XOC 09-26-2004, 04:14 PM Borrow them from Autozone Balthazarr 09-26-2004, 04:19 PM $40 deposit returned when comp returned. Use an impact gun with these, but carefully bc they tighten/loosen very quickly leaving one side shorter than the other then you have to loosen/tighten the other side, so short bursts. If you use a ratchet wrench, np. Make sure the lock pins are fully extended into the coil inner. ayton 09-26-2004, 04:24 PM I just bought them from autozone I figured with all the hassle of a deposit I would just buy them for the same price and I will likely use them again, I have 2 cars a the moment and I usually work on them myself for the most part...what part of NY are you from? you can use mine :) mgambini 09-26-2004, 08:00 PM After using the threaded rod compressors numeroeus times, I had a very bad experience and swore off ever using them again. The last time I did struts, I rented a hefty, floor mounted compressor from Taylor Rental for $16. It allowed you to clamp in the whole strut, then a single very large threaded rod compressed the spring easily and quickly. Highly recommended. That doesn't sound exciting when it's holding the spring under pressure. RacermeX 09-27-2004, 08:56 AM When I replaced my springs and struts, I simple took both pieces to a shop and had them insert the springs. I took care of the installation on the car. SecretAznSauce 09-27-2004, 09:11 AM what everyone has said, plus an extra pair of hands will be helpful when you try to put the struts back on, the mount tens tp swival around a bit, and gets heavy fast jamin325i 09-27-2004, 03:08 PM when i asked several shops my area how much to transfer spring to new strut it was $40 each if i carried in my mac strut. what is that, brain surgery?? so, paid $10 for compress tool-threaded bolts placed on each side of spring- and did myself. however, should have got a tool which would stay on each side of spring as these 2 cheap bolts have a tendency to slip around spring toward each other during job. next time...... Solidhead 09-27-2004, 11:01 PM Yeah, I'l just buy 2 of those el cheapo tools and use it. Thanks for help all. |
