I was as school tonight and i needed to get into my trunk. Well my trunk was open and I got done what I needed to get done and closed the trunk. Well I onle have one set of keys for the car ( I just bought it and havent had a chance to get a new one )

Is there a local dealership that has the machine to cut the key in house. I know itl take a while to get the info from BMW but the sooner the better.

Any other suggestions on what I could do? I have no other key other than the main remote.

I plan on getting another remote key and just a plain key to keep at the house.

And make fun my wife did :lol :lol

Well as I guess you are aware by now no one seems to be able to pop the lock on the e46...where's a good thief when you need one :evil2
I had the same thing happen to me after riding at soap creek
The keys are Lazer Cut and not done in house.Global had quoted me a 24 hr fed ex'd key... I want to say it was like $280 :bash Fortunatly I had a spare at home and just got someone to pick me up and take me home to get it.
Good luck

Its a E39 but all the same.

ACK !!!!!! 280 for an overnighted key. I hope itl be a little better. I have class on wednesday.

So it really wouldnt matter who I went to to get the key. I live closer to Athens but though maybe that United could do them in house but I guess not.

The only way to get a key is going to be through the dealership. For us the usual turnaround is a couple of days. For a remote key it'll cost you about 145 but you can get the valet key cheaper. As long as you don't have the glovebox locked you could pop the trunk from the inside. As far as getting a locksmith into the trunk... it would bee very hard unless someone really knows what they are doing. Sorry for the bad news!!!! :(

I have a 98 E36. Are you saying if I ever lost my key it would cost $145 for a new one. Mine is a regular key with just the light on the key. What a rip off. Are you forced to get one at the stealer or can you buy one online?

I think you have to get it at the dealership with a copy of your title maybe? And they don't make them. They send your info to some place in New Jersey I think. I tried to get another key from Athens BMW but a couple days later they told me that 10 keys had already been made for my car and that if I wanted more, I would have to change all the locks. PITA

Unless some dumbass P.O. changed the ignition with a generic cylinder without telling you... Then the whole thing gets drug out for like a week as you send the title to Germany and whatnot. Right, Kip? :cool

Oh wait...that's just when it's me.

Turn around for keys is 2-3 days...at least from United. Try to get there before noon as it can help shave your wait time. NON-remote keys are only $30-ish, at least they were for my old E36 and E34. You need your title to have one ordered.

I found a lock smith that says that he can get into it with out problem. Has a special tool to do so.

Then im running to United to order a couple keys.

What a hassle.
