Should I get a Cobra, Valentine, Whistler, or Uniden?

Does anyone here have any experience with using a radar detector? If so, how effective is it in sniffing out nearby cops who are on the prowl for speeders?

I'm in the market for one because a buddy of mine got busted for doing 70mph on 65mph highway. Can you believe that? It even says that he was going 70 on the ticket. He's going to dispute it in court, and I think he stands a pretty good chance.

i'm not sure how this ended up in the 7er forum specifically, but i will tell you that many members here (myself included) swear by the Valentine 1. the $400 cost is easy to justify since 1 speeding (or any other for that matter) ticket will negate that cost (fine, traffic school, premium, etc). i've had a V1 for 4 years now and just purchased another for my girlfriend's new car. the v1 has saved me from certain jail on numerous occasions.

i have the latest V1 along with a Uniden police scanner, Escort laser jammer and CB radio. i think this setup makes me almost invisible on the freeway =)

anyhow, do a search for "valentine" on this forum and i'm sure you'll turn up TONS of results about V1 vs Escort 8500, etc etc.

Both the V1 and the passport 8500 are excellent. Don't waste your $$$ on anything else.

I have an 8500 and it has saved my butt on countless occasions.

I did a pretty cool experiment with the 8500 and V1 last week. I even mapped it out. The V1 was a superior detector by a small margin when clocking against one of those K-band unattended radar trailers. I will be posting the complete story soon. Bottom line is that I sent the 8500 back and kept the V1.

I am a V1 owner. Tested the 8500 against it, resold the 8500 on Ebay.In my independent test, V1 detected earlier and I love the directional arrows and the bogey counter. Both very important pieces of info.

All that having been said, I got busted by instant on LASER several months back. Purely a timing issue... early in the morning and I was the first car in view of the policia once he decided to shoot. (I went to court and claimed a victory on this one).

So, I have installed the latest Lidatek system, and it has saved my but twice with laser.

Agree with comment above, I feel invisible with the V1/Lidatek combo.

So that's how you are able to justify your upgrades to your wife - "honey, we're really breaking even...!"

I'm running out of rooms to offer new furnishings for :rolleyes

Lately I have been prepping her about the possible need to return to Germany for a long weekend to effect Baby's shipment to the US...

She hasn't gotten back to me :rolleyes on that one yet...

...And where have you been??? If you get a little behind on the justification, here are some other notables:

"DAMN, the catalytic converters are shot. You know, I can replace the entire exhaust with an aftermarket system, and it will cost less than replacing the cats with BMW parts, and I 'll have enough left over to take you to dinner at _______"

"DAMN, my tires are worn out. You know, if I sell the original equipment (16" basketweave) wheels off this car on Ebay and combine that with the money I HAVE TO spend on new tires, I can get more than enough money to pay for a new set of aftermarket wheels and tires, and I 'll have enough left over to take you to dinner at _______"

"DAMN, my shocks are worn out. You know, I can replace the shocks AND springs an aftermarket system, and it will cost less than replacing just the shocks with BMW parts, and I 'll have enough left over to take you to dinner at _______"
