Well it was a good event, I didn't get a chance to run because my car is in the shop yet again. Hopefully next season. I rode with Richard for a run and he did pretty well for his first time. Got a 64.1 I believe :D Poke Great vid! Looked like you guys had way too much fun! Poke and Rich, I didn't get a chance to meet you guys. I was the one announcing and doing timing. I took a ride with Jed and I must say I need R-comps now!!! BTW. Adam told me that a team.Bar member found my helmet? who's got it? Thanks! I took a ride with Jed and I must say I need R-comps now!!! BTW. Adam told me that a team.Bar member found my helmet? who's got it? Thanks! Jason Jason- I have your helmet. Ummmmmm... it's a little banged up. We wanted to test the durability of it in an actual crash situation-I threw it out of the window during a session at Summit Point. By the way, you owe some guy money for damages to his Modena when your helmet hit his car. :D Let me know when you want me to bring it by or whatever. John V 10-18-2004, 11:31 AM THanks to everyone who came out to the BMW CCA autocross on Saturday. Between my frustration with having all but one of my timed runs in the rain, plus designing a course that wound up being just a bit too tight in spots I was having a stressful day, but the fun runs at the end of the day ended up making up for everything. Apologies to whoever was behind me when I did my Hoosier burnout. :D. They aren't kidding when they say that '03s don't have anything after they've died a heat-cycle death. Anyway hopefully we can find some better lots next year - you start to realize there is only so much one can do with Bowie and Kevin has done a great job taking advantage of what we have. John V John- For your first time out designing, I think you and Ken did a great job. The only thing was that one skidpad before the stopbox next to the slalom. If the timing of two cars was just right, it could be scary seeing the other car out of the corner of your eye. But other than that, it was a fun course! :buttrock Thanks again! It was funny at Chili's, we were with Kevin, James S, and Andre and toasted the passing of the torch. I wonder why they were laughing and Kevin was like "whew!" I think we'll all do a good job with it. We've got enough people to do what basically Kevin and Rafael did for 3 years. jkuper 10-18-2004, 11:38 AM THanks to everyone who came out to the BMW CCA autocross on Saturday. John V John, I think you guys did a great job with the course design. I told Ken I liked the first skidpad (I know you said maybe taking it out if you would reuse the course). I hated it because I couldn't find the right line through it, but it's good to have sections like that. Autocrossing on tires with a 420 wear index is...ummm...interesting. I loved the E30...everything felt slower (as it was), but it made it a lot easier to look ahead, which is what I know I lack bren 10-18-2004, 11:52 AM PS- How did everyone do? 2 trophies for me...gotta' love the impromtu concours victory :stickoutt I think you guys will do very well running the events. Hell you have enough experience. And if you ever need another set of hands don't hesitate to ask.... Mhyrr 10-18-2004, 12:02 PM I was planning on coming out, but didn't realize until it was too late that it was Saturday, not Sunday. Would've liked to have seen the design you guys came up with. I'll definitely be at some CCA events next year. bogdan 10-18-2004, 01:02 PM designing a course that wound up being just a bit too tight in spots I think the course was fun. :) Many of the start issues would have been fixed if it was run backwards. That way, the starter could see the whole course. :D jmho. p.s. the beauty of awd. :lol John V 10-18-2004, 01:30 PM I think the course was fun. :) Many of the start issues would have been fixed if it was run backwards. That way, the starter could see the whole course. :D jmho. p.s. the beauty of awd. :lol Yep, learned a lot about the beauty of turbo lag with Keefe's car. Never did adjust to the rain, either. I only got one dry run, and it was not pretty. 