how hard is it to install?

Not very hard. The control units and hardware mount just under the spare tire. The wire harness included will run from the control units to the back of the new Celis taillights. You have to drill to small holes in the taillight cavity for the new Celis taillights to fit. The entire install takes most of my customers 45 mins - 1 hour.

I confused. The linked page says tht the newer e39s come with these Cellis taillights. Is that true? Does my 2001 530i have Cellis taillights? they look just like the lights in the picture, but I thought they were just regular bulbs, not LEDs.

Steve,

You probably have new celis taillights. These Hella Celis taillights are equipped with Celis prism light rods which are lit by high-performance LEDs. The control units are used to power the LEDs. The turn signals and brake lights all use convention bulbs.
