1997 BMW 540 6 SPEED SPORT with 80K miles on it and I was reading somewhere on her about the engine recalls.. What was the recall and how would I know that the recall was done..

Engine recall? I think that may have been for the E34 540 and 530 due to the Nikasil block problem. Never heard of a recall on the E39 540 motor. What you can do is call your dealer and ask them to pull up the records on your car and see if al the recalls have been done. Another way to tell if your car has gone in for recall work is to open the drivers door and look at the doorjamb for these circular stickers. Each sticker corresponds to a recall campaign.

Yep, no engine block recall to worry about on the E39. Can't hurt to check for other recalls, though.