56.5 or something. Fun car, but it's no STi. Would make a bomb diggity street car though. Neil's car is cool, too. I wish I would have had a chance to drive it in the dry. I was just trying to drift it for a good portion of my runs ;) I learned a lot about designing courses as well. Backwards would not have worked because the high speed sections would have been heading in dangerous areas. The difficult part of designing for the Bowie lot is making sure people are going slow in the areas that they could lose it and hit something (curb, pole). I was happy that even with the rain there were no near-misses. The Baysox are really killing that lot. They threw up jersey barriers this summer and before this last event they put a dumpster near the shed, which makes it impossible to go around the side of the shed anymore. Definitely some things would have to change if we used that course again, but I know a lot more about what we can and cannot get away with on that lot. Now we need to find a way to reinforce those wheel dollies. If only the dumbasses moving the van hadn't done it at 15MPH I don't think they would have bent :mad :) NoSoup4U 10-18-2004, 01:58 PM If only the dumbasses moving the van hadn't done it at 15MPH I don't think they would have bent :mad :) Fine, I'll buy you a new one to replace it. It's not my fault though ... JD was yelling at me saying "FOOT TO THE FLOOR!!!" :dunno John V 10-18-2004, 02:36 PM Fine, I'll buy you a new one to replace it. It's not my fault though ... JD was yelling at me saying "FOOT TO THE FLOOR!!!" :dunno I'm not blaming you, I'm just messing around. We should be more careful... as much as that van being there sucks, it would suck worse if we damaged it (or your Jeep) or hurt someone because we were trying to do things too fast. We will find a way to fix the dolley, it is the least of my worries. John clyde325xiT 10-18-2004, 02:48 PM I thought the dolly bought it when hand pushing the rear of the van into its final resting spot. When the van stopped moving, the dolly wheel that gave way was right at the edge of a manhole cover that was a little higher than the surface. John V 10-18-2004, 02:59 PM I thought the dolly bought it when hand pushing the rear of the van into its final resting spot. When the van stopped moving, the dolly wheel that gave way was right at the edge of a manhole cover that was a little higher than the surface. Is that what happened? I assumed it happened when it was being towed, my bad. The dolleys were really cheap, like I said we need to reinforce them. Once we bend it back into shape :) AlfaEric 10-18-2004, 03:21 PM that's hilarious Bill!!! yesterday was a great event!! I took a ride with Jed and I must say I need R-comps now!!! BTW. Adam told me that a team.Bar member found my helmet? who's got it? Thanks! Jason Jason, Thanks again for letting me borrow your car. I'm in complete shock now at how fast you can drive it. Now I understand what you mean when you talk about the shifting points. Great course and a lot of fun! I had several people mention how much they liked how everything was run/organized. Even with all the heats full we still managed to have time for fun runs! I had a blast driving the Alfa for some fun runs. It reminded me why I started autocrossing in the first place. :D I just wish those tires didn't have soo much tread on them so I'd have an excuse to replace them with something better. :( ---Eric 318power 10-18-2004, 05:03 PM Eric, No problem! You can borrow my car anytime! Even for some showwwzzzzzz.. the sixteens on stock suspension are hizzottt.. My car is pretty tricky to drive, given the odd shift points, it really upsets the balance of the car. But then again I have had the thing since 1998 and have been autocrossing it for 2.5 seasons, so I've gotten used to the beast! At the level 3 autocross school coming up I think I am going to experiment with different shifting techniques. Jed, I'll call you to set up a time to meet with you, I just need my helmet before the 30th. Jason bogdan 10-18-2004, 05:05 PM Definitely some things would have to change if we used that course again, but I know a lot more about what we can and cannot get away with on that lot. I think it would be nice to move the start and timing to where the stop box was. :) That way the cars could grid facing the stadium, and you can see the whole course. Now we need to find a way to reinforce those wheel dollies. If only the dumbasses moving the van hadn't done it at 15MPH I don't think they would have bent :mad :) It held up to Bill using it as a street luge. :lol He started talking about trying to put some rollerblade wheels on it... :confused :D Jed 10-18-2004, 06:13 PM I think it would be nice to move the start and timing to where the stop box was. :) That way the cars could grid facing the stadium, and you can see the whole course. That's exactly what Kevin and James suggested too. pkelly1us 10-19-2004, 09:26 AM Bill, thanks for the ride in the taxi... What is depressing is that we were right around the same time and you were driving a wagon with 4 pasengers.. Oh well. Guess I need to work on my driving... |
