View Full Version : Petit Le Mans Sep.22-25
greateratlanta 09-13-2004, 04:49 PM Guys,
I was pretty sure Geordie had a thread going about this earlier but I can't seem to find it, so if there is then this can be trashed. Just wanted to see who all is going and try to organize meeting some of you guys for once (I've been a bumb about all the other meets). I am for sure gonna be there Friday night through Saturday night. I wanna see the SWC races but I think I have exams the next week that I gotta study for. Anyways I guess I will start a list and you can just add to it:
Clayton 24-25
punknamedjimmy 09-13-2004, 04:55 PM damn. i'll most likely be there one day. i was planning on coming home that weekend but i didn't realize that it was petite le mans, i made other plans. but petite le mans is da most important.
Kyle K. 09-13-2004, 06:11 PM I'd love to go but 60 bucks is steep. :az We'll see.
punknamedjimmy 09-13-2004, 06:25 PM 60 bucks? what? shit man just go to a dealership and get free tickets.
that said i need to get a ticket.
Kyle K. 09-13-2004, 06:34 PM What dealership has tickets?
greateratlanta 09-13-2004, 06:42 PM No Kidding, I'd like to know also.
Want2race 09-13-2004, 06:57 PM I'll be there in a motorhome.. Renting and splitting it amoung a few neighbors!
punknamedjimmy 09-13-2004, 06:57 PM What dealership has tickets?
dealers usually advertise that they have tickets. ask carter, he's usually in the know. and this year is sponsored by chevy so i'd guess them?

punknamedjimmy 09-13-2004, 06:59 PM I'll be there in a motorhome.. Renting and splitting it amoung a few neighbors!
is it being towed by your v12 m coupe?
Yea, I could definitely use the low down on some free tickets. I just spent $50 on some clay poker chips to make my gambling addiction a little more swank...
Seth Thomas 09-13-2004, 10:20 PM dealers usually advertise that they have tickets. ask carter, he's usually in the know. and this year is sponsored by chevy so i'd guess them?

Seth --Still need flag girls?
///M3Hellrot 09-13-2004, 11:29 PM Jimmy, you're definitely going? I need someone to go with. I doubt any of my friends around here would go and I feel bad dragging Alli to something I know she won't enjoy. Hopefully I will have my new camera by then and you can show me how to use some of the features. Yeah, I need tickets too...

Oh, and I'll definately be there. Most likely working (hopefully).
Hellrot 09-14-2004, 10:36 AM I'll be there all day Sat. Y'all want to meet up under the big tree on Spectator Hill? Or somewhere closer to the pits? Maybe on-track before the start when all the cars are lined up?
BabyM 09-14-2004, 10:41 AM Maybe on-track before the start when all the cars are lined up?
Yeah, all in the middle of stuff gettin' in the way!! :D

So uh - you just show up at this place(RaceTrac - like the cheap gas station?) and say gimmie free tickets?
I'll definitely get my ass up there hangover and all and nab me some tickets.

Yeah, the gas station. And you pretty much walk up and they hand you tickets. That's how it's worked for me in the past at car dealers and at American Pie.
Nalley Chevrolet is the $tealer giving them away, but they haven't arrived yet. I'm guessing they'll probably get them Monday. I'll keep everyone posted.:buttrock

