Just wanted to share my latest BMW woes and the great job Dan did for me..
I posted last week Friday that it seemed by alternator was shot. I couldn't drive more than 20 mins or so before the car would show Xmas lights on the dash and car go into Limp mode. So last week Wednesday, Dan was nice enough to come up to my garage during the day since I couldn't make the 45 min trip down to his house.
He spent the day carefully removing my s/c'er to get to the alternator located underneath and noticed that the two long screws that hold the s/c'er bracket to the alternator were stripped by the last place that did any work with my s/c'er :( They were obviously torque'ed waaayyy too tight. Dan got a fax from AA on the recommended torque and they recommended a lot less torque than Dan even thought! Dan said he could install the new alternator and put these screws in, but could not guarantee I would ever be able to get them off again! I we both agreed to call AA and have them overnight the screws and another belt to be on the safe side for the future.
Aside from AA screwing up my address for a day, the screws/belt never arrived till late Friday afternoon. Mind you I was entering my car in the NOPI show this past Sat/Sun, so the car HAD to be done by 6am Sat morning. Dan and I stayed up till 2:30am Fri night installing the alternator and also a new/better fan to cool the engine. The car was done at 2:30am and we both got a couple hrs sleep before I had to leave for the NOPI show. Dan stayed over at my house and his wife came up on Sat to pick him up/his tools from my house.
Dan's always been great to me and I could not have made this weekend's NOPI show without him!! He's always been there for me and this time he really came through with exceptional service and taking almost 3 days of his time out for me. Any other shop mostly likely I KNOW would have just put those bad screws back in and sent me on my way. I'm not saying ALL shops are bad, but in my experiences thus far, it's been a tough road for me. Dan's always looking out for his customers and again a top notch guy for thinking of these things.
And to cap it off I took 1st place in the BMW E46 class, which made it all come together nicely :)
Thanks again Dan!!! :buttrock I highly recommend his services and help.
