I know this may be a non-BMW specific type question, but since it is applicale to a lot of the racer/auto-x types (of which I am a part of) I figured I would ask here.

I am looking for a wall mount tire storgae rack to store my race tires off the floor in my garage (since garage floor space is a premium in my garage). I found one on the internet a while ago, but now that I am actively looking for one, I can't find it (figures :( ....).

Thanks in advance....!!!

you can go here for a $$ solution, the ones that would fit 2 wheels are $25/ea.

actually you can do the SAME thing from Home Depot for 1/4 the price.

Have HD cut you 2 metal pipes and thread them. Then buy 2 threaded bases. They will have 4 mounting holes each... I forget what they are used for, but I used this setup on my tire trailer before.... mount the same thing on the wall and you got yourself the Griot's setup...

Thanks for the reply. That was not the design I remember seeing (the one I found was a horizontal rack that could store 4 wheel/tires side-by-side) but it is more cost effective and looks like it will get the job done.

Thanks!

You can also get a five foot long pipe with threaded ends. Spin on flange ends that are big enough to keep the hub holes from coming off the pipe, and hang the whole thing using utility hooks into ceiling joists with some chain down to some carabiners. This gets them off the floor and ceiling high. You could also rig a pulley system onto the same bar to be able to lift them up there easily.

Option #2 (or four, or... whatever): build a shelf with 2x4 lumber that doesn't have a top. Make it about 18" deep and just wide enough to hold all four tires. The wheels should sit nicely inside the "basket" of the shelf.

I like the HD idea. If you have your heart set on the side by side set-up, there is a company called Pit Pal that makes one. We have on in our trailer.

I've made a couple of different storage systems. The first was a plate with a piece of pipe stick out of it making about a 85* angle to vertical to slide the hub of the wheel through. These are then bolted to the stud in the wall. So far I've been storing 3 wheels on each. Works great so far. They are pictured in the above left hand corner.

The 2nd is a rack made out of 2x4's which holds 6 wheels to a level (3 levels of storage). The distance between the sides is such to accomodate 15" wheels alone. It too has been working quite well.