Ahhh, catholic hs. The memories :devillook
Doctor Wha 09-15-2004, 06:16 AM Hmmmm. And to think my Mom let me join drill team in place of being the 'water girl' for the football team.
Heh! You would have been in far more "danger" (from your mom's perspective anyway) with us! There was a very good reason we called them the "drilled team!" Of course, as drum sections go, we were a notoriously wild and randy bunch. The woodwind section was a regular source of "entertainment" for us as well. One of the local drum shops sold - and I wonder if they still do - t-shirts that read "Drummers do it in rhythm."
God, sometimes I miss the '80s so...
Ahhh, catholic hs. The memories
Ah, Catholic hs. The miniskirts! :evil2
Well, my hs was the public, "secular heathen" variety, though I did live near a Catholic shcool for a year or so. I'd see the girls around the neighborhood after school, and it always seemed paradoxical to me that they were supposed to be in one of the most (allegedly) strict environments, with one of the most Draconian and puritanical views of human behavior short of the Taliban, and yet the girls' uniforms left them out-and-out eye candy! No wonder people come out of those places conflicted and generally screwed up in the head. :rolleyes
Ah well. Never mind. Don't want to hijack a thread with talk of plaid miniskirts and what makes them wiggle, do we? :nono :devillook
So where were we? Um... race cars! Yeah! Vroom vroom, and all that!
Carry on...
:)

Do tell......
and by the way where does everyone wanna meet?
Hellrot 09-20-2004, 01:34 PM I vote for 3pm under the big oak tree on Spectator Hill. That way even the stragglers can make it.
punknamedjimmy 09-20-2004, 10:28 PM works for me i think.
BabyM 09-20-2004, 10:46 PM I'll follow along. I've never been there but I'm sure the Count will know where it is!
punknamedjimmy 09-20-2004, 10:50 PM yeah.... anyone who knows RA at all knows what spectator hill is... and i think i know which tree he's talking about.
count_schemula 09-21-2004, 01:02 AM yeah.... anyone who knows RA at all knows what spectator hill is... and i think i know which tree he's talking about.
Yeah, it's that tree on that hill...
haha, inside of T12 and overlooking the straight into T1 I believe...
greateratlanta 09-21-2004, 01:12 AM Yeah, it's that tree on that hill...
haha, inside of T12 and overlooking the straight into T1 I believe...
Just before Suzuki bridge?
count_schemula 09-21-2004, 01:14 AM I'm thinking it's inside the track, and yeah, to the right of Suzuki bridge, but a little more over by the straight heading into T1.
Basically, overlooking where the race starts.
adeelpowers 09-21-2004, 01:18 AM ^^^^what happened to your old sig? That ecstacy/officer text would tear me up...kinda like your subframe.
count_schemula 09-21-2004, 01:21 AM My sig is in the shop. When it comes back out, it's gonna put down 438hp to the Flash Player.

fair enough...
I might have to skip this(plus I missed getting tickets since I was sick on Sat). :( I think I'm only going to really have the weekend to finish up alot of stuff I want to get done on the car. I need to have at least a good 2 weeks of shakedown time to find out that in a fit of brilliance I forgot to tighten *insert vital suspension/brake component here* before I get out on the track.
Be sure to snap plenty of pics.
count_schemula 09-21-2004, 01:40 AM I think it's here...

do y'all have each others' cell numbers?.....I'm predicting a small amount of pandemonium getting everyone rounded up.
punknamedjimmy 09-21-2004, 11:44 AM hahah count. damn i was about to say you are so wrong.... specator hill is looking down on to the esse's.
count_schemula 09-21-2004, 05:00 PM haha, the map even says spectator hill...
where I thought it was, there's a big tree, and it's kind of on a hill, and it's pretty wide open, but, for shame...
punknamedjimmy 09-21-2004, 05:04 PM idiot.
Experimental M3 09-21-2004, 05:29 PM Anyone wanna meet up before the race and make a grand BMW appearance? BTW, what's up with free tickets? I'm a college student people, c'mon...where's the free stuff?
Brian
bcart1991 09-21-2004, 10:18 PM Keep your pants on, man...
The dealership still hadn't received the tickets as of this afternoon. I'm calling back in the morning. Hopefully they will have arrived.
Until then, try and stay sane.:slowturn
Carter
PrinceE30 09-21-2004, 10:32 PM Seriously, post when the free tickets are up. I have a job, but even $60 is still a bit steep for most 23 year olds :)
Is anyone going to be there tomorrow or thursday for any of the practice? I'm thinking of either going into work late or leaving early to see the TC / GT practices (and get my tickets for the rest of the days as well). And I'll be there Friday for sure for part of the day to see some SWC stuff.
-Prince
bcart1991 09-21-2004, 10:56 PM Trust me, I'll let everyone know.
It's the Chevy dealers who are giving them away, they just haven't received them yet. I've pestered them for the better part of 3 days about the tickets.
They said they have most of the other paraphernalia (posters, etc.) but the tickets haven't arrived yet.
I spoke to people at Nalley Chevrolet (P'tree Ind. Blvd. I think) and Thornton Chevrolet (Thornton Rd./I-20 west) and both of them confirmed that they will be giving them away, they just don't have them yet.
So make those calls in the morning.

