always loved byzanz it's my 2nd fav behind techno-violet (which my m was)....

To those that "think" they've seen a non E36 M3 car that's Byzanz: You probably think that the previous gen. civic blue is the same as estoril blue. Byzanz is one of those colors that pictures willl never due justice..never. Call it brown and you're just a dumbass. Call it metallic orange...you're looking at one angle of light refraction & simplifying it. Call it bronze-copper...you're getting closer. It's pretty wild on a non-overcast day. I've seen two byzanz m3s in my lifetime...both were auto. Before then, I thought that non m3 e36s were produced in byzanz because sienna red & byzanz are similar to untrained eyes. Sooooo different now that i've seen a couple live.

SOMEONE BUY THIS AND STOP THE MADNESS!! I know others out there are w/ me on this...you'd be all over this car if time were on your side.

What significance does the "limited production" have? What does it represent?? They usually dont make just a few of one color for no reason.

My guess is still that there were production problems therefore it was halted. Myself working in the automotive production field have seen it happen many times with pigments the hue of Byzanz.

Yes it is a total guess, and I am not hinting anything. It is very likely though that there were problems. Doesnt make this a "bad" car, just makes it more interesting and unique.

In 1986 my dad ordered a new Corvette, Copper in color. The order was returned because they had production problems and they only built 4 of them in Copper, he then ordered medium blue..same story only 114 were built, finally settled for dark red.

I have worked for General Motors for several years and if any of our facilities have a problem with a certain paint color guess what??? It gets axed. When the Caddy CTS came out i remember a Copper Orange color that was discontinued as well as a Green. Paint issues are big $$$ problems for any manufacturer.

As far as "the rules" I am free to inquire about whatever I want. Maybe you should review the strict guidlines.

THe production was limited to one model year. It wasnt halted due to problems with the car, paint, or anything else.

First of all you do not determine whom can and can't post or look at your thread.

There is no "action" for you to take.

If not for production problems why was this a "limited production". Seems like since you own one you would research it and come up with a solid production figure as well as as the reason they only made x-# of these units. I mean does the color represent a moment in racing history? Was it a test of some sort?? Maybe they were trying to go for a female audience? Why would they make such a limited color???? They dont do it for no reason whatsoever.

Now that could be true....a couple years ago i asked my dealer if they could order me a 3 series convt in a light mettalic green color I saw at the Detroit International Auto Show.

They did everything to talk me out of, reccomending a more "normal" colr like silver, black, white.

The salesman insisted I would get sick of the color, and it would be impossible to sell it in the future.

Now we are getting somwhere

THe production was limited to one model year. It wasnt halted due to problems with the car, paint, or anything else.

I would be interested in buying it or one if there were some documentation stating the actual producton as well as the significance if any. It would have to be a really low # though

And also, I don't imitate M3's, I run circles around them, My car is a 325, I blew the tranny, got a good deal on a motor/tranny package, and did the swap, nowhere on my car does it say M3, not even the door moldings, not the trunk, and not the Vin#,

Actually I did e-mail several arms of BMW. And also found a couple of independant companies which track production figures and even can tell you how many people work at each plant. That is for any manufacturer.

So I have been doing my homework, just have not yet been able to find paint production figures....I am working on it. Not just to find info on the Byzanz color, but the information can be used for many applications.

Hoped that with all of the people involved with this forum that someone might have the info on hand or know where it can be found.

I know that for some classic chevy models there are books you can buy which show all of the options, colors and production figures for each..all the way back to the first one ever made.

So go run your Wanna3 in circles until it falls apart again, you must be some sort of engineer building a car better than BMW could. Have you applied for any positions with them recently?? Bet they would be interested to find out how you made your car so cool.

Well the M-Tech is still a stick..it just sits in the garage for the most part. I really enjoy looking at it...really nice furniture for the garage I must say.

I started a new thread in the e36 M3 section about the Byzanz, hopefully I can get somthing accompished for this matter as well as any future models that pop up that may be rare and unique...at least the ground work will set for inquiries, make things easier for those interested.

You see when I say about my car: there were only 150 built, I can also tell you why as well as back up my claims with documentation.

Now I will have you know that this is not the only rare BMW own, and not the only rare car I own, I have and have had many. I am not here trying to fight about it, I am into rare cars....that is my thing. I want to know more and thru my efforts everyone will benefit.

I can respect the M-technic, my mechanics have an amazing one as their shop car right now, The interior is the best part!
Like I said though, as far as Byzanz goes, I think it was limited because it was...well, ugly....I sent BMW NA an email, so hopefully they will furnish some sort of info, but I think there were about 4400 M3 sedans produced in 97, so take it from there.....

i think MT is like 12 years old. mabye his birth certificate will say otherwise, but from his demeanor and his posts, and his lame info on his profile... he has about the same mental progress as my slightly slow 12 year old nephew. i love that kid! Providing information? I am providing you with the information to drop it. Your 'providing of information' on production numbers of the color Byzanz has nothing to do with the actual sale of the car.
