while i'm prepping the car for FI...going to upgrade clutch...

already driven:
Spec Stage 2
Spec Stage 3

but before i make my final decision i'd like to see how the Clutchmaster's feel...anyone in NJ got one installed on their car that doesn't mind me checking it out?

Thanks!

Rukman, care to share your thoughts on the Spec II and spec III setup? I'm in the same situation as you are right now, and I'm leaning towards the clutchmasters setup since Spec stage II is limited to the power it can hold and I hear the spec stage III is loud.

Thanks,
Joe

I drove Boris' car with the Spec Stage 2 and i thought it worked great. I didn't notice any downsides compared to stock, but i'm sure Boris can fill us in if there are any. It seems to be holding up so far, right boris? :)

I drove Neil's Twin-Screw Supercharged M-Coupe with the Spec Stage III. I didn't notice any noises that i would call loud or even bothersome. Stage III does "sometimes" have a slight amount of chatter upon intial take-up due to the 6-puck design. You have to watch the rev's a bit if your trying for the "smooth" take-off...requires just a little bit "extra" revs compared to stock. I was surprised the Stage 3 actually. Didn't bother me at all and i could quickly get used to it and from the passenger seat you'd be hard-pressed to know it wasn't OEM.

If go go Spec...i'm going Stage 3 with OEM flywheel....TQ rating i believe at 500 ft/lb

I believe Clutchmasters Stage 3 uses a segmented disc vs the 6 puck design of the SPEC. I'm not sure about the TQ rating though?...if price is an issue to you...$300 more as well.

I'd really like to try it out first hand....I liked the Spec stage 3 enough that i'd have no hesitation getting it. Have to have good reasons to go with the Clutchmasters without trying it out first.

Yup, clutch feels great, and actually surprized me how much it could hold considering how OE it feels. The only thing I've noticed (thanks to a forum member :mad :stickoutt ) is that if you engage the clutch at too low of an RPM the clutch will have what feels like 'vibration' to it. Similar to what you describe in a Stage 3, but I could hardly feel it. In fact, the only time _I_ feel it is if I'm already coasting to a stop light and it turns green and I put the car in 1st and start going.

You have to sacrafice some things if you want to hold the power... I think the SPEC offerings are very reasonable in terms of feel. You give up minor comforts for lots of grip!

If I may, I'll give a shameless plug to Jon Caldito of MPerformance (he's a supporting vendor). He was great and when I ordered the clutch it was delivered when he said it would. He was instrumental in helping me pick the right clutch, which is why the reason I go to him first when I need parts he carries. end of plug ;)

LOL, that little vibration probably would've never made it to the annoyance front burner. :rolleyes

I have gotten used to a couple hundred more RPM's and a little finessssss on start, so that vibration isn't a problem anymore.

Besides, what are you doing bothering with rolling starts. From your videos I thought you preffered a 3.5k rpm launch from every stop.