michaelh 09-21-2004, 11:03 PM I am coming from Knoxville to the race on Saturday morning, I would love to meet up with everyone if you get together. I'll keep an eye on the thread; ever since BMW got out and does not have a corral, I have been parking in random places.....
techno550 09-22-2004, 12:07 AM I'll be there from wednesday thru saturday. Steved should be there thurs-sat. I'll be playing with a pair of B2K-40's, so be sure to come visit the infield paddock. :)

BabyM 09-22-2004, 09:37 AM Hey Guys--
Someone told me I should bring my SCCA membership card to the race.
Anyone think it's worth going back to the house to get it? (I'm at work right now and had planned to leave from here, but if something is to be gained I'll take a few minutes and get the damned thing)
See y'all at the track!

I plan to make the traditional lemans style start to my trip. I'll start the timer at my desk and then run out to the car....
Experimental M3 09-22-2004, 10:58 AM I called around to all the Chevy dealerships in the area and only 1 of them said that they are supposed to get tickets in, but have not as of yet. The story that I have been getting is that you have to buy a vehicle to get the free tickets.
I won't be able to make it to the race until around 5pm Saturday, and at that point I don't think I would be willing to pay $45 per ticket x 2 to get in.

True...so very true.
I'd even be willing to pay a little for a couple of tickets. I just don't think it's worth paying $90 for 2 tickets halfway through the race.

actually, the 550 maranellos usually get dominated by the corvettes and the 360 modenas usually get owned by all the porsches.....they still sound the best though, especially the V12s in the 550s. mmmmmmm
punknamedjimmy 09-22-2004, 10:04 PM not when i'm driving nick... not when i'm driving.

They got beat so badly in the past that the 550's aren't even showing up this year in GTS. But there are gonna be two Murcielago's a Saleen S7R and a Viper to keep the Corvette's company. On a side note, if you check out the entry list there is something like five drivers in GT alone from Georgia.
techno550 09-22-2004, 11:22 PM What are B2K-40's? Where in the paddock will you be? :dunno
B2K-40 is a Lola. Its a P2 car.
Main paddock. (that would be the infield paddock. The one outside the front straight is the support paddock. speed touring and such will be out that way.)
Look for two bright yellow open cockpit prototypes. White trailer, White awning. Its torwards the "downhill" area of the paddock, like trowards turn 1.

this isn't from petite le mans, but the other race that happened last year, i forget what it was called. it was so awesome standing right next to my boy HANS STUCK's car.
michaelh 09-24-2004, 10:39 PM I will be there tomorrow at spectator hill overlooking the esses. I will be in a red 330ci ZHP, and will probably be set up under a tent on the top of the hill. Hopefully there will be some bimmer's there representing :cool

eat M3 09-26-2004, 05:48 PM race was great, i wish the esperante i make shit for did better but oh well its still a pretty new car. The murcialago or whatever lost 2 cylinders hald way through the race and started back firing that shiat was crazy the car sounded insane. But yeah overall good race perfect weather. I saw a few nice BMWs up there. I was in a cosmos M3 with 18s, HIDs, black grill, and alot of motor work. I love how the vettes drive together its badass ha.
punknamedjimmy 09-26-2004, 06:57 PM congrats to michael. too bad you guys couldn't get the other car ready in time.
my pics will be up soon.
