I wish I could Matt. I have to see my Mom for her b-day and my brakes are in BAD shape after last weekend. Soon to be corrected by a BBK though :D

Have fun!

Wedding on Sat and on Sunday, I plan on being scared and will spend the day curled up in a ball, weeping to myself.

I'm registered, but I won't be there. :( With a little luck, I'll be reassembling my car and installing goodies.

sorry to here you guys will not be there. This is my first test since the install of the diff and ditching the axxis ult. pads. Cannot wait to see what the stop watch says!

Matt, I was thinking about coming to this event but I discovered that I need to do some work to the car before I do another event. My brake fuild and tranny oil are top on the list. I would like to change the pads too. I have Ultimates right now, however, I would like to put a better track pad on to see how much that changes things.

After riding with Jesse and Jeff Lee, I realized that I should be braking later and harder. I don't think my current pads will allow for that. :az

Yeah, that's what really did a job on my Ultimates at that PCA event (when they were smoking and Ed re-examined my pads and didn't think they could last another track day-he teched the car before and passed it.)

Did you feel that I should be braking later and harder into turn one and five, too??

I checked my pads today and they actually look to have plenty of life left on them. However, after seeing what happened to Nick, I figure it is better to be safe than sorry. That's why I am looking into a rollcage too.

Remember where I showed you where my braking point was? It was deeper in. Same with five, I braked later-after touching the apex-I braked hard and deep in the little area between that apex and my turn into the carousel.

guys, it's not too difficult...if you don't want to loose your brakes on track...check them periodically during and before an event, along with fluids and the chassis bolts and suspension mounting points. Nick handled the situation well and reduced the amount of damage he could have gotten by executing a safe off...the damage he had was a result of the gravel, not from hitting anything...no big deal, these things happen on a track...Nick was smart about it and went off straight & damage was minimal. Everyone was like "OMG this is terrible how aweful and horrible"...I simply thought "that was unfortunate, however wow, he really did a great job going off safely...things could have been MUCH worse"..

I just think that things like spinning and going off track are scaring you guys more than they need to...it's a part of running your car on track...it'll happen, not "if"...but rather "when"...and it happens to the best drivers as well as newbies. If you do this enough, you'll go off track, what matters most is what you do once it happens...if it never happens you are just not driving your car hard enough, bottom line. Heck you could hit an oil slick and it wont matter what your doing, you'll just be in for a wild ride. In 13 races this season, I went off 3 times (1 was my fault, 1 was an incident with another racecar and not my fault, and the last was to avoid T-boning a racer after he locked up and checked sideways on the fast entry to T1 at the start of a race)...one resulted in some damage, the other 2 were clean...the main thing is to remain calm and try to keep control of the situation if you can.

I was in my autotech class (I'm in highschool) and someone knew I had a bmw and they told me I should go to this "Summit Racing Event" in West Virginia. He told me its a car show and a track where you can race your car or just chill.

Is this the same thing, I've never been to any track events or anything. I've never been on a track (other than a dragstrip) and I'm only 16 can I race like everyone else there or do I have to be 18.

Thanks.

These events such as FMoW or NASA HPDE are DE's or driver's education events, not races meaning they are not timed speed contests and are done with instruction...yes, you can participate and it'll be helpful for you. You may have to be 18 though...go to NASA's website...they'll have rules there...

Absolutely right. I can't say I was happy about the whole thing, but shit happens, and it sure as hell won't stop me from going back out there.

All in all, I'm reasonably pleased with how well things turned out. I should have all the parts I need by tomorrow, and paint work should start on thursday. If I'm extraordinarily lucky, I'll be reassembling my car this weekend.

The real key on the track, IMHO, is not to panic, and to spend a lot of time on the skidpad. Going through Turn 4 sideways is a life changing experience I can tell you. :eeps:

Yeah, I agree totally. I had 2 incidents that I was able to recover from this weekend. Sat, after it rained, I drifted around turn 3. I didn't panic and I was able to recover from it.

Going into turn 5, my brakes faded and I had to go straight. I didn't panic either. I was just looking to the run that was level so that I didn't tear off my oil pan, bumper, etc.

Nick, it was a good thing that you went completely straight. I think that reduced your damages GREATLY!!

summit requires anyone on the track in a vehicle be 18, wether NASA requires it or not it wouldnt matter.

HI....my name is Matt.... and I have had an "off" at the track.... I "early" apexed turn 1 at Summit and ran out of asphalt. Once I realized I could not make the turn, I just straightened out the car and stayed off the gas and brakes, did some off roading in the mud puddles and, once the track was clear, gentley brought it back on track. The down side was that I hit a big ass mud hole and slightly bent a rim (BBS RX), plus I splashed muddy water right at track out. This made it interesting for everyone for the rest of the session :D .
