View Full Version : What have you guys heard about the split from F1 for 2008?
Glenn 328is 10-27-2004, 01:41 AM I just heard a blip on tv, but it involves BMW, Renault, McLaren and someone else. They were going to break away from F1 and start a new series. Does anyone know?? This is interesting... I will look for more info as well...
topspin 10-27-2004, 04:38 AM Basically, the constructors are pissed at all these bullcrap FIA rule changes. So instead of having to put up with the FIA and what not they figure they should make their own race series where they make the rules they want to run by.
There hasn't really been any official plans as far as i know, just talk and speculation.
The constructors contract wth the FIA runs for a few years until 2007 or 2008, and after that they may do this split.
Justin95GSR 10-27-2004, 08:50 AM I bet everyone except Ferrari will want to do it. And that's just fine, cuz I don't want them racing there anyways. They obviously spend way more money and time on testing because they have their own test courses. The others have limited testing time.... it's not an even playing field.
jimmyz2 10-27-2004, 11:44 AM It is offcial! The Grand Prix World Championship(GPWC) consortium made the announcement Tuesday 10/26/04.Every carmaker will bolt from Bernie!Includes BMW,Ferrari,Daimler/Chrys/Renault. :redspot

Oh my bad, Ferrari is going with them too....one of 2 things will happen. Bernie will give in and not go ahead with the planned changes, or the split will take place, and F1 will go down the tubes, with the BIG 4 splitting off. No one will want to see f1 anymore withough Ferrari, Renault, McLaren and williams. Plus Honda will probably go with them.
dhabes 10-27-2004, 08:57 PM My guess is that this may just be a bluff to see if Bernie changes his mind, but who knows. I know I certainly wouldnt car about F3000, I mean F1, if all those constructors left. The good thing about this series is that there would most likely be a pretty unanimous set of rules.
///MEric 10-27-2004, 09:20 PM If this happens and Max decided to continue with his planed rule changes F1 coudl become the unoffical starter series for the new chamianship
///Mpmp1025 10-28-2004, 01:20 AM i have a feeling that these teams r just blowing smoke bc the F1 heritage is so strong and deep to the begginning of these companies. even though it is a business, u still have to remember the past. Bernie needs to either step down or not change the rules so much. i really hope he goes with the later choice.
Ferrari does not have the biggest bank role on the grid. that honor goes to Toyota. all Ferrari's got is that theyre a great team with their act together and lots of experience. when i say expericence i mean in the winners circle. they also have great drivers that work really well with their team.

It all about TV money and rule changes. SLEC, which is owned by Bernie Ecclestone and German media companies EM.TV and Kirch, secured the commercial rights to the F1 for the next 100 years if I remember correctly.
Very little to the TV dollars make it to the teams. The teams have been threatening for years. The new series is just a ploy to get more money from SLEC/FIA etc. If all the teams do go, they really do not need the FIA or SLEC. The could form their own series, change the name and start over and neg. their own contacts for tv. I suspect a mutual agreement will be reached providing more money to the teams and some control over the rules and how they are changed.
Driverk 10-29-2004, 02:16 PM :nono Bernie really needs to loosen the reigns on his money. The teams barely get any of the TV money. For smaller teams like Jordan and Manardi, heck, even for the big teams, they need this money to keep racing. Considering all the rule changes that are about to take place, the smaller teams will barely be able to race. Very sad.
