Today, as I was going to work I drove on Calle De Barcelona (Encinitas two lane by two lane road, 45 mph speed limit) And it crosses with Rancho something or other...three lane by two lane road 45mph. So the crossroad is fairly busy, and regulated by a stop light.
I'm pulling up to this crossing, and the light turns yellow....remember I'm actually going the speed limit (lots and lots of cops around there) and I've got 100ft to go till the light, so I figured ok, I got plenty of time.
Low and behold! A kia pulls out as if they were simply going to cross the road (from the right to the left...they had a red light). Simultaneously someone is taking a right hand turn from the Rancho road without looking first.
Let me say at this point that I had the following...random thoughts...at the speed of light:
1st "HOLY F*CKING $HIT I'M GONNA DENT MY CAR!"...not I'm gonna get hurt, not....I'm gonna ram the other persons DRIVER door...no, my car comes first....I know how rediculous that is, but it gets better:
2nd "If the car is totalled, it's his fault, I'm gonna buy an M3...always look at the silver lining." Mind you, I still had about 20 feet...and the brakes were being hit. That's when I realize that I need to do something really fast.
And my body just did something without my mind really working properly. I swerve to the right, the ASC going into over drive, I hit the e-brake, and release the e-brake not a second later...the rear end breaks loose, I hit second gear from fourth, give it gas, 5,000 rpms (I'm pretty sure I did something horrible to the clutch, but hey, it was an emergency) my front corners barely go past the second car, my rear end swings the OTHER way and I'm free and clear, stopping at the stop light, looking back at the scene....everyone is as if nothing happened...except the kia, still wide eyed in the middle of the intersection.
At this point, I'd like to point out that BMW is the most awesome car company in the world (Not that I didn't know that before, I just got it confirmed once more). Secondly, I'd like to point out that, whatever is said about the eibach pro-kit, I think it rules.
I realize that this could've had DISASTEROUS consequences, and really, there was very little room for error on my part. Damn people are a little stupid on the road....Anyway, I'm still sweatin' I just had to get that off my chest.
