I seem to recall lots of people running STX and SM in SOLOII. But does anyone on here run in STS? The more I look at the local SOLOII (hour and a half away) the more fun it looks like it would be next summer.

I've filled out this work sheet on their site http://www.scca-milwaukee.org/Solo/carmodandclassification.pdf and it looks like STS is where I want to be. Give me room for the CG track school kit, new sway bars, wider wheels, chip, etc. So why STX over STS?

There's got to be more rules than I'm seeing here to make the difference. Also I don't really understand the tire stuff. In STS can run a Kuhmo MX? But r comps are ok in stock class?

I think I'm just having trouble understanding the rules. Any help would be great, or a rule book online.

Basically, STX lets you mod your car better than STS. STX allows a wider rim width (up to 8"), wider tires (up to 245 instead of 225), and you can add an LSD to a car that didn't come with one. The BMW needs the LSD !

STS is owned by the Honda Civic Si - and there's no way you can beat one with an STS BMW. STX is better for the BMW because of the above mentioned allowances which make it much quicker and more competitive.

Hmmm, the board's Insert Hyperlink feature isn't working but here's the URL to the official rules:

Car came with a factory LSD but I have a feeling I'd get dominated by the Sis like you stated. I think the general plan for next year will be to start in STS and if I'm getting badly beaten I'll pick up a set of 8" wide rims with some R comp tires.

Thanks for the link to the official rules.

That factory LSD automatically puts you in STX. Clutch-pack type LSDs are not allowed in STS so you're bumped to STX. You have a better chance of trophying in STX on street tires than you do in DSP on R-compounds, depending on how tough your local competition is.

Well then it's settled, I'm in STX. I'll try and pick up a set of used M3 wheels or something to get some wider rims. No R comps in STX either. I'll have to do some searching on fitting an 8" wide rim to see what that requires.
