Are there any in dash police scanners? I am looking to get one for my car. I know there are hand helod ones. But i want something a bit nicer.

I have a Bear Tracker scanner. Not in my current car, don't panic Teutonic Purists. It mounted under the dash and is about the size of a CB radio. I think they have updated and made it much smaller. I automatically scans all normal Police, DOT and Highway Patrol frequencies. It has a special little part that scans only ultra low wavelength repeater transmissions used by Hwy Patrol cars to let you know if you are within one mile of one. They don't even have to transmit for you to pick them up. Pretty cool.

Radio Shack has a true DIN unit in the pipeline. It does trunking etc and will be in the $400-500 price range. It is a mobile version of the Pro 96.

So i take it oyu have good results with this product? Do you use it along with a certain scanner? I am thinkig of a valentine 1/policer scanner set up. All custom install. And hiding the police scanner somewhere. Right now i am thinking where the cup holders are. And install a decoy ash tray

Yes, I had very good results with this. I used a Passport 5000, Rocky mountain Jammer, the Beartracker and on occassion a CB. You might be able to install the scanner in sunglass holder area.

I'd get the V1 first. The Beartracker is great as a back-up product. You know police are in the area, but not if radar is tracking you.

Use the link up above to Uniden for pricing. The model I bought years ago was under $200, but they don't make it anymore.

Also, if the new units are like mine, they use the AM antenna for their signal reception. When it was hooked up to my Ford trucks' antenna it degraded the AM radio reception. It would probably work best with it's own antenna.

Well the V1 is a radar detector. And the bear is just a scanner.

Go for the detector first. I have the V1 and have used a scanner with it but the V1 is still priceless.
