View Full Version : Do ALL E34 5's come with wood trim? How often if not... :dunno
EEEEeeee36 10-27-2004, 11:03 PM I've got a friend that's having a problem with some trim he bought, and the manufacturer said it's because they car they measured didn't have wood trim... personally, I've never seen a 5'r without wood trim, except M5, and his car is a '95 so that's a NO on the M5.. Is their story feasible? I even tried looking at eBay motors for pics and couldn't find one without wood.. :help :dunno
The Beastmaster 10-27-2004, 11:12 PM My 92 525iT does not have wood trim. Of course, I have leatherette seats in the Touring, too, but it still looks new after 12 years of wear and tear. I believe the wood trim was a part of the Premium Package.
Gunslinger 10-27-2004, 11:14 PM Mine does not have wood trim. It also has cloth seats. My car, although an A-spec car, was purchased in Europe and driven there for a while before coming over here. As a consequence, I also have various other oddities, such as German instructions on the toolkit.
For most cars, I think the lack of wood trim just means it didn't have the premium package.
EEEEeeee36 10-27-2004, 11:39 PM I just went through 47 E34's on Ebay - there were 6 1989 525i's where none had wood trim (maybe not an option that year? :dunno). Out of the 41 left from 1990-1995, only 6 DIDN'T have wood trim.. 1x 95, 1x 94, 2x 91, 1x 90 and 1x 89.. Between you guys do you think that your cars were odd-man-out so to speak? Have you mostly come across 5'rs with wood trim?
The Beastmaster 10-27-2004, 11:49 PM Maybe that makes our car rare and worth more! :D ;)
EEEEeeee36 10-27-2004, 11:54 PM :D Personally, I don't really like the wood trim, so I agree!! :alright. I replaced mine with brushed aluminum.. and this guy has a VERY nice Carbon Fiber kit.. but the company didn't say it wouldn't fit the recess from which the wood trim came out.. they made the kit for an E34 WITHOUT wood trim  by far, not the norm, especially in later years it looks like out of the 47 cars I looked at..from 1993 to 1995 there were 30 and only 2 didn't have wood!!
azvin 10-28-2004, 01:12 AM you guys talking about real or fake wood?

The original wood trim that came with the car - OE, I believe it is real, just epoxy-coated.
wyn525i 10-28-2004, 04:50 AM My '91 doesn't have wood, but still has the premium package.
No wood, cloth seats. Every other option available.
zmuff 10-28-2004, 08:30 AM 1989 535i, lots of options, leather, no wood.

delgadoduvidoso 10-28-2004, 12:29 PM I've owned two '89's and a '92. The '89's had no wood, while the '92 did. I beleive that wood started to be standard on the 535 starting in '90 and was optional on 525's until later on ('94?).
Man, I need to go dig up some of the old brochures and read up on this.
Out of curiosity what company did your friend get the CF kit from? It sounds very familiar to something I experienced several years back (bought a kit for my car, turned out not to fit, got charged a restocking fee even when the website said it would work for my car). The owner of the company came on a mesage board I particpated in way back when and became very rude to me and several others who had similar bad experiences with him.
shragon 10-28-2004, 01:28 PM i know on the 525i's, only those with the premium package had wood trim (and real leather).
jimmyz2 10-28-2004, 01:33 PM My GF loves wood. :devillook

Nah, pleather is too cheeky for BMW. They have to call it leatherette! I have that in the Touring and it still looks new after 12 years and 108k!

The company you had that experience with was probably a retailer/reseller. There are only 3 companies in the states that actually manufacture pure CF dash flat-kits. There are dozens of dealers, and hundreds of resellers. So, the reseller probably didn't want to deal with your friend. The guy my friend is working with is a dealer, and he is giving the manufacturer all Hell because of it... even threatening to do a charge-back to the manufacturer and never use that manufacturer again. My friend understands the problem and the dealer is helping him resolve it - very customer service oriented.
EEEEeeee36 10-28-2004, 11:35 PM Thanks everybody for postin' up. I think I got the general idea...earlier models didn't have it as often (89 didn't have it at all), and later models it was more standard, especially on 535's ... thank you!

nuke941 10-29-2004, 04:40 AM mine has leather and no wood either....
EEEEeeee36 10-29-2004, 11:05 AM mine has leather and no wood either....
Yours is a 1990... I think that was more common in earlier E34's. My buddies is a 95 - I've found that very few of the 1995's at all didn't have wood trim. So far I've seen that it was more common in later years, even on 525i's.. Thanks for jumping in!
