Hey guys i got snagged on the ffx pkwy just around the bend near the Ox Road exit please be careful of that area. I got pulled at 67 in a 50 just this morning.

I havent had a ticket in over 2 years maybe even 3 years. and my points are in the positive. And my previous tickets from way back in the day have already been removed from my record. How does and will this affect my record if lets say i go to defensive driving schoool and aquire 5 + points prior to my scheduled hearing for taking the class. Would it be necessary fo rme to aquire a lawyer or should i just wing this thru. Sorry to vent its just i havent got pulled over in a whiles so i kinda forgot how things work when you go to court and how much is the severity of my mph over the speed limit is.

Wow that is really close to where I work. In VA, 20 over is reckless, so at least you didn't get that. I'm not too sure what it'll be, but if you have a clean record and proactively go to driving school, I don't think it'll be TOO bad. A lawyer never hurts.

There are ALWAYS cops on 7100. Thought this was common knowledge.

After three years the POINTS will drop from your record, but there is still a record that you've gotten pulled over. I've effectively answered 'No' when I was asked if I had gotten a ticket before (I've gotten about 3 or 4 over the years) - technically I HAD gotten a ticket, but my thought was, the points still aren't on my record, so that doesn't count. YMMV as always.

Lawyer? Not unless you were drunk/reckless/a real dick to the cop. I've been to traffic court on my own 3-4 times, and always get PBJ. Just be honest - don't BS because they have heard it all. It'll probably be like $120-150 fine + court costs.

Traffic courts are filled with tons of people that just wanna pay the fine and get it over with. Most judges, as long as they're in a good mood, will just say 'Look, if you have no existing points, and don't have anything to contend, just plead guilty, get a PBJ and pay the fine'. And after all that, I've STILL seen morons argue with the judge :rolleyes

EDIT: After re-reading your post I see you also asked about defensive driving school. I believe a 17 mph over the speed limit is worth 2 points...unless you got more than that, I don't know how much a DD course would help your case. Of course, I'm not a lawyer so what the fuck do I know. Good luck.

Yeah i spoke to my friend who happened to be at the court house today and i explained my situation to him and he said the PBJ( Probation before judgment i beleive in which i cant get a ticket for a full year and if i dont then everything gets dropped and nothing is recorded.)

I always knew that there are cops on 7100 trust me. the scenario is i was in teh left lane goin with the flow of traffic(which everyone was goin 70) Once i saw the orange flashing sign right near the Ox road exit i beleive i had merged over in teh right lane to slow down in which i was already in the view of the radar in teh process of my slowing down. and boom they told me to pull over.

My other question is how do i go about asking for PBJ or is that something i have to coincidently be given based on the judge. I dont want to technically ask him just to make it sound like im trying to get out of a ticket. Now lets say i do get PBJ and lets say i get pulled over for some stupid thing like no front plates (me thinks i should put my plates back on for a whiles) can my speeding infracture get pulled back because if this?

Well I never asked for a PBJ...it all depends on the situation. You state your case depending on what the judge says, then just kinda hang on for the consequences. Generally as long as you weren't a jerkoff to the cop, weren't doing 100 mph+ and have no previous tix, you'll get a PBJ - it'll be your 'sentence'. Of course the judge could decide to throw the book at you, but I really don't think he will.

Again, I ain't a lawyer, so just consider this info coming from another BF.com member who's gotten 4 tix...I may be completely wrong in your case.

And a no front tag ticket is not a moving violation, so you won't get points. Trust me, I've gotten about 4 of them and obviously never had to go to court or do any more than pay the fine.

So i pretty much state my defense in to why i got caught and hope that because of my previous "now clean" record hopefully i can get this charge as a PBJ. Well i got 2 months to figure that out so i guess we'll see what happens. Thanks for the advice

17 over in VA is -4 points. If your previous points have been erased from your record you should be at +5 now, which is the maximum you can have. Going to a DD school voluntarily adds +5 points to your record, but since you are already at the maximum there's not much point in taking the school before you get sentenced unless you think that will impress the judge.

I have heard of a lot of people going to court early and plea bargaining with the DA. I don't know how it works in FFX county, but lots of places the DA will let you get off with no points in exchange for a guilty plea. Sometimes they will make you pay an increased fine in exchange for no points. Maybe ask the judge if he will let you off with no points if you take a dd school.

The absolute worst thing that can happen is you are found guilty of speeding. The fine in VA is $5 for every mph over you are plus court fees of $56 (or was it $57?). That comes out to $141 and 4 points off your license. Not the end of the world.

You are right i know its not the end of the world. Its just a hassle that i really dont want to go through with. I am goin to court for sure and the fee is 57 dollars. and im wondering when did they change teh mph fee from 3 dollars to 5 or has it always been 5

What's really fucked up is that in VA reckless driving and DUI carry the same charge - class 1 misdemeanor. So if our friend nicom3 were clocked going 3mph faster he would've got hit with the same thing drunk drivers get. reckless is 6 points btw and goes on your record as a criminal offense ask me how I know.

Unfuckinbelievable. I can only imagine what your inspection laws/registration costs are like :rolleyes That's right, radar detectors are illegal as well. Christ they get you coming and going don't they? :complain

Yeah Va sux monkey ball. esp FFX Cops they are sooooo nit picky on every little thing and with them there is no such thing as a warning.

I beleive their so called reason for pulling people over is originally to help protect those around the speeders to help slow them down. I more so think people who get pulled over for nothing are just a victim of revenue. Like i said i remember back in the day it used to be 3 dollars per mile that you were over. now its 5
