The Alpina parts i won are in transit. I was wondering if anyone here would be interested in buying my intake manifolds. They will be black with the blue/green Alpina logo as seen below.

This is what I am looking to replace it with. One set of these for each Cylinder bank.

While they look great, I fear it would sort of be like attaching the dreaded M badge to a non-M car...strictly taboo.

How much? and what are you replacing it with exactly?

Reed,

I understand where you are coming from, but I am trying to push the envelope, not win an "M" or "Alpina" Popularity contest. :rolleyes I think I can do it tastefully and still not rice it out. :D I try to make most of my designs and concepts compliment what the factory designers have done, and yet try to raise the bar slightly. while some may find it taboo, I guarantee the passengers will find it inspiring.

Auraraptor,

I have not gotten the pricing quote back for the Alpina Intake Manifolds yet, but I did find on the online ETK that the pair are a little over $1200. You can bet the Alpina ones are that much more since they are modified by Alpina to higher efficiency than stock. Also there are only 94 pairs of these in the world as I am told. I was looking somewhere around $1100-1200. Honestly I just wanted to see if someone was interested in buying them. They will sit in my garage anyway as I am planning to do the individual throttle body and velocity stack modification. I have the AutoCAD design software and have been playing around with setups and I believe I can make this work. I will probably do something similiar to the new M5 V10 plenum and intake setup with two plenums (one for each cylinder head) leading off into their own intake filter boxes. Everything will be backlit encased in a plexi window to show the marvels working within.

The approach I am trying for is a modern version of this intake setup shown below on the McLaren F1 V12 S70/2

I think he meant by putting it on HIS own car with nothing else modified it would be taboo.

Reed I disagree. Putting ///M7 is stating the car is a M7. Putting MParalells on a car is adding M parts, putting Alpina wheels is adding Alpina parts. Until you put the Alpina badge/enumeration on the car you are just adding parts. I don't know any specs on it other than what Justin ( who apparently has WAY too much $$) stated about the increased airflow but it would just be adding parts. IMHO
Just don't put the Alpina roundel on and congratulations would be in order.
In other words buy it.

Justin,
Nice stack on the 750!

I just said a few days back that I would love to get some of those manifolds because I'm sure they're worth a few ponies - now there is a set available and I just obliterated my budget buying a ton of other parts for the car. :mad

Thats cool Bread. I did not mean for it to come across in a bad way, it was meant in a more to each his own kind of thing.

Ibew595,
Thanks man. No problem on adding the Alpina Roundel. As far as the WAY too much $$ thing, I am not trying to piss away cash here. I am trying to find the most cost effective way to more HP and still have total originality. Anyone can slap a supercharger on the V8 and call it a day, but I cant see myself doing that. If things start to add up and I run out of cash I will just put it on hold till I can get to the next step. Should be fun when its all done.

I am sure you will have another opportunity in the future.

Speaking of crazy intake mods on the M73, I saw this pic of the Gruppe-M E39 M5 intakes on an Alpina B12 5.7. Thought you guys would like to see it.

Just curious, are they the equivalent of the DINAN INTAKE MANIFOLDS?
So you just swap the oems with these Alpina Intake Mans. like you do with the Dinan ones for a bit more grunt?

Jeff

Whoops, let me be clear on this. I was in no way trying to say anything negative about your work - I am watching closely and look forward to the finished project!

All I was saying was that slapping on ONLY the Alpina valve covers (which would be a purely cosmetic enhancement, I think) is akin to putting an M badge on a non-M car, IMHO.

Sorry that I was not clear...

Oh, and if they increase flow/HP then hell yes, completely kosher...!

I agree too. If there is a performance gain then I'd do it too. No different than adding a Dinan intake or a Remus exaust. If you wanted to put a badge on your car because of it then that's your choice.

What you are looking at is not actually the valve covers. It is the top of the intake manifolds. Each side where they are marked "ALPINA" (or BMW on the stock version) is a plenum that feeds into the runners that cross over to the cylinder on the other side. The valve covers are hidden under the intake manifold plenums and are a rather unremarkable stamped sheet metal covers.
