View Full Version : Windshield repair Scott528iM 09-20-2004, 10:05 AM Anyone have experience with a good place that can fix cracks in a windshield? Thanks. kchildre 09-20-2004, 12:45 PM OK man... which car was it??? Scott528iM 09-20-2004, 01:01 PM Small rock chip on Pams car. Bout the size of a quarter. I may just run by Glass Dr. and have them "repair" it to keep the spider effect from happening. ShaunATL 09-20-2004, 10:35 PM I just call the insurance company and let them send out whoever (Safelite I think). I wouldn't let them replace the windshield by any means but for a quick fix I think it's fine. It's also really convenient since they'll meet you at work or home. Also, it's free, at least through my insurance. kchildre 09-21-2004, 07:38 AM If it's smaller than a quarter, the "repairs" actually work really well. I'm not sure about yours, but my insurance company covers repairs for free (no deductable) because it's cheaper for them to repair it initially v/s replacing the entire windshield later on. Safelite did the work on the M3 when I replaced it's windshield immediately after I bought it. count_schemula 09-21-2004, 07:41 AM Give or take, how much are windshields? I have a Colorado car, and apparently I have very fine pits that kinda catch the sun's glare. Not that big a deal, but, maybe, one day, on a whim, I'd swap it out... Scott528iM 09-21-2004, 09:58 AM Took it to Glass Dr. this morning. $40 and they fixed it pretty well. You can still see a small hole where it was drilled but I really just wanted to keep it from spreading so I'm happy now. I think new OE windshields are upwards of 6-7 bills?! You should call your insurance company to see if you can get reimbursed. Most of them will fix it for free, meaning they will pay someone $50 to get it fixed with no cost to you or having to file a claim for a new windshield. Scott528iM 09-21-2004, 02:00 PM Eh, $40 is no big deal. My insurance rates are good, but the service blows. I wouldn't want it to count as a nuisance claim. BTW - Did you get a modem yet? Sorry we couldn't hook up. Dean 09-21-2004, 02:03 PM Eh, $40 is no big deal. My insurance rates are good, but the service blows. I wouldn't want it to count as a nuisance claim. BTW - Did you get a modem yet? Sorry we couldn't hook up. The insurance company wont see it as a claim. At least mine doesnt. It considered just good service and a perk for being a member. I have Liberty Mutual. If it was consider a claim they wouldnt pay it anyways since its a measly $40 since your deductible is probably $250 or $500. I got a new modem. |
